Loeb on brink of New Zealand win
June 23rd, 2012
Sebastien Loeb remains on course for Rally New Zealand victory as the arrival of the forecast rain on the final morning failed to shake up the order. Citroen requested on Saturday night that its drivers Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen halt their close battle and hold station in first and second through Sunday’s stages, which allowed Hirvonen – who only had inappropriate hard tyres left for the wet stages – to take it very easy, letting Loeb pull 17.4 seconds clear
Loeb claims 70th WRC victory
April 29th, 2012
Sebastien Loeb claimed the 70th victory of his incredible World Rally Championship career, and stretched his points lead in the process, as he cruised home to win Rally Argentina. The eight-time champion’s weekend had got off to a messy start as he spun three times on Friday morning and fell to fourth place
Loeb closes in on Argentina victory
April 29th, 2012
Sebastien Loeb remains on course for the 70th win of his World Rally Championship career after making it safely through the series’ longest stage on Sunday morning in Argentina. With Citroen having asked Loeb and second-placed team-mate Mikko Hirvonen to hold position on Saturday, there were no upsets on the 65.74-kilometre Matadero-Ambul stage that kicked off the final day. Despite the team instruction, Hirvonen inadvertently closed to within 0.2 seconds of taking the lead from Loeb on the following Mina Clavero/Giulio Cesare stage, before backing off again and letting his team-mate re-establish a 1.3s cushion on El Condor/Copina, the final stage before midday service.
Loeb leads into final day in Argentina
April 28th, 2012
Sebastien Loeb will lead Rally Argentina by 7.2 seconds when the final leg commences on Sunday morning after an uneventful run through the superspecial that closed Saturday night’s action. Although day three kicks off with the challenge of the mammoth 65-kilometre Matadero-Ambul stage, Loeb looks secure in the lead with Citroen having asked him and second-placed team-mate Mikko Hirvonen to hold station given the lack of threat from behind.
Solberg leads Ford superspecial sweep
April 27th, 2012
Petter Solberg took the early Rally Argentina lead as Ford dominated the Thursday evening superspecial that kicked off the event. On a cold and wet evening, Citroen’s choice of hard tyres proved to be a significant disadvantage, with works drivers Sebastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen ending the 6.04-kilometre stage back in eighth and 11th places respectively, both over 10 seconds off the lead. Ford went for soft tyres and swept the top five positions, with factory driver Solberg leading his temporary team-mate Dani Sordo – substituting for the injured Jari-Matti Latvala – by 3.6s.
Loeb wraps up another Mexico win
March 11th, 2012
Sebastien Loeb stretched his World Rally Championship lead by clinching a sixth consecutive Rally Mexico victory. The Frenchman led team-mate Mikko Hirvonen in Citroen’s first one-two of the year, having taken the lead from the Finn mid-way through leg one and then pulled away thereafter.
Hirvonen leads after Latvala drama
March 9th, 2012
Citroen’s Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb have moved ahead in Rally Mexico after erstwhile leader Jari-Matti Latvala sustained broken suspension on the morning’s final stage. Latvala (Ford) had been edging away from the Citroen duo prior to the stage five incident, which cost him nearly two minutes and saw the Ford fall to eighth place.
Solberg takes early Mexico lead
March 9th, 2012
Petter Solberg followed up his fastest time on the Rally Mexico qualifying stage with a win on the short Guanajuato street stage that opened the event on Thursday evening. The Ford driver was 0.4 seconds quicker than second-placed Sebastien Loeb’s Citroen. The whole top 10 was within 1.9s over the one-kilometre stage, with Mads Ostberg putting his Adapta Ford third, just ahead of Mikko Hirvonen in the second works Citroen, Jari-Matti Latvala’s Ford and Ott Tanak’s M-Sport Ford.
