Perrinn launches customer LMP1

A British motorsport engineering consultancy has completed the design of a LMP1 prototype to the new-for-2014 rulebook with which it aims to enter the Le Mans customer market. Perrinn Limited is ready to begin building the car as soon as the first customer signs up for the project and believes it can have the first chassis up and running in four months from the first order.
Bleekemolen lands Le Mans seat

Dutch sportscar star Jeroen Bleekemolen will follow up on his victory in Nurburgring 24 Hours yesterday with a bid for class honours in the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. Bleekemolen, who won at the ‘Ring with the Black Falcon Mercedes team, has landed a last-minute drive with the Swiss Race Performance LMP2 team at Le Mans on June 22/23
Bouchut to make 20th Le Mans start

Former Le Mans 24 Hours winner Christophe Bouchut will make his 20th start in the endurance classic with the Lotus LMP2 team this year. Bouchut, who won the race with Peugeot on his debut in 1993, will line up in one of the team’s Lotus-Praga T128s alongside James Rossiter and Kevin Weeda. The Frenchman is standing in for Vitantonio Liuzzi, who is racing in the Superstars International Series at Zolder on Le Mans weekend.
TDS wins Imola ELMS round

Turvey takes another ELMS pole

Oliver Turvey maintained his 100 per cent prototype qualifying record by claiming pole position for the second round of the European Le Mans Series at Imola. The McLaren Formula 1 test and development driver, who has joined the Jota Sport Zytek LMP2 squad for this season, topped the times by more than half a second to follow up on his pole at the Silverstone season opener last month. His 1m34.343s pole lap aboard the Jota Zytek-Nissan Z11SN he shares with Simon Dolan compared with the 1m34.914s set by Mathias Beche in the TDS Racing ORECA-Nissan 03
Rossi joins Greaves for Le Mans

Caterham Formula 1 reserve driver Alexander Rossi will race a Greaves Motorsport Zytek LMP2 at the Le Mans 24 Hours in the colours of the grand prix team. The deal between the F1 team and Greaves means that the American driver, a frontrunner in GP2 this year with the Caterham Racing squad, will line up alongside three-time Le Mans class winner Tom Kimber-Smith and former American Le Mans Series LMPC champion Eric Lux in one of the two Greaves Zytek-Nissan Z11SNs.
AF Corse to contest Asian series

Pickett defeats Rebellion at Laguna

Pickett HPD duo Klaus Graf and Lucas Luhr came out on top in a race-long duel with Nick Heidfeld and Neel Jani’s Rebellion Lola-Toyota to win the four-hour American Le Mans Series event at Laguna Seca. The two cars swapped the lead both on track and in the pitlane numerous times during the race, but the crucial moment came when they made contact in the final hour.

Neel Jani gave Rebellion another American Le Mans Series pole in qualifying for Saturday’s four-hour race at Laguna Seca. Jani, who shares the Lola-Toyota with ex-Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld, kept Rebellion just out of its rivals’ reach throughout LMP1 qualifying. At times the Swiss driver was a second clear, but Dyson’s Guy Smith and Pickett’s Klaus Graf kept closing in while swapping second place
HVM Status joins ELMS for Imola

The HVM Status GP squad has bolstered the LMP2 entry for the next round of the European Le Mans Series and could compete in the remainder of the championship. Status has entered its Lola-Judd/BMW B12/80 for the Imola ELMS race on April 19 ahead of its second participation in the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. Silverstone-based Status, which linked up with former IndyCar team HVM over the winter, had planned a full World Endurance Championship campaign, but was forced to pull out in April after failing to find the necessary funding.
Krumm joins Greaves for Le Mans

O’Young returns to Le Mans

Touring car and sportscar driver Darryl O’Young is returning to the Le Mans 24 Hours after a four-year absence with the AF Corse Ferrari team. The Canadian-born Chinese driver, who is racing with the ROAL BMW team in this year’s World Touring Car Championship, has signed to drive one of AF’s GTE Am class Ferrari 458 Italias in the French enduro on June 22/23.
Toyota calls for Le Mans rules redress

Toyota will be unable to challenge Audi at next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours unless there are changes to the engine regulations in time for the race, according to the Japanese manufacturer. Technical director Pascal Vasselon explained that his team’s analysis from Spa showed that the current Balance of Performance significantly favours Audi’s turbodiesel powerplant over its own normally-aspirated petrol engine.
Toyota sure Le Mans win is possible

Toyota believes the form of its latest TS030 HYBRID in Saturday’s Spa 6 Hours proves it can challenge arch-rival Audi at next month’s Le Mans 24 Hours. The 2013-spec TS030, which was making its debut in the second round of the World Endurance Championship in Belgium, led the race and ran ahead of the new long-tail R18 e-tron quattro Audi before retiring with drive-train issues. Toyota had been optimistic of a victory push at Spa after its 2012-spec cars were outmatched in the WEC Silverstone opener.
Audi earns Spa WEC podium sweep

Andre Lotterer, Marcel Fassler and Benoit Treluyer led home an Audi one-two-three victory at the Spa round of the World Endurance Championship. The winning trio and the reigning world champions had to fight back from two early setbacks, but they had the pace to overcome both two sets of team-mates and the challenge from Toyota to claim victory by over a minute ahead of Loic Duval, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. The #1 Audi R18 e-tron quattro, which had won pole in the hands of Lotterer and Fassler, lost time at the start when Lotterer went wide at the first corner and lost out to both his sister cars and the latest Toyota TS030 HYBRID driven by Nicolas Lapierre

The Greaves Zytek LMP2 squad has withdrawn from today’s Spa round of the World Endurance Championship. The British team’s Zytek-Nissan Z11SN sustained chassis damage in a crash during qualifying on Friday evening and could not be repaired in time for this afternoon’s six-hour race
Audi dominates Spa WEC qualifying

Audi drivers Marcel Fassler and Andre Lotterer claimed pole position for the second round of the World Endurance Championship at Spa. The duo emerged from the 30-minute qualifying session on Friday evening with the fastest four-lap average, which was three tenths quicker than that of the sister R18 e-tron quattro driven by Lucas di Grassi and Marc Gene. The pole winning car, one of two high-downforce specification R18s in the race, was initially second in the times after the first runs by Fassler and di Grassi, which were interrupted by a brief red-flag period
WEC qualifying system tweaked

The controversial aggregate qualifying system introduced for this year’s World Endurance Championship has been tweaked with immediate effect. The principles of the system, by which the grid is determined by the average time of four laps set by two drivers in each car, remain intact, but the length of the sessions has been increased. The length of the two sessions, one for the LMP1 and LMP2 and one for GTE Pro and Am, has been increased by five minutes.
Moreau targets 2014 return to action

French sportscar racer Guillaume Moreau has targeted a return to the race track in 2014 in the wake of his back-breaking accident at last year’s Le Mans Test Day. Moreau, who is back at a race meeting for the first time at this weekend’s Spa World Endurance Championship round, is still undergoing rehabilitation for the injuries sustained aboard his OAK Pescarolo-Judd 01 LMP1 prototype in June 2012
