Turvey relishing sportscar chance

McLaren Formula 1 test driver Oliver Turvey is eager to establish a sportscar racing career after securing a European Le Mans Series drive with Jota alongside his F1 and GT duties. The victor will join the likes of David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti, Jenson Button, Gary Paffett and Paul di Resta on the list of winners of the prestigious award, which this year features a cash prize of £100,000 as well as the traditional McLaren Formula 1 test, plus full BRDC membership, Puma racewear for a year, and a TW Steel watch. The six contenders were assessed in Mercedes DTM, Formula 2 and McLaren GT3 machinery over two days at Silverstone last month
Button to demo F1 car in Manchester

Jenson Button will drive a McLaren Formula 1 car through the streets of Manchester later this month as part of a three-day festival in the British city. The 2009 world champion’s run will take place at 11am on Monday, August 29 from Albert square, which will also be the setting for an F1 fan zone run by team sponsor Vodafone, and through the Deansgate area. “Driving an F1 car through Manchester is going to be a unique experience for me,” Button said.
Montoya praises Raikkonen’s debut

Juan Pablo Montoya praised Kimi Raikkonen’s performance on his NASCAR debut last weekend and does not anticipate that the Finn will have much trouble quickly stepping up the stock car ladder. The Colombian followed the debut of his former McLaren Formula 1 team-mate closely, even offering advice during practice and ahead of the race – and admitting they probably talked more than they ever did during their time in F1. Before Raikkonen ran at Charlotte, Montoya had said he would not choose the mile-and-a-half venue for a start in NASCAR but following Friday’s race he said the Finn showed he could adapt quickly not only to the car and track but also to the different style of racing, despite a few brushes with the wall
DTM drops Shanghai for 2011

The DTM has dropped the Shanghai street race from its calendar for this year, meaning Hockenheim will once again host the season finale. Last year the Chinese track became the first venue other than Hockenheim to host a final round since the DTM was reborn in 2000

Mercedes: No plans to end McLaren deal

Mercedes-Benz has no plans to end its relationship with the McLaren Formula 1 team because of its planned buy-out of Brawn GP, but the German car manufacturer has said that its partnership with the Woking-based outfit will change. The Stuttgart-based car maker has agreed a three-year plan to buy into the Brawn GP team, although a final contract has not yet been signed.
