Muller wins truncated first race

Yvan Muller claimed his fourth win of 2013 in a truncated first World Touring Car race at Moscow Raceway. The Frenchman had to deal with heavy race-long pressure from the ROAL BMW of Tom Coronel and also a lengthy stoppage caused by a heavy crash as the field hit Turn 1 for the first time. Charles Ng, who had started a career-best ninth, got loose on the crest and was tagged by Freddy Barth, who in turn was being pushed by Stefano D’Aste

Huff claims first win of 2013 season

Rob Huff claimed the first victory of his World Touring Car title defence in a safety car-hit Hungaroring finale. A massive crash for Gabriele Tarquini, whose Honda Civic was sent spearing into the barriers on the outside of Turn 3 on the opening lap, brought out a four-lap caution period. Tarquini was able to walk away from his crash, but was subsequently put in a neck brace and then taken to hospital for checks

Yvan Muller held off a late surge from home favourite Norbert Michelisz to claim victory in the opening World Touring Car race at the Hungaroring. The Frenchman protected his pole position advantage away from the start and seemed set to cruise to a third win as he gradually eased away from the field over the opening six laps.

Tom Coronel took BMW’s first World Touring Car win of the season with an assured drive in the Slovakia Ring finale. The Dutchman, starting from pole on the reversed grid, preserved his advantage away from the line and quickly distanced himself from what became a massive fight for second.

Gabriele Tarquini delivered the first victory for Honda’s new World Touring Car project in Slovakia. Team-mate Tiago Monteiro followed him home in second, while Norbert Michelisz ensured a podium lockout for the Japanese marque as he held off Yvan Muller to finish third. Tarquini converted pole position into an early lead and gradually eased away from the field, his cause helped by the fact Monteiro, Michelisz and Muller spent much of the race within one second of each other

The Frenchman, once again in an RML-run Chevrolet Cruze, had dominated much of the session but was knocked from the top spot when Tiago Monteiro went clear with two minutes to run.

Huff gets Munnich SEAT for 2013

Rob Huff will make a shock switch to SEAT machinery this year and defend his World Touring Car Championship title with series newcomer Munnich Motorsport. The 33-year-old won last year’s crown with the RML-run factory Chevrolet squad, but was left with an uncertain future after the US manufacturer withdrew from the championship at the end of 2012. The Munnich deal was made possible by Markus Winkelhock’s decision to step down from WTCC driving duties to focus on his Audi commitments in GT racing.

Rob Huff took another step towards securing his maiden World Touring Car Championship drivers’ crown with a fourth consecutive pole position at Macau. The Briton, fastest in both qualifying sessions, eclipsed reigning world champion Yvan Muller by 0.722s with a new lap record of 2m29.422s “The guys at Chevrolet have done an incredible job over the last eight years,” said Huff, “and to finish it off with a fourth pole position at Macau, a circuit that is one of my favourites, is something I am really happy about.

Rob Huff repeated his morning form to set the pace in the final World Touring Car Championship practice session ahead of Macau qualifying on Friday afternoon. The Briton’s lap of 2m31.061s was 0.274 seconds faster than championship outsider and RML Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller. The three remaining drivers in contention for the 2012 drivers’ crown occupied the top three positions in free practice two, as Alain Menu took third spot.

Menu takes routine Suzuka win

Alain Menu converted pole position to his fourth World Touring Car Championship win of the season in round 19 on the truncated Suzuka East circuit. The Swiss racer’s score of 30 points towards his recovery in the drivers’ standings was offset by team-mate and championship leader Yvan Muller finishing second ahead of the third RML Chevrolet of Rob Huff. There was light contact in the fight for second at Turn 1 when Huff attempted to pass Muller.
Menu claims pole as Chevy seals title

Alain Menu helped Chevrolet seal the 2012 World Touring Car Championship constructors’ title by taking pole position at Suzuka. The Swiss racer was fastest in both practice sessions and repeated his 2011 pole around the short East layout. Chevrolets will occupy the first two rows for Sunday’s opening race.
