Breen hails Pirelli programme move
October 25th, 2010
Irish driver Craig Breen has admitted winning a place on next year’s Pirelli Star Driver programme is the biggest moment of his career to date. The Ford Fiesta S2000 driver was one of six drivers announced in Salou, Spain yesterday afternoon. Breen has spent this season competing in the British Rally Championship, where he took his first BRC win – the International Rally Northern Ireland – earlier this year.
Abu Dhabi WRC bid set to be delayed
May 17th, 2010
Abu Dhabi’s chances of running a round of the World Rally Championship in the near future appear to have been cast into doubt following a statement that the emirate’s candidate WRC round will not run until December 2011. Abu Dhabi caused a stir in the WRC service park when it was included in North One Sport’s 2011 calendar proposed to the World Motor Sport Council by the sport’s promoter. It was removed and replaced by the Jordan Rally, with an expectation that, following a candidate event this December, there was a strong possibility Abu Dhabi would feature in WRC 2012
WRC: Tactics have been eradicated
April 16th, 2010
Tactics in the World Rally Championship will be a thing of the past following the Rally of Turkey stewards’ decision warning crews not to bring the sport into disrepute. That’s the view of WRC Commission president Morrie Chandler, who has pointed out that the wording of the stewards’ bulletin issued yesterday means the stewards can investigate any scenario they feel brings the sport into disrepute. There had been calls for the tactics to be banned, but there was no way for the FIA to re-write a regulation in time for this week’s fourth round of the series
WRC plans single engine per season
March 25th, 2010
World Rally Championship Commission president Morrie Chandler has revealed plans to force manufacturers to run a single engine through the season. Chandler admitted the plans were unlikely to be implemented in time for next season, but he said they were at the core of the FIA’s hopes of continuing to contain costs in the WRC
FIA still in favour of rally rotation
March 16th, 2010
World Rally Championship Commission president Morrie Chandler has revealed that he does still believe some element of rotation can work in the WRC calendar. A policy of rotation was re-introduced to the series two years ago under former FIA president Max Mosley’s regime
WRC calendar decision delayed
March 11th, 2010
The proposed calendar for next year’s World Rally Championship has not been ratified by today’s World Motor Sport Council meeting in Bahrain. The WMSC has instructed FIA president Jean Todt, WRC Commission president Morrie Chandler and North One Sport, the WRC’s promoter, to “further consider the World Rally calendar.” A final version of the calendar is to be decided, according to the FIA’s communication from the meeting, no later than April 16. North One Sport proposed a 15-round calendar at last month’s meeting of the WRC Commission
WRC set to introduce longer events
March 10th, 2010
Endurance rallying could return to the World Rally Championship next year, if a proposed removal of the maximum number of competitive miles is implemented. Rounds of the WRC are currently permitted to run anything up to 310 competitive miles, an increase from the 220-mile rule which had been in place prior to this season’s increase. But that limit could be binned next year following a meeting of the WRC’s Global Working Group
