BMW Brazil eyes Spa race with Zonta

The Brazilian BMW team competing in new FIA GT Series is aiming to contest the Spa 24 Hours in July with a line-up including ex-Formula 1 racer Ricardo Zonta. BMW Team Brazil plans to take in the blue-riband round of the Blancpain Endurance Series on July 27/28 with a solo BMW Z4 GT3 as part of preparations for an eventual Le Mans 24 Hours assault.

Hughes replaces Zonta at Sumo Power

Warren Hughes will replace Ricardo Zonta at the Sumo Power GT team for this weekend’s round of the GT1 series at Sachsenring. The Briton will be joining Enrique Bernoldi in the revised driver line-up. Hughes had driven for the team during the 2010 season.

Zonta gives Lamborghini first pole

Ricardo Zonta claimed Lamborghini’s first pole position in the FIA GT1 World Championship at the new Navarra circuit in Spain. The former grand prix driver topped the times in the final section of the three-round qualifying session with a 1m36.118s laps aboard the best of the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Murcielago R-SVs.
Reiter Lamborghini wins at Spa

Former grand prix driver Ricardo Zonta and Frank Kechele claimed victory for the Reiter Lamborghini team in the main event at the Spa round of the FIA GT1 World Championship. Zonta led from the front row in his Lamborghini Murcielago R-SV, but eventually lost out to Xavier Maassen in the DKR-run Mad-Croc Chevrolet Corvette and Peter Kox in the Reiter sister car. Kechele overtook team-mate Christopher Haase, who was struggling with engine problems, straight after their pitstops and was able to take the lead from the Matech Ford GT driven by Thomas Mutsch after a late-race safety car – by which time Maassen and Jos Menten had retired the Mad-Croc Chevy with a puncture.

Maassen gives Mad-Croc Spa pole

Dutchman Xavier Maassen claimed his first sportscar pole position in qualifying for round five of the FIA GT1 World Championship at Spa. Maassen was second fastest aboard the DKR-run Mad-Croc Racing Chevrolet Corvette C6.R in the first qualifying segment, his new team-mate Jos Menten filled the same position in Qualifying Two and then Maassen topped the timesheets in Q3
Panis joins Matech Ford for Ricard
