Guimaraes joins British F3 grid

Felipe Guimaraes has joined Fortec Motorsport to contest the British Formula 3 International Series. The 22-year-old Brazilian, a race winner in South American F3 this season and a podium finisher in A1GP, will drive the Dallara-Mercedes campaigned so far this year in European F3 by Dmitry Suranovich and Ed Jones. Guimaraes, who has also raced in GP3, Formula 3000 and Indy Lights, is currently in the middle of a two-day test at Pembrey alongside Fortec’s European F3 regulars Felix Serralles, Josh Hill and Pipo Derani.
Bourdais rejoins Starworks for Daytona

Sebastien Bourdais will rejoin the Starworks team for the 2013 Daytona 24 Hours. The four-time Champ Car champion and Le Mans 24 Hours podium finisher is set to team up with Ryan Dalziel, Alex Popow and Allan McNish in the Starworks Riley-Ford. Bourdais contested three mid-season Grand-Am races with Starworks last year, winning at Indianapolis alongside Dalziel and Enzo Potolicchio.

Binder replaces Serenelli at Lazarus

Rene Binder will make his GP2 debut at Spa this weekend with the Lazarus team. The 20-year-old Austrian has replaced Venezuelan backmarker Giancarlo Serenelli and will partner Sergio Canamasas at the squad.
Kox and Martin to miss Slovakia

Peter Kox and Maxime Martin will miss this weekend’s FIA GT1 World Championship event at the Slovakiaring. The pair, who drive for the Reiter Lamborghini and Valmon Aston Martin squad respectively, have prior commitments to race in ADAC GT Masters, which is holding its third round of the season at the Sachsenring in Germany. Reiter has signed Porsche Supercup podium finisher Stefan Rosina to replace Kox
Bacheta takes Algarve pole

Luciano Bacheta sealed his first F2 pole position in the first qualifying session at the Algarve. The Brit sat out the first fifteen minutes of the session, employing a tactic used to such great effect by 2011 champion Mirko Bortolotti, allowing him to take to the track for his one and only run on a clear circuit. On his third flying lap he set his quickest time, before returning to the pits to sit out the rest of the session, nervously watching the timing screen.

Week Four of the iRacing.com Skip Barber Racing School Premier Series kicked-off in the small town of Braselton, Georgia, home of Road Atlanta. The 12 turn, 2.54 mile road course proved to be an exciting and challenging configuration for the 84 sim racers who competed this week as some new names and upsets filled the podium positions in the five official online races of the week. The first race of the week during the 10:00 GMT timeslot produced the most exciting finish of the week. Clos joins HRT as reserve driver

GP2 front-runner Dani Clos has joined HRT as its reserve driver for the upcoming Formula 1 season. The 23-year-old Spaniard drove for the team at last November’s young driver test at Yas Marina, and has now signed a deal that will involve him taking part in several Friday free practice sessions during the year.
Ellison set to return to MotoGP

James Ellison is set to make his MotoGP return after a five-year absence in 2012 after signing for Paul Bird’s new claiming rules team. It has not been decided what chassis the 31-year-old Briton will race, but it will be powered by an Aprilia RSV-4 engine.
Dillmann joins iSport for Yas Marina

Tom Dillmann has completed iSport’s line-up for the non-championship GP2 races at Yas Marina next weekend. The 22-year-old Frenchman tested for the squad at Barcelona last month and will join Marcus Ericsson, who announced he will stay with the team for the 2012 season on Tuesday. “Tom has shown great pace and capacity to learn in the recent tests and has demonstrated that he is ready to move up from the GP3 Series,” said team principal Paul Jackson.
Bakkerud killed in car crash

Former single seater and sportscar racer Christian Bakkerud died yesterday as a result of injuries sustained in a car crash on Saturday. The 26-year-old UK resident sustained severe brain damage in the crash, which took place in Wimbledon on Saturday evening.
Carroll to make Auto GP debut

Adam Carroll will compete in Auto GP for the rest of the season after joining Campos Racing. The 28-year-old Northern Irishman, who has not raced full-time for three years, will make his series debut at Donington Park this weekend

Buller not worried by test pace

Will Buller is confident there is “more to come” from him and his Fortec team, after finishing the first official British Formula 3 test of the new season at Rockingham nearly a second adrift of Carlin’s pacesetter Felipe Nasr. Northern Irishman Buller was a podium finisher in his rookie F3 season with Hitech Racing last year, before switching to Fortec for the Macau Grand Prix and a second season in British F3 this year
