Dani Pedrosa dominated an eventful French Grand Prix to take over the top spot in the MotoGP championship standings. Pedrosa was well clear of Cal Crutchlow, second aboard the Tech 3 Yamaha despite riding with a shin fracture from his practice crash. The win moved Pedrosa six points clear of team-mate Marc Marquez, who recovered to third on the second Honda after a poor start, and 17 ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, whose Yamaha was only seventh.

Marc Marquez claimed his second MotoGP pole in four starts as he converted his practice pace to the qualifying top spot at Le Mans. Riding his spare Honda after crashing at the chicane late in the pre-qualifying practice session, Marquez put in an 1m33.187s in Q2 to take provisional pole. Jorge Lorenzo trailed that by 0.2 seconds at first, before closing to within 0.030s with his penultimate lap.

Dani Pedrosa hung on at the top of the times in opening MotoGP practice at Le Mans despite a strong late challenge from Jorge Lorenzo. Pedrosa’s Honda had led the way for most of the morning, getting down to rapid flying laps quicker than anyone else and building an early cushion over the field.

Cal Crutchlow has questioned the wisdom of Yamaha’s negotiations with Pol Espargaro that could cost the Briton his Tech 3 ride at the end of 2013. The 27-year-old Briton confirmed he is aware of Yamaha’s plans to sign Espargaro, runner-up to Marc Marquez in last year’s Moto2 championship, to a factory contract. Works riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, and Tech 3 team-mate Bradley Smith, all have contracts with the Japanese manufacturer, but Crutchlow only has a one-year deal

Cal Crutchlow was fastest in the third MotoGP practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix. Crutchlow set the quickest time of the weekend so far – his best lap a 1m38.975s – to become the first driver to dip below the 1m39s mark. His satellite Tech 3 Yamaha, which had experienced a front-brake problem earlier in the session, edged out Dani Pedrosa’s Honda by less than two hundredths of a second.

Pramac Ducati has confirmed that it will only field Andrea Iannone in this weekend’s Jerez MotoGP race, as Michele Pirro will run with the works team rather than on Ben Spies’ bike. Factory test rider Pirro was originally listed as the stand-in for Spies in the Spanish Grand Prix, as the American skips the race to recover from lingering injuries. But Jerez had previously been announced as one of the venues at which Pirro would ride an additional works Ducati alongside Andrea Dovizioso and Nicky Hayden, and Ducati said earlier this week that this would go ahead, with the Italian on a development machine

Marc Marquez dominated second practice for MotoGP’s inaugural race at Austin on Friday. Having already proved unstoppable in pre-season testing at the Texan venue and the Friday morning session , it was little surprise when Marquez led the way again in practice two. He briefly put himself 1.8 seconds clear of his rivals before his Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa closed the gap to more respectable levels.

Ducati admits it will arrive at Austin on the back foot following its decision to skip MotoGP’s pre-season test at the Texan track. While Honda and Yamaha’s factory riders completed a collective 10 days of running in March, Ducati’s sole experience comes via Nicky Hayden’s brief run around the circuit on a street bike. Following the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix, where Andrea Dovizioso and Hayden were seventh and eighth respectively, Ducati team manager Vittoriano Guareschi acknowledged his team faces a difficult weekend.

He then aggravated the injury at Aragon when he flew over the track perimeter in a second-lap crash.

Dani Pedrosa restored his testing superiority on the final day of MotoGP’s second winter 2013 test at Sepang on Thursday. Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo had become the first man to beat Pedrosa in a 2013 test when he led the way on day two , but Honda was back in front as the Malaysian test wrapped up.
