Andy Neate’s new IP Race Engineering squad will miss the opening round of the British Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch. The outfit, which was established by former MG works driver Neate during the winter, will instead debut at Donington Park’s second round in April with a single NGTC Chevrolet Cruze for the team boss
Ducati test seat a step forward – Pirro
December 26th, 2012
Michele Pirro insists joining Ducati as a test rider does not represent a backward step even though it will leave him without a full-time race programme for the first time in more than a decade. The Italian competed for Gresini in MotoGP’s CRT class in 2012, effectively finishing best of the rest behind Aspar duo Aleix Espargaro and Randy de Puniet.
Espargaro: Beating de Puniet was huge
December 18th, 2012
Aleix Espargaro insists beating Aspar team-mate Randy de Puniet was just as rewarding as becoming the first winner of MotoGP’s new CRT class. While the 23-year-old Spaniard had just 21 MotoGP races to draw upon before 2012, de Puniet entered his seventh straight year in the top flight at the start of this season
Ferrari says Massa supports penalty call
November 18th, 2012
Ferrari says Felipe Massa fully backs its decision to deliberately give him a gearbox penalty for the United States Grand Prix in order to boost his team-mate Fernando Alonso’s Formula 1 championship hopes. Massa falls from sixth on the grid to 11th as a result of the move, while Alonso is elevated from eighth to seventh. A statement from Ferrari expressed the team’s gratitude to Massa, and emphasised that the Brazilian was in total agreement

Vergne, Ricciardo have Red Bull chance
November 2nd, 2012
Scuderia Toro Rosso duo Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo have been told that they have a genuine chance of a seat at Red Bull in the future, provided they impress next year. Vergne and Ricciardo both had new deals announced in the build-up to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, after a rookie campaign where both have shown flashes of promise. Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes that the pair are ‘real talents’ – but said they will only get the chance of a step up to a Red Bull seat if they show real potential
Snegirev returns to Formula 2
April 23rd, 2012
Max Snegirev will compete in the rest of the Formula 2 Championship, starting at the Algarve circuit next weekend. The 24-year-old Russian finished 18th in the series last year, but has started 2012 in Auto GP and missed the F2 season-opener at Silverstone earlier this month as it clashed with the latter championship’s Valencia event. “I am pleased to return to Formula 2 this year and look forward to driving the updated car,” Snegirev said.
ELMS forced to cancel Zolder round
April 2nd, 2012
A lack of entries has forced the organisers of the European Le Mans Series to cancel the second round of the championship, which was to be held at Zolder on May 20. Just 21 cars took part in the opening race at Paul Ricard last weekend and only 19 entries were registered for the Belgian race. Following a meeting between ELMS promoter Patrick Peter, ACO vice president Pierre Fillon, FIM WEC general manager Gerard Neveu and ACO sports director Vincent Beaumesnil (ACO Sports Director) at Ricard, and in consultation with the teams, it was decided to write off the event
FIA expects 2013 exhaust rule changes
March 11th, 2012
Formula 1 race director Charlie Whiting has admitted that further adjustments to the sport’s exhaust regulations are likely to be required for 2013 to stop teams finding ways of replicating the effect of the blown diffuser. Changes to the rules this year are aiming to make it impossible for exhaust gases to be directed in a way that helps the underfloor aerodynamic performance, but there have been suggestions that some teams are finding ways to achieve a similar effect within the revised rules
Vergne: STR7 instantly impressive
February 10th, 2012
Jean-Eric Vergne says he instantly felt comfortable in Toro Rosso’s STR7, which he is confident will give the squad a good base for the forthcoming season. Although the Frenchman has little race experience in Formula 1 he has tested several times for both Toro Rosso and Red Bull – including a three-day stint for the championship-winning team in last year’s Abu Dhabi young driver tests. He says that experience has bolstered his conviction that the team has a strong starting point with their 2012 design.

Brazil Sunday quotes: Pirelli
November 27th, 2011
Paul Hembery: “This didn’t turn out to be the race that most people expected, with the predicted rain holding off. At the last race of the season there were a few mechanical issues for some cars, but our tyres were completely reliable – as they have been all year, with no structural failures – and we achieved our objective of having a performance gap of less than a second between the compounds, which should be the case next year as well
Brazil Friday quotes: Pirelli
November 25th, 2011
Paul Hembery: “This weekend is our last chance to test our new compounds until official testing starts in February, so we intend to make the most of it. We’ve got some reasonably significant changes planned for next year.
Di Resta: No Q3 lap the best strategy
November 12th, 2011
Paul di Resta says his decision not to run in Q3 will give him an “optimum strategy” to score points in tomorrow’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Scot decided against going out in the final qualifying segment in order to save tyres for the race
RBR says curfew rules need tweaking
September 27th, 2011
Red Bull Racing believes that Formula 1′s curfew regulations still need tweaking after the controversy at last weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix. Several F1 personnel were caught out by the timetable in Singapore and broke F1′s curfew – with Red Bull Racing, Mercedes GP and Virgin Racing all initially being told that they had used up one of their ‘jokers’ in the process. After complaining to the FIA and proving that the marketing personnel who had entered the track had nothing to do with the operation of the car, it was agreed that the outfits had not breached the rules.

Sato still chasing an F1 return
October 9th, 2009
Takuma Sato says he is determined to return to racing in 2010 – and that he will only look at options beyond Formula 1 when all hopes of a grand prix drive have been exhausted. The Japanese driver has not raced since his Super Aguri team folded before the 2008 Turkish Grand Prix, and he missed out on a Toro Rosso seat for this year after a winter testing shoot-out with Sebastien Buemi and Sebastien Bourdais. Sato has attended several IndyCar races and been linked to a seat with Gil de Ferran’s planned team
