IndyCar driver Simon Pagenaud will spearhead a 10-vehicle line-up from Honda at this year’s Pikes Peak hillclimb. The US arm of the Japanese manufacturer, which is also a sponsor of the event, has announced plans to enter 10 vehicles across nine classes. Pagenaud’s entry and racing class is yet to be confirmed, however the vehicles will be developed and driven by other American Honda associates racing under the HPD and THR (Team Honda Research) banners.

Formula 1 teams have been told to be careful about using driver physios for any car duties, including holding out the pit boards, in case it risks a breach of staff number limits. Coming into force from the start of this season, F1 teams are restricted to a total of 60 operational staff at each event.

Ferrari needs to have a car quick enough to win the United States Grand Prix next weekend if it has any chance of keeping Fernando Alonso’s championship hopes realistically alive, says team president Luca di Montezemolo. Alonso reduced Red Bull rival Sebastian Vettel’s points lead to 10 by finishing second in Abu Dhabi on Sunday , but the ultimate points gain was disappointing considering Vettel had started last after being thrown out of qualifying

FIA GT World Series titles are set to be awarded on the basis of points scored in Stephane Ratel’s new-for-2013 GT Sprint Series and his Blancpain Endurance Series next season. Ratel proposed such a plan in July , and has now revealed that he has reached an agreement in principle with FIA President Jean Todt for competitors in the two series to compete for manufacturers’ and teams’ titles. He formulated the plan following his decision not to continue running the FIA GT1 World Championship after the end of this season.

Jean Todt insists his role as FIA President should not be a dictatorship which ‘erodes’ the value of Formula 1. On the eve of a Paris meeting between the FIA, FOM and the teams, aimed at framing a new Concorde agreement, Todt said the FIA would not surrender control of key issues but that it must also remain ‘respected’.

The Asian Le Mans Series will be opened up to GT 300 entries from the Asian Super GT Series for its inaugural season in 2013. The Automobile Club de l’Ouest and the GTA – the respective promoters of the two championships – confirmed that GT 300s would be eligible for the GTC category of the Asian Le Mans Series’ first season. Both parties will work on technical solutions in order to balance performance with other GTC entries, and will collaborate on individual calendars in order to avoid clashes and ensure Super GT teams can compete in both series.

Derek Warwick, the president of the British Racing Drivers’ Club that owns Silverstone, has asked for fans to be ‘patient’ in the wake of the weather problems that have overshadowed the British Grand Prix weekend. With waterlogged campsites and car parks leading to a breakdown of the traffic system on Friday, Silverstone advised fans with normal parking tickets to stay away from the venue for qualifying day in a bid to ensure that race day could be got through without major trouble. The traffic problems have left Silverstone facing intense criticisms about its lack of contingency planning for the conditions, but Warwick reckons the venue did all it could – and could never have predicted the record-levels of rain that hit the venue earlier this week

Fernando Alonso says he is not wasting too much time thinking about potential future team-mates, as he downplayed speculation linking Sebastian Vettel with Ferrari. Team boss Stefano Domenicali fuelled rumours about a possible move for the German when he said Alonso and Vettel would have no problems coexisting at the Italian squad.

Chrysler will return to endurance racing later this year after the manufacturer announced a new racing programme for the SRT Viper in the American Le Mans Series. Felipe Massa faces a crunch year in 2012 to prove his place at Ferrari as he bids to put another disappointing campaign behind him. Although Ferrari has reiterated that Massa will remain a part of the team next year, despite ongoing speculation that his place could be under threat, the outfit is eager for the Brazilian to rediscover the form that helped him fight for the title as recently as 2008. Speaking at the Ferrari World Finals at Mugello last weekend, Domenicali told the official Ferrari website: “I am counting heavily on Felipe’s will to fight back as he knows next year will be a key one in which, and I’m convinced of it, he will be able to show his true worth.
