Teams split over radical WRC plans
May 9th, 2013
Plans for a radical overhaul of the World Rally Championship format have been met with mixed views in the service park. The potential for the powerstage element of a WRC round being used to decide who wins a rally will be discussed by the WRC Commission later this month. Volkswagen team principal Jost Capito backs the plan and says it could give the WRC wider appeal
VW resists drivers’ push for upgrades
May 8th, 2013
Volkswagen team principal Jost Capito says he will not be pressured by his drivers into delivering upgrades to the Polo R WRC before they are ready. The Polo suffered further rear differential and handbrake issues on last week’s Rally Argentina. A revised specification of handbrake operation – hydraulic instead of pneumatic – was running on Andreas Mikkelsen’s third car, but it will not be included on the points-scoring Polos until it is absolutely ready
Loeb wraps up Argentina victory
May 4th, 2013
Sebastien Loeb clinched his eighth Rally Argentina victory with an ultimately dominant performance on what is planned to be his penultimate World Rally Championship appearance. Making the third of just four scheduled WRC starts this year, the partially-retired Loeb feared he would be too rusty to match the dominant Sebastien Ogier, who initially pulled away. The two Frenchmen engaged in an intense battle, with Loeb beginning to claw back time on Ogier before the Volkswagen driver made a mistake on Friday morning and fell to third
Loeb takes secure lead into final day
May 3rd, 2013
Sebastien Loeb will start the final day of Rally Argentina with a 39.8-second lead over Sebastien Ogier. A mistake on SS7 and puncture on SS8 left Ogier half a minute adrift of Loeb and convinced him to settle for second place . Ogier’s Volkswagen outpaced Loeb’s Citroen by half a second in their head-to-head on the evening superspecial that closed Friday’s action, but that made scant impact on the overall standings
Ogier pulls away in Argentina
May 2nd, 2013
Sebastien Ogier stretched his Rally Argentina lead to 16.3 seconds over Sebastien Loeb by the end of Thursday’s leg.

Latvala elects to run last in Argentina
May 1st, 2013
Jari-Matti Latvala has gambled on the weather staying dry, despite the threat of rain, on tomorrow’s opening leg of Rally Argentina. Latvala elected to run last on the road of the World Rally Cars in Villa Carlos Paz this afternoon, with only Qatar M-Sport’s Evgeny Novikov bucking the trend – the Russian star leads the crews away from first on the road
Latvala fastest in Argentina qualifying
May 1st, 2013
Volkswagen driver Jari-Matti Latvala set fastest time at this morning’s Rally Argentina qualifying stage. Latvala was three hundredths of a second quicker than returning world champion Sebastien Loeb across the 3.75-mile stage just outside Villa Carlos Paz
Sordo sure of Argentina victory push
April 24th, 2013
Dani Sordo has no doubt that he will be a victory contender from the outset when the World Rally Championship resumes in Argentina next month, following his breakthrough Portugal performance. Although Sordo crashed out on day two in Portugal, the accident came when he was right on dominant points leader Sebastien Ogier’s tail in the lead battle. Citroen had been blown away by Ogier and Volkswagen in Mexico in March, but Sordo and team-mate Mikko Hirvonen made significant progress at a subsequent test
Ogier wraps up third straight WRC win
April 14th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier wrapped up his third straight World Rally Championship victory with an assured, and yet sometimes fraught, performance in Portugal. The Frenchman had to contend with charges from Mads Ostberg and Dani Sordo over the first two days, and then survived a technical scare as a slipping clutch threatened his lead on Sunday morning.
Ogier charges clear in Portugal
April 13th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier put the rest of the field over half a minute behind by the end of day two of the Rally of Portugal. Despite comfortably leading the event following mistakes by main opposition Mads Ostberg and Dani Sordo , Ogier had no qualms about continuing to push, and was fastest on all three Saturday afternoon stages. That put the Frenchman 34 seconds clear of Volkswagen team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala, who lost a small amount of time with a puncture late on the final stage.
Ogier leads into Saturday in Portugal
April 12th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier extended his lead over Dani Sordo to 4.4 seconds after finishing second-fastest on the superspecial that closed Friday’s Rally Portugal running. The Volkswagen driver found two seconds on his Citroen rival over the 3.27 kilometre Lisboa stage.

April 12th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier benefited from Mads Ostberg’s crash and then held off a charging Dani Sordo to lead Rally Portugal after SS4. Ostberg had grabbed the lead from Ogier after SS2 but then rolled 13 kilometres into the following stage
Ostberg crashes from Portugal lead
April 12th, 2013
Mads Ostberg has crashed out from the lead of Rally Portugal on SS3. The M-Sport Ford driver had edged 3.9s clear of the field after stage two, Ourique, and was then among the fastest drivers through the first three splits of stage three. Thirteen kilometres in, however, he rolled his Fiesta after pushing too hard through a left-hander.
Ostberg grabs early lead from Ogier
April 12th, 2013
Mads Ostberg grabbed the Rally of Portugal lead from Sebastien Ogier at the end of stage two on Friday morning. Ogier had already looked capable of delivering a third straight dominant win when he came through the opening Mu stage four seconds clear of nearest rival Ostberg
Sordo picks final starting spot
April 11th, 2013
Citroen driver Dani Sordo has elected to run at the back of the pack through Friday’s opening day of Rally of Portugal, despite the potential for rain on the Algarve.
Sordo fastest in Portugal qualifying
April 11th, 2013
Dani Sordo set the fastest time on the qualifying stage for the Rally of Portugal, with World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Ogier in second place. Citroen’s Spanish star built on his Fafe Rally Sprint victory last Saturday with scratch time at the three-mile stage close to the rally’s Faro base.
Latvala ready to play supporting role
March 13th, 2013
Jari-Matti Latvala has already prepared himself to play a supporting role to Volkswagen team-mate Sebastien Ogier’s World Rally Championship bid this season. The Finn has struggled to find form early in his Volkswagen career, while Ogier has hit the ground running since his return to a World Rally Car. The Frenchman leads the WRC standings by 31 points and leads Latvala by 59 points, having won two of the three rounds so far
Ogier secures Mexico victory
March 10th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier completed his domination of Rally Mexico as he wrapped up victory and a maximum score on Sunday’s final loop of stages. Ogier had a scare after the morning’s opening Guanajuatito stage when he had to spend 20 minutes fixing a sensor issue on his Volkswagen.
