Marquez claims Qatar 125cc pole
April 10th, 2010
Marc Marquez took the first pole of the 125cc season at Losail this evening, leading an all-Spanish front row. Tuenti Derbi’s Pol Espargaro had been on top for much of the session, but was pushed back to fourth late on.
Lorenzo rules out fighting for win
April 9th, 2010
Jorge Lorenzo has insisted that third place remains the absolute maximum he expects from the Qatar Grand Prix despite getting up to second in Friday practice. The Yamaha rider is still recovering from a hand injury sustained during winter training, and has always maintained that he will happy to leave Losail with a few points. But that didn’t stop him taking second behind Casey Stoner – and ahead of team-mate Valentino Rossi – in opening practice.
Riders content with 11pm Qatar start
April 9th, 2010
Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden say the moisture issues that caused several accidents in the final test at Losail do not appear to be a problem for this weekend’s race, and that there should not be any need to change the start time of Sunday’s MotoGP season-opening Qatar Grand Prix. Several riders had called for the race to be brought forward from its scheduled 11pm local time start following a string of crashes at Turn 2 in testing, amid suspicions that moisture was forming on the track surface at that spot as temperatures dropped heading into the night. But after a trouble-free practice hour, Rossi expects the race to run to its planned timetable.
Stoner dominates Friday practice
April 9th, 2010
Casey Stoner proved unstoppable in the opening practice session of the 2010 MotoGP season under the floodlights at Losail. Ducati rider Stoner has won the last three Qatar Grands Prix and was quickest in the final pre-season test of the winter at the track last month. He only allowed arch-rival Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) a brief moment of glory at the start of this evening’s session, and then beat Rossi’s early benchmark by 0.6 seconds 12 minutes into practice.
Rossi positive over Yamaha form
April 9th, 2010
Valentino Rossi says he is positive of a strong start to the season after an encouraging winter of testing for Yamaha. The nine-time world champion kicks off his title defence in Qatar this weekend, and is confident his team has done its homework during the winter and that his bike will be competitive from the start. Rossi had a difficult time at Losail last year and was unable to match the pace of Ducati rival Casey Stoner.
Dorna open to moving Qatar Grand Prix start time
April 7th, 2010
Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta says a final decision on the start time of the Qatar Grand Prix will not be taken until conditions at the Losail track have been assessed. A series of accidents in quick succession at Turn 2 during the last test raised fears that moisture might be coming through the track surface at night. Valentino Rossi and Loris Capirossi led calls for the race to be moved forward from its scheduled 11pm local time start to alleviate the problem, and Ezpeleta acknowledged this was a possibility.
MotoGP Riders call for earlier Qatar race start
March 21st, 2010
Leading MotoGP riders are calling for the start time of the season opener in Qatar to be brought forward for safety reasons after several crashes in testing this week. The Losail event is scheduled to run at 11pm local time, but Casey Stoner, who was one of those to fall at Turn 2 along with his Ducati team-mate Nicky Hayden and Tech 3 Yamaha’s Colin Edwards and Ben Spies, thinks track conditions at that time of night are dangerous.
Casey Stoner: Ducati now in better shape
March 20th, 2010
Casey Stoner believes Ducati ended winter testing in much better shape than it had been at the start of the pre-season build-up in Malaysia last month. The Australian finally halted Valentino Rossi’s run of fastest times in testing when he set the pace at Losail in the last session of the winter on Friday night.
Pedrosa struggles as Dovizioso stars
March 20th, 2010
The factory Honda riders ended the final week of pre-season MotoGP testing in contrasting situations, as Andrea Dovizioso revelled in the team’s recent progress but his team-mate Dani Pedrosa continued to struggle. Pedrosa has been unhappy with the new bike’s handling for most of testing, and was only 13th in Friday night’s Losail session. But Dovizioso was much happier and took third place behind Ducati’s Casey Stoner and Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi – lapping a second faster than Pedrosa
Rossi buoyed by Qatar test pace
March 20th, 2010
Valentino Rossi said that being on the pace at traditional Ducati and Casey Stoner stronghold Losail this week made him even more confident for the 2010 MotoGP season. The reigning champion was fastest on Thursday in Qatar – where Stoner has won for the past three years – and although he was half a second behind the Ducati on Friday evening, on combined times his day one benchmark remained only a tenth of a second down on Stoner’s best of the week.

February 26th, 2010
Valentino Rossi says he heads for Qatar full of optimism and thrilled with his 2010 bike after his commanding performance in MotoGP pre-season testing so far.

February 17th, 2010
Jorge Lorenzo could yet miss the final pre-season test in Qatar as well as next week’s Sepang sessions due to his hand injury. The Yamaha rider suffered a fracture in his right hand and a displaced thumb when he fell while training on a motocross bike last Thursday
