Fry sidelined by appendicitis

Ferrari technical supremo Pat Fry will miss the rest of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend after being diagnosed with appendicitis. Fry was taken to hospital in Barcelona on Saturday morning after visiting the Ferrari team doctor amid the suspicion that he was suffering either from kidney stones or appendicitis. The latter was diagnosed and Fry is undergoing a routine operation during the afternoon.
Renault unsure about engine problems

Renault is unsure of the cause of the engine problem that led to Sunday’s Formula Renault 3.5 running to be reduced as a precaution. Second qualifying and race two were reduced in length at Aragon last weekend as a reaction to several cars suffering high oil consumption in race one, causing reliability issues. Renault and its FR3.5 engine partner Zytek have started an investigation into the problem, the cause of which was not immediately clear in Spain.
Ferrari identifies Alonso DRS fault

Ferrari says it has identified an unprecedented mechanical failure that caused Fernando Alonso’s DRS problem in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Alonso was running second when his DRS flap jammed open early in the race. He pitted for the issue to be rectified, but although Ferrari felt it had been fixed, it reoccurred as soon as he tried to deploy DRS again.

Ferrari feels DRS glitch cost Alonso win

Fernando Alonso could have won the Bahrain Grand Prix but for the DRS failure that forced him to make two unscheduled pit-stops, according to Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali. The Spaniard’s DRS rear wing stuck open while running second on lap seven, forcing him into the pits for emergency repairs. The problem recurred when he returned to the track however, forcing him straight back into the pits.

Marussia makes changes after crash

Marussia will be able to continue its pre-season testing programme at Jerez on Wednesday despite suffering a suspension failure that caused Max Chilton’s crash. The Formula 1 rookie encountered the failure when flat out on the approach to Dry Sack corner during the afternoon. The team confirmed to AUTOSPORT that it will run on Wednesday after some modifications are made to the rear suspension overnight to prevent a repeat of the problem.

Although the RB8 has proved to be one the fastest cars on Sundays , its chances of battling for victory have been compromised by its inability to get the most out of its tyres on Saturday .
