Honda hails ‘miraculous’ result

Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro hailed as a ‘miracle’ Honda’s 1-2-3 in World Touring Car qualifying at the Slovakia Ring. Significant damage in the previous round at Marrakech meant the JAS-run team had to prepare an entirely new chassis for Monteiro and make substantial fixes to Tarquini’s. Honda has also had to contend with a litany of issues on the Zengo-run car of Norbert Michelisz, including an exhaust fire during the opening practice in Slovakia
Huff amazed by Munnich’s progress

Rob Huff believes the progress and form of his new squad Munnich Motorsport is already raising eyebrows along the World Touring Car pitlane. The defending champion confirmed his shock switch to SEAT machinery less than one month before the season kicked off at Monza. His car was only completely finished four days before the Italian opener
Kozlovskiy replaces Dudukalo at Lada

Lada has confirmed that Mikhail Kozlovskiy will replace Aleksei Dudukalo in its World Touring Car outfit from the second round of 2013 at Marrakech, as first revealed by AUTOSPORT in March. Dudukalo’s place in the team was understood to be in jeopardy following his qualifying accident at Monza

Lada has been forced to withdraw both its cars from the opening World Touring Car Championship races as a result of the damage suffered in qualifying on Saturday. Aleksei Dudukalo misjudged his braking for Monza’s first chicane and ploughed into the side of team-mate James Thompson after just two laps of Q1. Thompson was able to rejoin and even set the ninth fastest time in Q2, giving him a front-row start for the second race.
WTCC finalises 2013 calendar

The World Touring Car Championship has finalised its 2013 calendar, confirming the return of the Marrakech street race, and dropping its Spanish round. The provisional calendar issued in September featured a Spanish event at an unspecified track on 10 March. This has now been removed, and instead the series will open at Monza a fortnight later
Quaife-Hobbs seals Algarve double

Auto GP championship leader Adrian Quaife-Hobbs completed the perfect meeting at the Algarve, becoming the first driver to claim a double victory in an Auto GP meeting and setting a new record of five wins in a season. From eighth on the reversed grid, the Super Nova racer gained added satisfaction from achieving all his passing manoeuvres on-track. The GP3 graduate’s title chances were boosted further after Pal Varhaug, Quaife-Hobbs’ closest rival in the drivers’ standings, retired following an opening lap collision

Kumho to supply Auto GP tyres

Kumho has replaced Michelin as the official tyre supplier for Auto GP. The Korean rubber manufacturer will supply teams with two different compounds, with use of both the ‘prime’ and ‘option’ tyres mandatory during a dry race weekend. Unlike in Formula 1, however, there will be no stipulations on when the different compounds are used during each event.
UK round dropped from 2012 WTCC

The World Touring Car Championship will not have a round in the UK in 2012, after the FIA confirmed next season’s calendar. Donington Park, which hosted the 13th and 14th rounds of the championship last year, has been dropped from the calendar, which included new rounds in Argentina, Austria and the USA
WTCC seeks Marrakech replacement

World Touring Car Championship promoter Marcello Lotti says the series is working to find a venue to replace Marrakech as the fourth round on the 2011 calendar. The Marrakech street race was officially dropped earlier today as the local promoter had been unable to put together a funding package to continue the event for a third year
