Allmendinger gets Detroit outing

Penske has expanded AJ Allmendinger’s IndyCar programme to include next month’s outing in Detroit. Allmendinger originally signed to drive the team’s third car at the Indianapolis 500 before adding Barber and Long Beach to his schedule. Penske confirmed on Friday that he will now also participate in IndyCar’s first double-header of the season.
Mercedes to bide time over leadership

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff says he is now happy to bide his time over any further management tweaks after his team’s successful start to the 2013 Formula 1 campaign. The future of team principal Ross Brawn has been the subject of great intrigue ever since Mercedes signed McLaren technical director Paddy Lowe to join it next year in a senior role. But with Brawn’s future tied in to the fortunes of the team, Wolff says Mercedes’ two pole positions and two podiums in the early rounds mean there is no pressure to make rash decisions about longer term tweaks
McLaren refuses to switch focus to ’14

McLaren team principal Martin Whitmarsh will continue to resist calls from his outfit to switch efforts to its 2014 car, even though this year’s title hopes are slipping away. The Woking-based team’s poor start to the campaign has already left Jenson Button and Sergio Perez facing an uphill task to keep themselves in the hunt for the championship. But Whitmarsh is reluctant to abandon the 2013 campaign yet, as McLaren waits to see how much performance it gains from a big upgrade package for the Spanish Grand Prix.

8Star Motorsport expands, enters ALMS

The 8Star Motorsports squad is gearing up for the arrival of the new United SportsCar Racing championship in 2014 with a move into the American Le Mans Series LMPC class and an expansion of its Grand-Am attack. Florida-based 8Star, founded by Venezuelan amateur driver Enzo Potolicchio to compete in Grand-Am this season, will next month take delivery of a second Pratt & Miller-built Coyote-Chevrolet DP, which is due to start racing in the summer.
Penske: no qualms over Allmendinger

Penske team president Tim Cindric says the squad has no qualms about bringing AJ Allmendinger back into the fold after his 2012 drugs test failure. Allmendinger has been hired to drive Penske’s third IndyCar entry at Barber Motorsports Park and the Indianapolis 500. The 31-year-old American moved to NASCAR in 2006 after a successful Champ Car career, only to be suspended last year for failing a drugs test while racing for Penske’s Sprint Cup squad
Allmendinger revels in IndyCar test

AJ Allendinger returned to the wheel of a single-seater for the first time in more than six years on Tuesday when he joined Penske for the IndyCar test at Sebring. Allmendinger was a five-time race winner in Champ Car before switching to stock cars in late 2006, although he was suspended by NASCAR and released by Penske Racing after testing positive for a banned substance last summer
JRM to field Nissans in Blancpain series

The British JRM Racing squad will field two Nissan GTR-Rs in the 2013 Blancpain Endurance Series. JRM, which last year competed in the World Endurance Championship with an HPD ARX-03a LMP1, is entering the Blancpain to showcase the 2013-specification Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3, which it has jointly developed with Nissan motorsport arm NISMO.
Ferrari presents the F138 in Maranello

Ferrari has presented its F138, the car with which the Italian squad hopes to return to championship glory in the 2013 Formula 1 season. The car, whose name is a combination of the current year and a tribute to the V8 engines that will be used for the last time this season, is the 59th grand prix single-seater produced by the Maranello-based squad. The F138 has been developed in the Toyota windtunnel in Cologne following Ferrari’s decision to shut down its own unit in order to upgrade it.
Allison will remain with Lotus – Boullier

Vettel, Red Bull crowned at FIA gala

Sebastian Vettel and his Red Bull team collected their FIA world championship trophies in Turkey on Friday night – with boss Christian Horner adamant his outfit was better this year than it has ever been. Vettel was presented with the F1 world drivers’ championship trophy, and Horner the constructors’ award, by FIA president Jean Todt at the organisation’s prize gala in Istanbul. Reflecting on the campaign, Vettel and Horner did not hide from the fact that the season has been incredibly challenging as rivals Ferrari took the title fight all the way to the final round of the season in Brazil

Concorde Agreement still weeks away

Concorde Agreement discussions between Formula 1 teams, the FIA and F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone look set to drag on for at least a few more weeks on the back of the latest meeting to try and reach a consensus. ELMS to link up with Renault package

George resigns amid takeover bid

Tony George has resigned from his position on the board of directors of Hulman & Company, owner of IndyCar, to avoid a conflict of interest as he progresses with an attempt to regain control of the series. George created what was then called the Indy Racing League as a rival to the CART Indycar series in 1996, triggering the destructive US single-seater split that lasted until 2008
