Jani puts Rebellion on Long Beach pole

Neel Jani claimed another American Le Mans Series pole position for Rebellion with a dominant performance at Long Beach. The Swiss driver, whose team-mate Nick Heidfeld had topped the practice session, was the only driver to dip below the 1m13s barrier; his best time a 1m12.600s. That put him almost seven tenths clear of Guy Smith’s Dyson Racing Lola, which hit the tyre wall at Turn 8 at the end of the session
Luhr joins Jota for Le Mans 24 Hours

Former GT1 world champion Lucas Luhr has joined Jota Sport for the Le Mans 24 Hours. The 33-year-old German will partner Oliver Turvey and Simon Dolan in the team’s LMP2 Zytek-Nissan.

Lucas Luhr gave Pickett Racing its fourth straight American Le Mans Series pole position by dominating qualifying on the streets of Baltimore. The German, who shares the team’s LMP1 HPD with his countryman Klaus Graf, set three separate laps that would have been good enough for pole; his best coming in 1m25.174s.

Allan McNish and Lucas Luhr will head an all-star line-up for Starworks Motorsport at the Daytona 24 Hours later this month. The pair will share one of the team’s Riley-Ford Daytona Prototypes along with Ryan Dalziel, who won the race in 2010, plus Venezuelans Enzo Potolicchio and Alex Popow.

Turner and Mucke pull out of decider

The Young Driver Aston Martin team has been forced to withdraw title contenders Stefan Mucke and Darren Turner’s DB9 from the remainder of this weekend’s FIA GT1 World Championship final at San Luis. The car sustained extensive chassis damage when Mucke crashed in Friday’s second practice session. Repairs were judged impossible within the time constraints ahead of this weekend’s championship final.
#38 Lamborghini put to back of grid

Nissan drivers Lucas Luhr and Michael Krumm took first blood at Paul Ricard by winning the qualifying race for the latest round of the GT1 World Championship. The German duo took a clear victory in their JRM-run machine after moving to the front during the pitstop sequence. Luhr trailed his team-mate Peter Dumbreck through the first half of the race, but a quicker stop for the second-placed car reversed the positions.

The All-Inkl Lamborghinis set the pace in qualifying for the GT1 World Championship round at Navarra in Spain. Markus Winkelhock’s 1m36.579s lap at the end of Q3 in the #38 Lamborghini he shares with Marc Basseng gave the pair pole by just 0.004 seconds over their team-mates Dominik Schwager and Nicky Pastorelli.
