Brands layout will limit DRS – Ekstrom
May 14th, 2013
The DTM’s new DRS will have virtually no impact on overtaking at Brands Hatch this weekend, according to Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom. The Formula 1-style passing aid made its debut at Hockenheim earlier this month along with option tyres and was a factor in creating 45 on-track position changes compared to the 13 experienced in the previous race at the track. But at just 1.2 miles, and without a straight of the length of Hockenheim’s, two-time DTM champion Ekstrom believes that pit strategy will have a greater bearing on the race result.
Lotus: missing victory is no disgrace
April 22nd, 2013
Lotus boss Eric Boullier says his team has no reason to be disappointed at missing out on victory in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean’s chances of victory were effectively dashed by a poor performance in qualifying , which left them unable to threaten eventual winner Sebastian Vettel in the key early stages of the race. With the pair coming through to finish second and third, there was every chance they could have challenged for the win if they had started near the front.
Marquez downplays Austin test pace
March 19th, 2013
Marc Marquez has played down the significance of his performance at what he labelled a ‘fictitious’ Austin MotoGP test. The Honda rider, who graduates to the premier class after winning last year’s Moto2 title, set the pace on all three days at the US track.
Marquez will change MotoGP – Hayden
March 16th, 2013
Marc Marquez has the potential to change the face of MotoGP, reckons Ducati rider Nicky Hayden. The 2010 125cc champion and last year’s Moto2 title-winner has been consistently impressive since stepping up to MotoGP with Honda over the winter.

AmD optimistic about NGTC potential
January 10th, 2013
Shaun Hollamby believes that his AmD Tuning squad’s switch to NGTC machinery will help it run near the front of the British Touring Car field next year. AmD announced earlier this week that it is building an NGTC-spec Vauxhall Astra and plans to debut the car during the second half of 2013, after beginning the season with its existing S2000 Volkswagen Golf
Rivals say Vettel was lucky in race
November 5th, 2012
Sebastian Vettel’s rivals believe the Red Bull driver was lucky to be able to recover from a pitlane start to finish third in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Although the Red Bull driver pulled off some great overtaking moves to haul his way near the front of the field, he also enjoyed two moments of good fortune when safety cars came out at suitable times for him

Grosjean: Victory not vital for Lotus
October 2nd, 2012
Romain Grosjean believes it is not essential for Lotus to win a grand prix this year. The Enstone-based team has come close to victory on occasions in 2012, with Kimi Raikkonen and Grosjean scoring nine podium finishes between them. Lotus has often been tipped to fight for wins going into grand prix weekends, but so far it has been unable to deliver on that hype
Grosjean: No regrets about wild lap
September 22nd, 2012
Romain Grosjean has no regrets about his wild final lap in qualifying for the Singapore Grand Prix – despite only ending up eighth on the grid . The Frenchman had looked set for a place near the front after showing strongly in Q1 and Q2, but a slide at Turn 9 in Q3 and a big lock-up into the chicane cost him valuable time. But despite not showing the full potential of the Lotus on what has been a difficult weekend for the Enstone team , Grosjean felt that he did the right thing in attacking so hard on that final lap.
Lotus says title hopes still on track
September 11th, 2012
Lotus believes that its world championship hopes are still on track, as it predicts an upturn in form over the next few races. Although Kimi Raikkonen could manage no better than fifth in the Italian Grand Prix, the Enstone-based outfit had never expected to be fighting near the front at the high-speed Monza venue . But with tracks coming up like Singapore, which will play to the strengths of the Lotus E20, team principal Eric Boullier says there is every reason to feel confident about its prospects.
Button not feeling any extra pressure
September 2nd, 2012
Jenson Button insists that starting from pole position for the first time since the 2009 Monaco Grand Prix will not put him under any extra pressure at Spa. The 32-year-old’s qualifying performance ends a 60-race pole position drought and means that Button has a strong chance of taking his first Belgian GP win .
Grosjean calm about Spa chances
August 31st, 2012
Lotus is keeping its hopes in check for this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix despite being viewed by many as favourite for victory , says Romain Grosjean. With the Enstone-based team having secured a double podium finish in Hungary , and its car expected to be well-suited to the high-speed Spa circuit, the outfit is being tipped for its first Formula 1 victory of the season. However, Grosjean says the lessons of this year show that form at each race has been hard to predict – which is why it is not getting ahead of itself just yet.
Senna elated to make Q3 in Hungary
July 28th, 2012
Bruno Senna was elated after making it into the top 10 for the first time year in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Brazilian had not been part of the Q3 shootout since last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix, and had not qualified higher than 13th so far in 2012
Button: McLaren update could be pivotal
July 19th, 2012
Jenson Button is hopeful that McLaren’s major upgrade package for the German Grand Prix will put the team back in contention near the front of the field. The Briton, without a top-five finish since China, believes that McLaren’s recent struggles are down to the team not matching the development pace of its rivals. He expects comprehensive updates to move the team closer to Red Bull and Ferrari, insisting that extra downforce will help solve its tyre management problems.
Maldonado wants to learn from mistakes
July 19th, 2012
Pastor Maldonado has vowed to improve his consistency after scoring points only twice in nine races so far this year. Aside from his victory in the Spanish Grand Prix, the Williams driver has only an eighth place in China to his name and, despite regularly running in the top 10, has scored just 29 points, leaving him 10th in the championship. Clashes with Lewis Hamilton at Valencia and Sergio Perez at Silverstone have cost him strong finishes in the last two races and Maldonado is now focused on converting his pace into regular results.
Ferrari expects to be strong in Germany
July 17th, 2012
Ferrari is confident it will be fighting at the front of the field at this weekend’s German Grand Prix, as it bids to help Fernando Alonso further extend his lead at the head of the world championship. With the team having made impressive progress from its disappointing pre-season performance, Alonso’s triumph in Valencia and pole position and podium finish at Silverstone have left the team bullish about its chances this time out. In an interview with Ferrari’s official website, Alonso’s race engineer Andrea Stella said: “The car was good in Valencia, it was also good in Silverstone.
Lotus plans ‘interesting’ updates
July 13th, 2012
Lotus will try out what it calls some ‘interesting’ developments at the German Grand Prix next weekend, as it bids to find that extra element to help it deliver a victory. The Enstone-based team has challenged near the front of the field several times this year, but has never quite put together all it needed to come out on top.
McLaren duo say Lotus the car to beat
May 24th, 2012
McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton reckon Lotus emerged from Thursday practice in Monaco in the best shape. Although Kimi Raikkonen lost the morning with a steering issue and managed little dry running in the afternoon, his team-mate Romain Grosjean’s second places in both practice sessions left rivals impressed with Lotus’s pace. “The cars that looked very fast for me were the Lotus,” said Button
