  • Jason Lofing
    iRacing.com Series Writer
Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.

I was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1988 and moved to Midland, Michigan when I was two years old. I stayed there until third grade when I moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan and now I currently live in Naperville, IL where I'm attending Metea Valley High School as a 9th grader. In the past, I have participated in soccer and this year I plan on joining swimming or water polo. My family includes my 15 year old sister, a 7 year old sister and my mom and dad. I have been writing since 6th grade and have participated in many writing contests in my school and have received several awards for writing.
My fascination for motorsports began when I was nine. The first NASCAR race I watched on TV was the 2009 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway, won by Kasey Kahne. My favorite NASCAR drivers are Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Jimmie Johnson. I have watched all the races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series since 2010. I currently have three wins on iRacing, two of them in the Nationwide car at Daytona and one in the Street stocks at Charlotte. My favorite car and type of track on iRacing is the Nationwide Series (B Class) car and superspeedways.

I was born in Adelaide and we moved-out for Angle Vale for a few years until I was about 7 years old, when we moved to the Barossa Valley where I live now. I'm 19 years old and currently traveling back and forth weekly as I'm studying for a Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology.

I've always had a love for racing as my close family did some racing and we were always out at the local dirt track. I joined iRacing back in 2010 and slowly but surely got the hang of it as this is my first experience with sim racing and am loving it each time I race. I've won two SK Modified titles (almost had three in a row but finished P2 in 2011 S4), an inRacingNews Challenge championship (2012 S1 Mazda) and was also an AustralAsian Intel GT Series Finalist.
  • Nathan Aljoe
    Contributing Writer
Nathan's passion for motorsport first began in the late 1980s, captivated by the season in which Aryton Senna won his first F1 title with McLaren. Over the years his interest widened to include the British Touring Car Championship, World Rally Championship, NASCAR and various other forms of motorsport. Nathan began sim-racing in the mid 1990s using games developed by Papyrus. He later moved onto SimBim simulations such as GTR, GTR2 and GTR Evolution and has most recently joined the iRacing community.

When he's not working or sim racing, Nathan enjoys spending time and relaxing with his family. Other hobbies include going to festivals, tinkering with his car and doing up his house.
  • Austin Hartenfels
    Contributing Writer
Born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia, I have always had a serious passion for cars and motorsports. Hoping one day to become an automotive journalist for a magazine, I constantly crave the exciting competition that comes along with racing and sim-racing. Having participated in a mere test session in a Legends car at Old Dominion Speedway, I have not been able to get into any real-life competition . . . yet.

As a sim racer, my interests date back to "GTR Evolution." My goal is to have fun and win some races. I made it to Oval Pro in 2010, but did not become very successful. I enjoy any mixed road racing competition and love racing the Silverados around almost any track.

Jordan began sim-racing in 2005 with the NASCAR Racing 2003 Season sim and then joined the iRacing community in June of 2008. He hails from Fort Smith, Arkansas where he is currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, after which he plans to attend the University of Arkansas to earn his MBA. Although he enjoys watching and playing basketball, most of Jordan's focus is on motorsports, particularly NASCAR: "Anything that burns gas and goes fast, I like."
  • Scott Kelly
    Contributing Writer
Born and raised in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area, Scott Kelly has had a love for motorsports ever since his father did the right thing by introducing auto racing into his life. No longer able to quench his need for speed by spectating NASCAR races on TV and watching dirt track stars slide around local tracks, Kelly eventually picked-up sim racing in his teens, wheeling cars found in Ratbag Games' "Dirt Track Racing" and "World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars" while also becoming introduced into multiple Papyrus sim-racing series. Joining the iRacing ranks in late 2011, Kelly set his sights on the short track racing he was familiar with, focusing on the sprint car, while also driving the Legends and street stock in multiple iRacing.com leagues.

Kelly brings not just his enthusiasm for racing to the highest-rated motorsports simulation, but also his B.A. degree in English; he covers the action seen in the iRacing.com Sprint Car Series, while also placing the spotlight on various leagues within the service. Enjoying his start to a career in motorsports journalism, Kelly also doesn't mind visiting victory lane from time-to-time.

O'Keefe has been sim-racing since 2005, starting on the Live For Speed simulator. After moving to iRacing in 2008, he was able to qualify for the NASCAR iRacing Pro Series (NiPS) in both 2011 and 2012. He will continue to compete and write about the iRacing.com Skip Barber Series throughout the coming year before taking another run at the NiPS in late 2013.

I was born in Florence, South Carolina in 1989 and have lived here my entire life. I've been around racing since I was a young kid watching with my dad on Sundays. In 2009 and found my local track, Florence Motor Speedway and started working for them as a PR guy the same year. At the end of that season, I started writing for RACE22.com, a Late Model Stock Car news site. In 2010, I picked up my first DSLR camera and started shooting races. To this day, I've experienced some of the best races from behind the camera.

I've been with the iRacing service since its public beta in 2008, back when the top oval car was the Late Model. I've been in over 500 races on the service with 70+ wins on both oval and road. My favorite car on the service is the Chevrolet Silverado. Darlington Raceway and Concord Speedway are my favorite tracks simply because everybody hates them.

When George isn't grading laboratory reports or iRacing, he is performing at bluegrass festivals in the Northeast, making fishing lures, playing golf, and rooting for his beloved Baltimore Orioles.

Luza Raids Richmond

online racing

Richmond International Raceway plays host to Week Three of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (open setup), which is a favorite track among many sim racers within the iRacing.com service. The track is one of the fastest short tracks in the country which allows for drivers to get the best of both worlds when it comes to racing–the sense of speed as well as the beating and banging that short track racing generally provides. A total of 635 racers attempted at least one race during the week, but the fastest sim racer in Texas brought home the checkered flag in the week’s high Strength of Field and earned the most championship points as a result. Ryan Luza took the checkered flag first in the 3803 Strength of Field by 1.010 [...]

Plenty of Passion at Phoenix

Before the final weeks of 2012 S4, iRacing.com announced that they would be expanding the race times and dates for all series. No longer would iRacing.com series be racing on just a few days a week, but every day, opportunities to participate in official races would be given. The likelihood for newcomers to participate in the iRacing.com Sprint Car Series had never been higher until this time. With this in mind, a shakeup in the roster of iSCS regulars was sure to be seen. As with every season in the iSCS, the first stop in 2013 was at Phoenix International Raceway. Coming off of his hottest streak yet, 6-time defending champion Alan Binder was primed to return to dominating form once more, but with new blood taking the time to [...]

Moustakas & Humpe Master Darlington

Week 2 Darlington Open P1

Week Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (open setup) is arguably the most difficult week of the season. The series pays a visit to the track too tough to tame in Darlington Raceway for some beating, banging, and undoubtedly, some arguing. Over 400 sim racers took the green flag for at least one race during the week and it’s safe to bet that a majority of them weren’t happy with their results. Even though a lot the racers probably weren’t happy, there were at least two people happy after a long, long week of online racing. Last season’s champion Kenny Humpe (Ohio) returned to form this week as he took the checkered flag in dominating fashion over teammate Nick Neben (Plains) by 18.087 seconds in a caution free [...]

Week 1 Kentucky Open P1

A new season is upon us on the iRacing.com service and that means thousands of drivers with many great opportunities. Some drivers hope of taking their Silverado to victory lane as many times as possible, while others search for top five finishes. However, there are a select few who look to leave the ultimate mark and win the Season One championship. Nearly 850 sim racers took the green flag during Week One of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (open setup) at Kentucky Speedway located in Sparta, Kentucky. The 1.5-mile D-shaped oval is unlike many other speedways on the NASCAR circuit. Its bumps and abrasive surface cause havoc for many drivers, making this racing venue a favorite for those who love a challenge and the least favorite for others. Texan [...]

As the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end”. After twelve weeks of online racing, Season Four 2012 comes to a conclusion as the checkered flag falls at Chicagoland Speedway. Opening in 2001, Chicagoland Speedway has played host to many races in the top three series throughout its history. Names such as Gordon, Stewart, Earnhardt, and Keselowski have all made visits to victory lane at Chicago. Over 1,000 sim racers tried to add their name to the list of winners, but a few familiar faces visited the winner’s circle during the final week of action in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (open setup). Nick Neben (Plains) put his Silverado in the right place at the right time during this week’s high Strength of Field, which [...]

Dave Kaemmer Comes Clean on Dirt

by Nick Neben on December 2nd, 2011

Developing artist's conception of iRacing sprint car on dirt? Easy (relatively). Developing practical model of dirt track racing for iRacing? Not so much.

Dirt: It’s that painfully slippery surface that causes most of us a 1x or a 2x at some point; a 4x if we are unlucky enough to really lose it.  It’s something that will take a perfectly fine race car and send it 180 degrees backwards into a barrier or sand trap. For most road racers dirt is evil.  Most oval racers don’t even worry about dirt while racing in their paved coliseums.   But for one group dirt is for racing.  Pavement?  It’s just for getting there.  From short, bullring dirt tracks to miles of rally stages, this group thrives on sim racing in the dirty stuff. Motorsports on dirt takes many forms across the world.  It’s best known in America for dirt oval racing, while the rest of the [...]

Scanning What’s in Store for iRacing with Tony Gardner

by Nick Neben on November 18th, 2011

The Long Beach spline is finished . . . now comes the tricky part!

One of the biggest selling points in iRacing for me is the laser-scanned tracks.  As a sim-racer I may not benefit from knowing each bump and nuance of the real-world track, but knowing what I am driving from my living room is accurate down to the millimeter to what I see drivers racing on TV and in person adds to my experience overall. This unique and authentic feel that you can only get from laser-scanning adds so much to each track within the iRacing service. Tony Gardner, president of iRacing.com, recently provided me with some insights to the process of how the company decided on laser-scanning, the process of signing tracks, what goes into the decision on what tracks are brought into the service for the members and the status [...]

Sansone Leads after Bristol

Thursday night produced more wheel-to-wheel action between Stergios and Sansone, with Sansone taking the win.

The high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway hosted the iRacing.com Sprint Car Cup for the 10th week of racing action in 2011 Season 3. Two nights of racing proved that even with a small car count, sprint cars at Thunder Valley can always provide great online racing action. Going into the week Alan Binder led the points over PJ Stergios and Vinnie Sansone. Tuesday night Casey Malone led the field to the green with Alan Binder on the outside front row. Malone led with Sansone right on his tail for the first 28 laps until Stergios found space up against the wall to fly by the top two. A late restart would set-up a six lap battle between Stergios and Sansone for the win. Stergios used the top line to [...]

Duel in the Desert

The first season for the Sprint Car Cup debuted at Phoenix International Raceway during Week Two of the 2011 season, starting the online racing action off fast at the one mile low-banked tri-oval in the Valley of the Sun. Twenty car fields battled their way around the desert for three days at blistering speeds with the top qualification lap set by Pat Dotson at 141.18 mph. Thirty-two races were run during the week with 234 drivers, and 21 different winners.   Mike McKinney and Brandon M Thrasher found themselves crossing the line first three times each at the end of the 40 lap sprint races, taking in the most wins for the week. Alan Gray, the top points earner for the week, captured two wins in the two highest strength [...]

InsideSimRacing Silver Crown Championship is Off and Running

The iRacing Silver Crown Series has started in full swing for the fourth season of 2010. Many iRacing members are unaware that his fun yet challenging B level car has taken on a whole new meaning, as InsideSimRacing has made it public that they will be holding a special contest for this season’s Silver Crown Series.  With a little help from strong Silver Crown series advocate, Nick Neben, the InsideSimRacing Silver Crown Championship was born. Aside from the regular points that iRacing will be calculating, a second series of points will be used for the InsideSimRacing championship.  Regardless of the number of drivers in each split, each race winner will receive 60 points, and last place will receive three points. You can also get three bonus points for leading the [...]

Five in a row, Jimmie who?

The Great Plains Club finished off the third season of 2010 the same way it had the previous four seasons: atop the Central Region standings in the World Cup of iRacing competition. After jumping out to an early lead in Week One of the season, the Great Plains never looked back, holding the lead for all twelve weeks. This championship puts them in position to clinch an automatic birth into the World Cup of iRacing and bypass the regional runoffs if they can extend the streak to six in a row. The season was led by Bill Bledsoe with 819 club points for the Great Plains, followed by Landon Harrison with 700, and Jared Thompson2 with 643. 187 drivers scored points for the club, and helped keep Michigan, Indiana, and [...]

Final Chance to Qualify for Regional Annual Club Championship

The final season to qualify for the Regional Annual Club Championship (RACC) in January is underway with the first week in the books. Two teams that have yet to earn a spot in the RACC currently lead the way in their regions. The Northeast has the usual suspects back at the top of the leader board; the Pacific is once again led by the West, while two underdogs once again pull away from the rest of their regions. The Central European Region, which for the last three seasons has been dominated by Club Italia, has a new leader for now as the DE-AT-CH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) take the top spot after a week of racing. Italy has a chance to earn a spot directly to the World Cup of iRacing, [...]

World Cup: Checkered Flag Falls on Season 3

Season Three of the World Cup of iRacing has reached the finish with an eventful ending. Week Twelve brought out a New England-New York rivalry that will last for many seasons to come, Central Europe has once again been ruled by a single country, and two underdogs took the top spots in their regions.  As a result, many new faces have been added to the mix for January’s Regional Annual Club Championship (RACC). The most talked about Regional Season Club Championship (RSCC) was the Northeastern Region’s battle for the top spot. The two-time defending champions New York were working hard to overcome the lead New England had built-up over the previous two weeks. New York’s top point scorer, Bob Kern, with an amazing 2029 points rewrote the rule books in [...]

Final Week of Season 3 for the World Cup

The final week for Season 3 of the World Cup of iRacing is underway and two regions are still too close to call a winner. In the Northeastern Region New England leads New York, and in the Southeastern Region South America still has a gap over the Mid-South. New England lost the lead going into Saturday’s events, falling back 140 points to New York, but came back strong through Sunday, retook the lead and were out front by 243 points by Monday morning. They now have a lead of 329 points and will look to hold onto it and take their first Regional Season Club Championships (RSCC). New York will have to make a bigger push this week than last to get to the top of the region and stay [...]

World Cup: Two Weeks and Counting

Less than two weeks remain in the third season of the World Cup of iRacing. Last week three regional championships were up for grabs, Italy has now taken a lead that looks too big for DE-AT-CH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) to overcome, New England still holds the point in the Northeastern Region over New York, as South America tries to hang on to a narrow lead over the Mid-South for the Southeastern Region. The third smallest club in iRacing, South America is in a battle with the Mid-South club for the Southeastern Region. South America has stayed out in front of the Mid-South by around 400 points over the last week, but one big push by the seventh largest club in iRacing could send South America back to the drawing board [...]
