Raikkonen: no surprise to be second
May 21st, 2013
Kimi Raikkonen sees no reason to be surprised at his excellent start to the 2013 Formula 1 campaign. The Finn triumphed in this year’s Australian opener and has finished runner-up in every other grand prix bar Malaysia, where he came home seventh
GP Predictor players tip Alonso
May 11th, 2013
Fernando Alonso is the overwhelming favourite to win the Spanish Grand Prix, according to players of the Castrol EDGE Grand Prix predictor. The Chinese Grand Prix winner is fourth in the standings following his early retirement in Malaysia and DRS issues last time out in Bahrain.
Raikkonen: ruling out title ‘stupid’
May 10th, 2013
Kimi Raikkonen says Lotus would be ‘stupid’ not to believe it is knuckling down for a world championship fight this year. The Finn is just ten points adrift of points leader Sebastian Vettel after the first four races of the year, and its car has proved to be a step forward on last year’s challenger. Although there is still a view that Red Bull has the out-and-out fastest car, Raikkonen says there is absolutely no reason for Lotus not to set its sights on glory at the end of the campaign.
Webber aims to capitalise on ‘form’ GPs
May 9th, 2013
Mark Webber is confident that the upcoming run of ‘form’ races will allow him to get back into the Formula 1 world championship hunt. The Australian is already 45 points behind standings-leading team-mate Sebastian Vettel after claiming only one podium finish in the opening four races of the season. But Webber has won grands prix at five of the six circuits visited by F1 between now and the August break, with Montreal the only venue he has yet to triumph at.
Mercedes expects boost from tyre tweak
May 9th, 2013
Mercedes duo Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton believe their chances of a good result in the Spanish Grand Prix have been boosted by the change in the hard compound tyre . Although Mercedes struggled in Bahrain with overheating rear tyres, both drivers think that cooler European weather and moving the hard Pirelli’s operating window in line with the medium will help them. “The [new hard] tyre is closer to the operating window of the medium,” explained Rosberg
Spanish GP set to shape F1′s next phase
May 8th, 2013
Formula 1 bursts back into action at the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend for the start of what will be a crucial phase of the world championship battle. Although it is Red Bull that leads the way in the constructors’ standings, and Sebastian Vettel holds the advantage in the drivers’ rankings, the title fight remains finely poised
Lancaster returns to GP2 with Hilmer
May 8th, 2013
Jon Lancaster will return to GP2 with the Hilmer team at Barcelona this weekend. The 24-year-old Briton last competed in the series with Ocean in Malaysia last season. He will drive the #23 car occupied by Pal Varhaug in the opening rounds.
Ferrari: stronger qualifying a priority
April 26th, 2013
Ferrari has singled out improved qualifying pace as a ‘priority’ as it bids to make up lost ground in the championship battle. Although the new F138 has proved to have strong race pace, which helped Fernando Alonso triumph in China , the team has not been able to deliver a pole position so far this season. Ferrari’s deputy chief designer Simone Resta thinks that it needs to do much better on Saturdays, especially because it is becoming increasingly clear that starting near the front gives drivers a better opportunity to run in clear air and look after their tyres
Hulkenberg still sure Sauber move wise
April 24th, 2013
Nico Hulkenberg is still convinced that Sauber’s 2013 car has the potential to be a regular top-10 runner and that his switch into the squad has not been futile. The German admitted at the end of last year that moving from Force India to the Swiss team had not been an easy choice , saying he had been swung by Sauber being “very strong for podiums” in the early stages of 2012.
Mercedes not panicked by Bahrain woes
April 24th, 2013
Mercedes’ difficult Bahrain Grand Prix is not a sign that its 2013 season is on the slide, insists team boss Ross Brawn. After podium finishes for Lewis Hamilton in Malaysia and China, Brawn declared that Bahrain would be an acid test for Mercedes given that it had previously struggled at the track. Although Nico Rosberg took a surprise pole position, he tumbled to ninth in the race, while Hamilton could only get up to fifth having been off the pace in the early laps .
Pirelli meeting won’t bring big changes
April 23rd, 2013
Pirelli has told Formula 1 teams that it is unlikely to make any major changes to the tyres for the remainder of this season, ahead of a meeting in Milan on Tuesday to discuss the situation .
Q and A: McLaren on driver rivalry
April 22nd, 2013
In a year when rivalry between team-mates has hit new heights – following issues at Red Bull in Malaysia and Force India in Australia and China – it was McLaren’s turn in Bahrain to find itself trying to deal with a frenetic fight between its two drivers. As Jenson Button and Sergio Perez battled furiously with each other – banging wheels and making contact with each other – the team knew it was in a difficult situation in wondering whether it needed to intervene. While emotions ran high on Sunday, both in terms of radio communication and post-race television interviews, the situation calmed down in the hours after the race.
Ferrari not dejected about title hopes
April 22nd, 2013
Ferrari insists it is not despondent about its championship situation, after another operational error cost Fernando Alonso in Bahrain.

You’re laughing and I haven’t asked you a question already! Sebastian VETTEL: No, it’s good to see you. First of all, thank you very much, fantastic race.
Di Resta not downbeat over podium loss
April 21st, 2013
Paul di Resta refused to be too downbeat despite being denied what would have been his first Formula 1 podium just six laps from the finish of the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Briton’s two-stop strategy, married to a third-row starting berth, meant he was a permanent fixture at the front of the race, even leading for three laps.
Rosberg: tough start not hurting morale
April 19th, 2013
Nico Rosberg insists that he is not getting disheartened by his early season fortunes, even though he has slipped well behind team-mate Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver has retired from two of the first three races of the 2013 Formula 1 campaign, and was disappointed after Malaysia when he was given an order to hold position in the closing stages. Despite the situation, which has left him 28 points behind Hamilton in the standings, Rosberg says the fact his Mercedes is so competitive is more than adequate compensation.
Alonso: Ferrari not benchmark yet
April 18th, 2013
Fernando Alonso insists Ferrari does not have the fastest car in the field despite his commanding victory in the Chinese Grand Prix. The Spaniard took his first win of the 2013 Formula 1 season – and the first since last year’s German Grand Prix – with an emphatic drive from third on the grid last weekend
Kovalainen hopes for F1 race return
April 18th, 2013
Heikki Kovalainen is confident that his return to Formula 1 as Caterham’s reserve driver can act as a platform for him to regain a race seat in the future. While the Finn ruled out any possibility of him replacing either Giedo van der Garde or Charles Pic, whose positions with the team are not under threat, he is hopeful that mileage in the car will boost his chances of a comeback. “There are no plans to race for the moment,” said Kovalainen when asked if this could lead to a full-time race return in the future
Sauber not expecting quick turnaround
April 17th, 2013
Sauber believes it still has a lot to do to get on top of the struggles it has had with its 2013 car so far this season. The Hinwil-based outfit has struggled with the back end of its car since the start of the campaign, and it introduced a new rear wing and aerodynamic tweaks in China last weekend. Although they helped Nico Hulkenberg lead the race early on from world champion Sebastian Vettel, he eventually slipped down the order to finish 10th
Ricciardo aims to build on China result
April 15th, 2013
Daniel Ricciardo believes that he must use his career-best seventh-place in the Chinese Grand Prix as a foundation for more consistent results. The Scuderia Toro Rosso driver enjoyed the best weekend of his grand prix career in China, at a time when there is speculation about Mark Webber’s Red Bull future beyond the end of this season.
