Razia hits out at Calado after crash

GP2 Series joint points leader Luiz Razia has criticised the driving tactics of title rival James Calado after their incident in the Spa sprint race that resulted in Razia suffering a 150mph spin. Stewards investigated the opening lap incident, which happened at the kink on the Kemmel Straight , but decided no action was necessary. Video footage shows that Razia was drawing alongside second-placed Calado, but was not completely level with him
Green heads first Zandvoort practice

Jamie Green topped the opening DTM practice session at Zandvoort on Friday thanks to a fast final-minute effort in his HWA Mercedes. The British driver’s 1m33.427-second lap hauled him up from fifth place and knocked Spaniard Roberto Merhi off the top spot by 0.226s.

Kimi Raikkonen was left ruing the mistakes of qualifying on his return to Formula 1 race action as the Finn admitted that the Australian Grand Prix felt just like old times. The Lotus driver began the season-opener at Melbourne’s Albert Park from 17th on the grid but forged his way into the points to finish seventh.
Hamilton: Schumacher move dangerous

Lewis Hamilton was left frustrated after he was unable to complete his final run in qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, labelling his incident with Michael Schumacher as dangerous. The Briton did not cross the finish line in time to start another run after he was overtaken by Mark Webber and Schumacher during his warm-up lap.

Newey: Vettel wants to win in style

Sebastian Vettel’s spectacular overtaking move on Fernando Alonso to take the lead of last week’s Italian Grand Prix is proof that he wants to win the world championship in style, according to Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey. The German passed Alonso at the exit of Curva Grande on the fifth lap at Monza, running onto the grass at an estimated 160mph to make the move. Newey believes that Vettel could have waited until the first round of pitstops to pass the Ferrari driver, but that the runaway world championship leader was happy to take the lead the hard way.
Liuzzi blames Kovalainen for crash

Tonio Liuzzi said he was “just a passenger” in the first-corner carnage at Monza – for which the HRT driver was judged responsible and given a five-place grid penalty for the next race in Singapore. Liuzzi’s HRT collected Vitaly Petrov’s Renault and Nico Rosberg’s Mercedes at the first chicane after spinning down the grass, causing a traffic jam that delayed many other drivers. But though the stewards decided that Liuzzi was to blame, he said he had been squeezed onto the grass by Lotus driver Heikki Kovalainen

Paul di Resta has admitted that he was surprised by his advantage in DTM qualifying at Brands Hatch, where he stormed to pole position on Saturday. The Scot topped all four segments of qualifying, and his advantage was so great in the pole position deciding Q4 session that he was able to take pole despite running wide onto the grass coming out of the last corner.

Plato win takes title decider to finale

Jason Plato ensured that the outcome of the British Touring Car Championship will be decided in the final race of the season as he clinched his second win of the day at Brands Hatch. The 2001 champion was outsprinted by Tom Chilton off the line and sat on the tail of the Arena Ford Focus until two laps from the end, when the RML Chevrolet driver nudged his rival slightly wide at Druids and slipped by for his seventh win of the season. Fabrizio Giovanardi, who had latched onto Plato at the start, then passed Chilton three corners later, making his move stick at Hawthorn Bend after previously being elbowed onto the grass exiting the preceding bend at Surtees.
