Mallory embroiled in noise row

British circuit Mallory Park is embroiled in a battle with its local community over excessive noise at the Leicestershire circuit. Some residents have demanded the local council enforces restrictions on the number of days Mallory can operate. The circuit has breached a planning agreement that dates back to 1985, and residents have complained about Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council failing to enforce that arrangement
McLaren would settle for points in opener

McLaren says simply scoring points in the Australian Grand Prix will be enough for now, as it plays down any talk that it expects to be the pacesetter from the off. Although the competitive order ahead of the first race of the season is impossible to call, McLaren has dropped a firm hint that it believes its new MP4-28 has plenty of room for improvement. Both Jenson Button and Sergio Perez said during testing that they were struggling to get a full understanding of the car , and team principal Martin Whitmarsh said on Friday that the aim for now was to establish a good baseline for the rest of the campaign
New LMP1 rules to benefit privateers

The FIA believes that it can create a set of regulations that will appeal to privateers wanting to challenge for overall victories at Le Mans and in the World Endurance Championship. AUTOSPORT recently reported that the sport’s governing body was working with Le Mans organiser the ACO to come up with a set of regulations for 2014 that will encourage privateer teams to enter the top class of prototype racing.

Closed cockpits now appear to be inevitable in Formula 1, with technical chiefs set to ramp up efforts to bring them in following Fernando Alonso’s lucky escape in the first lap crash at the Belgian Grand Prix. Romain Grosjean’s Lotus flew over the front of Alonso’s cockpit in the pile-up, and it was fortunate that the Ferrari driver did not suffer any impact on his helmet

Daytona start pushed to Monday night

NASCAR officials have pushed back the start of the Daytona 500 to Monday night. NASCAR president Mike Helton announced this morning that the new starting time for the Sprint Cup Series season-opener will be 7pm US Eastern Time. Despite a dry early morning in Daytona, rain returned at around 9am and is expected to continue into the afternoon.
Moss: Vettel is a modern Fangio

Moss, who was one of five-time champion Fangio’s biggest rivals in the 1950s and his team-mate at Mercedes in 1955, said Vettel’s current superiority over the F1 field was comparable to Fangio’s.
Barrichello hit by engine problems

AUSTIN, Texas — Officials with the proposed Formula One track in Austin, Texas, have revealed the layout for the track that is expected to host the return of the United States Grand Prix beginning in 2012. With a complete length of 3.4 miles, the track will combine modern features with details reminiscent of traditional races from the 1960s
