Ducati duo positive over new chassis

Nicky Hayden and Andrea Dovizioso believe Ducati’s new MotoGP chassis is proof the team is heading in the right direction. The pair rode the development machine, which features a revised aluminium chassis, in Monday’s Jerez test. Pirro to stand in for Spies at Le Mans

Ducati MotoGP test rider Michele Pirro will fill in for Ben Spies in the satellite Pramac squad for the French Grand Prix. The American will miss his second straight race as he struggles to overcome physical problems that began with a heavy crash at Sepang last year and were exacerbated in testing at the same track last month . Pirro had also been slated to stand in for Spies at Jerez, only for Ducati to confirm he would, as originally intended, race its development bike at the Spanish track

Marc Marquez followed up his controversial second place in the Jerez Grand Prix by setting the pace in MotoGP testing at the Spanish track. The Spaniard, who moved into the championship lead following his third straight podium, led the way with a 1m38.824s set early on in the one-day test.
Iannone to undergo arm surgery

Pramac Ducati MotoGP driver Andrea Iannone will undergo arm surgery on Tuesday. The Italian suffered from arm pump during this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez and eventually crashed out. He had also crashed in qualifying , sustaining cuts to his legs

Valentino Rossi was surprised that Honda had the edge over Yamaha in Sunday’s MotoGP race at Jerez. Rossi and factory Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo lost out to the works Hondas of Dani Pedrosa and Marc Marquez, with the latter beating Lorenzo to second place in controversial circumstances .

Dani Pedrosa took a dominant win in the MotoGP race at Jerez, while Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo clashed at the final corner. Pedrosa had taken the lead from Lorenzo off the line, but he lost the place at the second corner. Lorenzo and Pedrosa then pulled away from the rest of the field until lap six, when the Honda rider made it back into the lead with a move into the Dry Sack hairpin

Crutchlow fastest in third practice

Cal Crutchlow was fastest in the third MotoGP practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix. Crutchlow set the quickest time of the weekend so far – his best lap a 1m38.975s – to become the first driver to dip below the 1m39s mark. His satellite Tech 3 Yamaha, which had experienced a front-brake problem earlier in the session, edged out Dani Pedrosa’s Honda by less than two hundredths of a second.

Valentino Rossi fears he will not be able to sustain a strong race pace throughout Sunday’s Spanish Grand Prix unless he can get to grips with this weekend’s tyre choice. Rossi was third and fourth in the two Friday practice sessions at Jerez, as his Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo led the way .

The reigning world champion delivered a 1m39.701s lap to topple erstwhile leader Dani Pedrosa by three thousandths of a second. Pramac Ducati has confirmed that it will only field Andrea Iannone in this weekend’s Jerez MotoGP race, as Michele Pirro will run with the works team rather than on Ben Spies’ bike. Factory test rider Pirro was originally listed as the stand-in for Spies in the Spanish Grand Prix, as the American skips the race to recover from lingering injuries. But Jerez had previously been announced as one of the venues at which Pirro would ride an additional works Ducati alongside Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden, and Ducati said earlier this week that this would go ahead, with the Italian on a development machine
Schwantz to return for Suzuka 8 Hours

Karel Abraham will attempt to return to MotoGP action at Jerez this weekend, just two weeks after breaking his collarbone in a qualifying crash at Austin. The Czech rider clashed with Bryan Staring early in Q1 , forcing him to sit out the inaugural race at the American circuit. The 23-year-old admits there have been complications to his recovery, but says he is determined to attempt a return at Jerez.

Ben Spies will miss MotoGP’s forthcoming Jerez race due to injury, with Ducati test rider Michele Pirro replacing him in the satellite Pramac squad. The American has still not fully recovered from a heavy fall in last year’s Sepang race, which left him with an AC shoulder separation, a cracked rib and bruising to the lung. He was forced to sit out the final two races of 2012 and the early ’13 pre-season tests as a result.
