Teams split over radical WRC plans
May 9th, 2013
Plans for a radical overhaul of the World Rally Championship format have been met with mixed views in the service park. The potential for the powerstage element of a WRC round being used to decide who wins a rally will be discussed by the WRC Commission later this month. Volkswagen team principal Jost Capito backs the plan and says it could give the WRC wider appeal
Loeb wraps up Argentina victory
May 4th, 2013
Sebastien Loeb clinched his eighth Rally Argentina victory with an ultimately dominant performance on what is planned to be his penultimate World Rally Championship appearance. Making the third of just four scheduled WRC starts this year, the partially-retired Loeb feared he would be too rusty to match the dominant Sebastien Ogier, who initially pulled away. The two Frenchmen engaged in an intense battle, with Loeb beginning to claw back time on Ogier before the Volkswagen driver made a mistake on Friday morning and fell to third
Loeb cruising towards Argentina win
May 4th, 2013
Sebastien Loeb is cruising towards an eighth Rally Argentina victory with Sebastien Ogier having backed right off. The gap between Loeb’s Citroen and Ogier’s Volkswagen is now up to 1m06.9s with just two stages to go
Loeb takes secure lead into final day
May 3rd, 2013
Sebastien Loeb will start the final day of Rally Argentina with a 39.8-second lead over Sebastien Ogier. A mistake on SS7 and puncture on SS8 left Ogier half a minute adrift of Loeb and convinced him to settle for second place . Ogier’s Volkswagen outpaced Loeb’s Citroen by half a second in their head-to-head on the evening superspecial that closed Friday’s action, but that made scant impact on the overall standings
Loeb not giving up on catching Ogier
May 3rd, 2013
Sebastien Loeb is ready to redouble his efforts to catch Sebastien Ogier when Rally Argentina turns south for its longest day on Friday. The Citroen driver trails his Volkswagen rival by 16.3 seconds going into the second day of the event, but still has his sights set on an eighth straight Rally Argentina victory.
Ogier pulls away in Argentina
May 2nd, 2013
Sebastien Ogier stretched his Rally Argentina lead to 16.3 seconds over Sebastien Loeb by the end of Thursday’s leg.
Loeb adopting Hirvonen’s style
May 2nd, 2013
Sebastien Loeb is adjusting his driving style closer to Citroen team-mate Mikko Hirvonen’s as he sticks with a compromise set-up for his World Rally Championship return in Argentina. Unable to attend the team’s final test for this event, Loeb took the same set-up as team-mates Hirvonen and Dani Sordo for this week’s Villa Carlos Paz-based event, but could not find his rhythm with his Citroen through Thursday morning’s opener. “It’s not 100 per cent with the car,” he said.
Ogier leads from Citroens in Argentina
May 2nd, 2013
Sebastien Ogier holds a narrow lead over Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb at the end of a tense and foggy first morning of Rally Argentina.
Latvala fastest in Argentina qualifying
May 1st, 2013
Volkswagen driver Jari-Matti Latvala set fastest time at this morning’s Rally Argentina qualifying stage. Latvala was three hundredths of a second quicker than returning world champion Sebastien Loeb across the 3.75-mile stage just outside Villa Carlos Paz
Ogier insists Loeb won’t be his focus
April 30th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier insists Sebastien Loeb’s World Rally return in Argentina will not distract him from his 2013 championship bid. The pair have already met twice this year. Loeb had the upper hand in the season-opening Monte Carlo Rally , but could do little to prevent Ogier clinching a first win for Volkswagen’s new team in Sweden .
Sordo sure of Argentina victory push
April 24th, 2013
Dani Sordo has no doubt that he will be a victory contender from the outset when the World Rally Championship resumes in Argentina next month, following his breakthrough Portugal performance. Although Sordo crashed out on day two in Portugal, the accident came when he was right on dominant points leader Sebastien Ogier’s tail in the lead battle. Citroen had been blown away by Ogier and Volkswagen in Mexico in March, but Sordo and team-mate Mikko Hirvonen made significant progress at a subsequent test
Ogier feared glitch would cost victory
April 15th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier feared his bid for Rally of Portugal victory would be ended by the technical problems that struck his Volkswagen on Sunday morning. The Frenchman had built up a lead of more than a minute over everyone but team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala heading into the final four stages, but a technical problem – subsequently diagnosed as a slipping clutch – meant he surrendered huge chunks of time on stage 12. With no service to separate that SS12 and the following 52-kilometre stage 13, and with Mikko Hirvonen rapidly closing, Ogier’s lead looked increasingly precarious.
Ogier charges clear in Portugal
April 13th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier put the rest of the field over half a minute behind by the end of day two of the Rally of Portugal. Despite comfortably leading the event following mistakes by main opposition Mads Ostberg and Dani Sordo , Ogier had no qualms about continuing to push, and was fastest on all three Saturday afternoon stages. That put the Frenchman 34 seconds clear of Volkswagen team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala, who lost a small amount of time with a puncture late on the final stage.
Ogier and Latvala pull away
April 13th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier is stretching away from team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala in a Volkswagen one-two halfway through day two in Portugal. With Dani Sordo having damaged his Citroen while chasing Ogier, and Mads Ostberg having rolled his M-Sport Ford while holding the VW off on Friday, the World Rally Championship leader is successfully seeing his rivals off. Ogier’s main battle is with his health, as his lingering illness is leaving him struggling for energy on the stages
Ogier leads into Saturday in Portugal
April 12th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier extended his lead over Dani Sordo to 4.4 seconds after finishing second-fastest on the superspecial that closed Friday’s Rally Portugal running. The Volkswagen driver found two seconds on his Citroen rival over the 3.27 kilometre Lisboa stage.
Ogier leads from Sordo in Portugal
April 12th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier benefited from Mads Ostberg’s crash and then held off a charging Dani Sordo to lead Rally Portugal after SS4. Ostberg had grabbed the lead from Ogier after SS2 but then rolled 13 kilometres into the following stage
Ostberg grabs early lead from Ogier
April 12th, 2013
Mads Ostberg grabbed the Rally of Portugal lead from Sebastien Ogier at the end of stage two on Friday morning. Ogier had already looked capable of delivering a third straight dominant win when he came through the opening Mu stage four seconds clear of nearest rival Ostberg
Unwell Ogier forced to miss Fafe
April 4th, 2013
World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Ogier has withdrawn from this weekend’s Fafe Rallysprint due to illness. The Fafe event is the traditional non-championship curtain raiser to the Portuguese WRC round, which takes place later this month. Ogier said he wanted to rest to ensure he was fully fit for the main event.
Loeb to advise Kubica on WRC debut
March 29th, 2013
Nine-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb will be on hand to help Robert Kubica with his gravel and WRC debut in a Citroen DS3 RRC on next month’s Rally of Portugal. The Polish driver stunned the sport with his first asphalt outing in the DS3 on last week’s Canaries Rally , but his WRC2 debut in Portugal is expected to be more complicated for the former Canadian Grand Prix winner. Kubica’s gravel experience is limited to just 40 miles in one of his own Group N cars and, while he will test his DS3 ahead of the Faro event, Citroen team principal Yves Matton expects him to have questions.
Ogier secures Mexico victory
March 10th, 2013
Sebastien Ogier completed his domination of Rally Mexico as he wrapped up victory and a maximum score on Sunday’s final loop of stages. Ogier had a scare after the morning’s opening Guanajuatito stage when he had to spend 20 minutes fixing a sensor issue on his Volkswagen.
