Nato on pole for race two at Aragon

Formula Renault 3.5 rookie Norman Nato took pole for race two at Aragon in a chaotic wet qualifying session on Sunday morning. The Frenchman came out on top in a session blighted by red-flag stoppages, while his DAMS team-mate and championship leader Kevin Magnussen will start from the back after he spun into the gravel in the treacherous conditions. Nato set his best time in the longest run of activity without a stoppage, initially edging Stoffel Vandoorne for pole before Magnussen’s spin brought out the red flag.
Magnussen tops Aragon FR3.5 tests

Kevin Magnussen made a strong start to the Aragon Formula Renault 3.5 weekend, topping all three test sessions at the Spanish track. After leading the way in Thursday’s additional test which was granted to teams after pre-season testing at the same venue was snowed off , Magnussen then set the pace in both wet and dry conditions in Friday’s free practice sessions.
Da Costa to be Red Bull China reserve

Antonio Felix da Costa will stand in for Sebastien Buemi as Red Bull’s Formula 1 reserve driver at this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix. The Red Bull junior, who won a Formula Renault 3.5 race at Monza last weekend, will fill in for Buemi, who is racing with Toyota in the World Endurance Championship season opener at Silverstone. Buemi has attended grands prix in the role since he lost his Toro Rosso drive at the end of the 2011 season
Da Costa wants repeat of Monza fight

Antonio Felix da Costa hopes that the frontrunners in this year’s Formula Renault 3.5 championship can have more battles like the one from the opening laps of race two at Monza last weekend. The Red Bull-backed racer scrapped for the lead with McLaren juniors Kevin Magnussen and Stoffel Vandoorne in the early laps on Sunday, with da Costa eventually coming out on top after a battle where all three took turns in the lead. The trio all agreed that the battle was something special, and da Costa hopes the frontrunners can maintain that standard of racing.

Zeta Corse completes FR3.5 line-up

The 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 grid has been completed by Zeta Corse signing Mihai Marinescu and Emmanuel Piget ahead of this weekend’s season opener at Monza. Formula 2 race winner Marinescu returns to the series full-time after making 11 starts in 2009, while ex-Formula Renault and Euro F3 Open competitor Piget, who last raced in 2010, currently has a deal for Monza only. Team boss Claudio Corradini explained that the team’s upheaval over the winter (as it took over the BVM Target entry) had proved a setback as it tried to sort its driver line-up
Da Costa sets record Barcelona pace

Red Bull junior Antonio Felix da Costa led the way on the first day of the final Formula Renault 3.5 pre-season test at Barcelona. The Arden Caterham driver edged out morning pacesetter Kevin Magnussen by less than one tenth of a second, as several cars smashed the lap record set by da Costa in last season’s finale.

New McLaren junior Stoffel Vandoorne continued his strong start to pre-season testing in Formula Renault 3.5 by topping the first day of running at Paul Ricard. The reigning Formula Renault Eurocup champion, who topped the first day at Aragon last week before the rest of that test was cancelled due to snow , knocked Red Bull protege Antonio Felix da Costa off the top of the times at the end of the day. Da Costa had led the way for much of the test, setting the pace in the wet morning session before trading blows at the head of the field with Kevin Magnussen when the track dried.

Former GP3 frontrunner Melker had a disappointing GP2 rookie campaign with Ocean last year , but did take a podium in a one-off FR3.5 outing with Lotus. Tech 1 won last year’s teams’ championship, even though its lead driver Jules Bianchi lost the drivers’ crown to Robin Frijns in a controversial final-round collision

Formula Renault Eurocup champion Stoffel Vandoorne broke Robin Frijns’s lap record on the final day of Formula Renault 3.5 testing at Aragon on Friday. Vandoorne, who succeeded FR3.5 champion Frijns as the winner of the Eurocup in Renault’s 2-litre category this year, switched from DAMS to drive the Dutchman’s title-winning car for Fortec Motorsports on the final day.

Kevin Magnussen topped Formula Renault 3.5 testing for the third time since the end of the season, as he led the way on day two of this week’s Aragon test. The McLaren junior driver improved on his time from Wednesday by half a second on Thursday morning, giving him the edge over Formula 3 convert Carlos Sainz Jr with new team AV Formula. Formula Renault 2.0 racer Norman Nato was third fastest for Tech 1, while the top five was rounded out by 2012 FR3.5 race winners Marco Sorensen and Antonio Felix da Costa.
Magnussen sets Aragon test pace

Kevin Magnussen set the pace on the first day of Formula Renault 3.5 testing at Aragon on Wednesday. The McLaren Formula 1 test driver, who finished seventh in the FR3.5 championship this year with Carlin, was back in action with DAMS for the second time this winter . Magnussen set the quickest time of the day in the final hour, as he, Italian F3 champion Riccardo Agostini and Will Stevens knocked Carlos Sainz Jr off the top of the timesheets.
