Auto GP race-winner Sergey Sirotkin will race for ISR in Formula Renault 3.5 next year. The Russian teenager, who finished third in Auto GP and fifth in Italian Formula 3 in 2012, is the Czech team’s first signing for next season.

Alexander Rossi will get his first taste of Formula 1 machinery on a grand prix weekend in Spain next week, with Caterham handing him a run in first free practice at Barcelona. The American, who last drove for the Hingham-based team at the young driver test at Yas Marina last year, will stand in for Heikki Kovalainen.

Kourosh Khani has been confirmed as the latest driver to move to the Formula 2 Championship this year. The 22-year-old Iranian driver graduates from the Formula Renault BARC Championship where he finished fourth in 2011, recording one win and three podiums. Khani tested F2 machinery for the first time at Silverstone over the winter, finishing seventh quickest out of 18 drivers

Jean-Eric Vergne says he is not putting any pressure on himself ahead of his grand prix debut in Australia this weekend. The Frenchman, the 2010 British F3 champion, is making his race debut in Formula 1 machinery in Melbourne after having secured a deal with the Toro Rosso team. Rio Haryanto will join Max Chilton in the Carlin GP2 line-up this year, as the team also starts a new partnership with the Marussia Formula 1 squad. Indonesian 19-year-old Haryanto raced for the Marussia-linked Manor squad in GP3 for the past two years, winning three races, and made his GP2 debut with DAMS in last year’s non-championship Abu Dhabi event

Jean-Eric Vergne says he instantly felt comfortable in Toro Rosso’s STR7, which he is confident will give the squad a good base for the forthcoming season. Although the Frenchman has little race experience in Formula 1 he has tested several times for both Toro Rosso and Red Bull – including a three-day stint for the championship-winning team in last year’s Abu Dhabi young driver tests. He says that experience has bolstered his conviction that the team has a strong starting point with their 2012 design.

The American, who had made his F1 debut with BMW Sauber in 2009 during testing, will also be racing in the Abu Dhabi GP2 event with Caterham Team AirAsia. Rossi took third place in this year’s Formula Renault 3.5 series, also becoming the top rookie with two victories and six podiums

HRT driver Daniel Ricciardo is hoping that the Japanese Grand Prix will be the first weekend when he combines a perfect qualifying and race performance. The Australian has made a good start to his grand prix career, but believes that he has yet to realise his full potential after being thrown into the Spanish team with no experience of the car at Silverstone in July.

Yamaha’s new factory MotoGP signing Ben Spies says he wants to learn as much as possible from his world champion team-mate Jorge Lorenzo and is keen to work closely with the Spaniard. There was little collaboration between Lorenzo and his former team-mate Valentino Rossi, but Spies said he had no qualms about seeking assistance from the 2010 title-winner.
