Martin replaces Hamlin for Martinsville

Mark Martin will replace the injured Denny Hamlin at Joe Gibbs Racing for this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup round at Martinsville. Hamlin is expected to be out for six weeks while he recovers from an L1 compression fracture to his back, sustained during his last-lap collision with Joey Logano at Fontana last month.

Aston Martin sportscar ace Darren Turner says he was impressed with Bruno Senna after the Brazilian drove the Vantage GTE for the first time at the Algarve circuit in Portugal. The Brazilian announced earlier this month that he was joining Aston Martin to compete in the World Endurance Championship this year.
Duval takes Capello’s Audi role

Audi has chosen Loic Duval to take Dindo Capello’s place alongside Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish in its Le Mans 24 Hours and World Endurance Championship line-up. The long-established Kristensen/McNish/Capello trio was broken up last year when Capello decided to step down from the prototype ranks after Le Mans. Ex-Formula 1 driver Lucas di Grassi joined Kristensen and McNish, who otherwise drove as a duo in the remaining rounds, at the Interlagos WEC round
Viper confirms Le Mans return

The return of the Chrysler Viper to the Le Mans 24 Hours was confirmed in Paris on Friday when race organisers unveiled the entry list for this year’s race. Two GTE Pro class Viper GTS-Rs have been entered under by the Riley Technologies-run SRT Motorsports team, which is masterminding the US muscle car’s return to racing. The cars will be badged as SRTs after after Chrysler’s Street & Racing Tuning brand.
Waltrip re-signs Vickers and Martin

Mark Martin, Brian Vickers and Michael Waltrip will continue to share Michael Waltrip Racing’s #55 Toyota in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup. Veteran Martin, now 53 years old, will remain the lead driver of MWR’s third entry, driving 24 Cup events starting with the season-opening Daytona 500. Meanwhile co-owner Waltrip will drive the car in both Talladega events plus the Daytona race in July
BMW impressed by Martin and Leimer

Maxime Martin and Fabio Leimer both impressed BMW on their maiden DTM tests at Aragon in Spain this week. BMW motorsport director Jens Marquardt said that GT regular Martin and GP2 racewinner Leimer, neither of whom had any previous experience of the M3 machine, had both driven well during the two-day test.
McNish flies in final practice

Allan McNish ensured a practice clean sweep for Audi by setting the fastest time so far this weekend in the final Silverstone 6 Hours practice session. As was the case in second practice, it was the R18 ultra of McNish and Tom Krsitensen which went fastest, with the Briton dropping down to a 1m43.628s late on in the session. That came in the middle of a string of fastest laps for the #2 R18, although McNish’s stint was halted eight minutes from the flag when he clashed with the No.71 AF Corse Ferrari.

Veteran Mark Martin claimed his third NASCAR Sprint Cup pole position of the season in qualifying for Sunday’s race at Dover. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver, fastest in opening practice on Friday, went out last on track and beat the benchmark set by six-time Dover winner Jimmie Johnson by just five thousandths of a second. Martin not only set the pace in practice and then in qualifying, but also looked one of the most consistent drivers on long runs during the final practice on Friday afternoon, as MWR still seeks its first victory of 2012.
Mark Martin claims Richmond pole

Mark Martin claimed his second NASCAR Sprint Cup series pole position of the season in qualifying for Saturday night’s race at Richmond. The Michael Waltrip Racing veteran had been quickest in the opening practice session and backed up his speed by bumping Roush Fenway’s Carl Edwards from pole after being the last car to complete his qualifying run. Martin, 53, set a time of 21.040 seconds on his second flying lap, at an average speed of 128.327 mph around the 0.755-mile track, beating Edwards by a mere six thousandths of a second.
Exim Porsche fends off BMW for win

Ordonez joins Greaves for Le Mans

Lucas Ordonez has joined Greaves Motorsport for this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours and Le Mans Series. The 26-year-old Spaniard will drive one of Greaves’ Nissan-engined Zytek prototypes as the British squad bids to win the LMS and repeat its LMP2 class victory at Le Mans. Ordonez, a graduate of the Playstation GT Academy, will share the Zytek with Martin and Alex Brundle at Le Mans, while Tom Kimber-Smith and Brundle Jr will be his co-drivers in the LMS.
Greaves announces WEC line-up

Greaves Motorsport has announced American Le Mans Series regulars Elton Julian, Ricardo Gonzalez and Christian Zugel as the drivers for its World Endurance Championship Zytek-Nissan LMP2 programme. Marc VDS wins again in main race

Marc VDS Racing secured its first championship race win in the World GT1 series as Maxime Martin and Frederic Makowiecki held JRM Nissan duo Richard Westbrook and Peter Dumbreck at bay at Ordos in China. Martin and Makowiecki’s triumph yesterday was their thrid qualifying race win of the season, but until today they had yet to take victory in one of the main events. The duo were only headed during the pitstops today, with Martin inching away from Westbrook in the first stint and shrugging off a safety car period caused by Nicky Catsburg beaching his Sumo Power Nissan
