  • Jason Lofing
    iRacing.com Series Writer
Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.

I was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1988 and moved to Midland, Michigan when I was two years old. I stayed there until third grade when I moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan and now I currently live in Naperville, IL where I'm attending Metea Valley High School as a 9th grader. In the past, I have participated in soccer and this year I plan on joining swimming or water polo. My family includes my 15 year old sister, a 7 year old sister and my mom and dad. I have been writing since 6th grade and have participated in many writing contests in my school and have received several awards for writing.
My fascination for motorsports began when I was nine. The first NASCAR race I watched on TV was the 2009 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway, won by Kasey Kahne. My favorite NASCAR drivers are Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Jimmie Johnson. I have watched all the races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series since 2010. I currently have three wins on iRacing, two of them in the Nationwide car at Daytona and one in the Street stocks at Charlotte. My favorite car and type of track on iRacing is the Nationwide Series (B Class) car and superspeedways.

I am a veteran sim racer who first started racing way back in 1993 on the SPRTSIMS section of Compuserve with a league who can trace themselves all the way to the present. Within that league I act as Chief Steward and try to bring the unique viewpoint that this experience gives me into my articles.
I have a BA (Hons) in Journalism and Editorial design and have been writing for seven years and currently cover the Lotus 79 CTC and Radical series alongside my freelance work. Living in the UK, as well as motorsports I love Photography, Arts and Crafts and reading.

I was born in Adelaide and we moved-out for Angle Vale for a few years until I was about 7 years old, when we moved to the Barossa Valley where I live now. I'm 19 years old and currently traveling back and forth weekly as I'm studying for a Diploma of Furniture Design and Technology.

I've always had a love for racing as my close family did some racing and we were always out at the local dirt track. I joined iRacing back in 2010 and slowly but surely got the hang of it as this is my first experience with sim racing and am loving it each time I race. I've won two SK Modified titles (almost had three in a row but finished P2 in 2011 S4), an inRacingNews Challenge championship (2012 S1 Mazda) and was also an AustralAsian Intel GT Series Finalist.
  • Nathan Aljoe
    Contributing Writer
Nathan's passion for motorsport first began in the late 1980s, captivated by the season in which Aryton Senna won his first F1 title with McLaren. Over the years his interest widened to include the British Touring Car Championship, World Rally Championship, NASCAR and various other forms of motorsport. Nathan began sim-racing in the mid 1990s using games developed by Papyrus. He later moved onto SimBim simulations such as GTR, GTR2 and GTR Evolution and has most recently joined the iRacing community.

When he's not working or sim racing, Nathan enjoys spending time and relaxing with his family. Other hobbies include going to festivals, tinkering with his car and doing up his house.
  • Austin Hartenfels
    Contributing Writer
Born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia, I have always had a serious passion for cars and motorsports. Hoping one day to become an automotive journalist for a magazine, I constantly crave the exciting competition that comes along with racing and sim-racing. Having participated in a mere test session in a Legends car at Old Dominion Speedway, I have not been able to get into any real-life competition . . . yet.

As a sim racer, my interests date back to "GTR Evolution." My goal is to have fun and win some races. I made it to Oval Pro in 2010, but did not become very successful. I enjoy any mixed road racing competition and love racing the Silverados around almost any track.
  • Jordan Hightower
    Contributing Writer
Jordan began sim-racing in 2005 with the NASCAR Racing 2003 Season sim and then joined the iRacing community in June of 2008. He hails from Fort Smith, Arkansas where he is currently enrolled at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith, after which he plans to attend the University of Arkansas to earn his MBA. Although he enjoys watching and playing basketball, most of Jordan's focus is on motorsports, particularly NASCAR: "Anything that burns gas and goes fast, I like."
  • Scott Kelly
    Contributing Writer
Born and raised in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area, Scott Kelly has had a love for motorsports ever since his father did the right thing by introducing auto racing into his life. No longer able to quench his need for speed by spectating NASCAR races on TV and watching dirt track stars slide around local tracks, Kelly eventually picked-up sim racing in his teens, wheeling cars found in Ratbag Games' "Dirt Track Racing" and "World of Outlaws: Sprint Cars" while also becoming introduced into multiple Papyrus sim-racing series. Joining the iRacing ranks in late 2011, Kelly set his sights on the short track racing he was familiar with, focusing on the sprint car, while also driving the Legends and street stock in multiple iRacing.com leagues.

Kelly brings not just his enthusiasm for racing to the highest-rated motorsports simulation, but also his B.A. degree in English; he covers the action seen in the iRacing.com Sprint Car Series, while also placing the spotlight on various leagues within the service. Enjoying his start to a career in motorsports journalism, Kelly also doesn't mind visiting victory lane from time-to-time.

O'Keefe has been sim-racing since 2005, starting on the Live For Speed simulator. After moving to iRacing in 2008, he was able to qualify for the NASCAR iRacing Pro Series (NiPS) in both 2011 and 2012. He will continue to compete and write about the iRacing.com Skip Barber Series throughout the coming year before taking another run at the NiPS in late 2013.

I was born in Florence, South Carolina in 1989 and have lived here my entire life. I've been around racing since I was a young kid watching with my dad on Sundays. In 2009 and found my local track, Florence Motor Speedway and started working for them as a PR guy the same year. At the end of that season, I started writing for RACE22.com, a Late Model Stock Car news site. In 2010, I picked up my first DSLR camera and started shooting races. To this day, I've experienced some of the best races from behind the camera.

I've been with the iRacing service since its public beta in 2008, back when the top oval car was the Late Model. I've been in over 500 races on the service with 70+ wins on both oval and road. My favorite car on the service is the Chevrolet Silverado. Darlington Raceway and Concord Speedway are my favorite tracks simply because everybody hates them.

Following the successes of his friends and family, George has since retired from real-world racing, where he is now a science and mathematics faculty member for several local community colleges. When George isn't grading laboratory reports or iRacing, he is performing at bluegrass festivals in the Northeast, making fishing lures, playing golf, and rooting for his beloved Baltimore Orioles.

Speed increases NASCAR programme

Scott Speed is adding up to 10 further NASCAR Sprint Cup events to his schedule after his recent top-10 finish at Talladega secured extra backing for his Leavine Family Racing Ford Fusion. The ex-Toro Rosso Formula 1 racer now plans to combine top-level US stock car racing with a Global Rallycross Championship campaign for the rest of the season. His ninth-placed Cup finish at Talladega and victory in the opening GRC event at X Games Brazil last month have boosted his chances of extra outings, including this week’s Charlotte NASCAR round.

Block slams Brazilian X Games venue

Ken Block has hit out at the organisers of last weekend’s Brazilian X Games, describing the Foz do Iguacu venue as the worst track he has competed on. Block and many other competitors were critical of the dust and grip levels during the first X Games rallycross event outside of Los Angeles. After making it to the final, Block was one of four drivers who failed to make it out of a first-corner shunt

Former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed has won gold in the rallycross element of the Brazilian X Games today. Speed, a rallycross rookie, upset the formbook by defeating a host of rally drivers and star names including Travis Pastrana, Ken Block and Tanner Foust. All three men were eliminated in an accident in the final

Get to Know: Steven Eszenyi

by David Ifeguni on March 25th, 2013

Although he's still looking for his first win in 2013 S1, Eszenyi is batting 1000 (as in 1000 points) and currently sits P19 in the Class A points.

If you look up improvement or persistent in the dictionary, you’ll probably find a picture of Steven Eszenyi. Steven has been on iRacing since July of 2010.  Statistically, he didn’t get off to a very great start. In 2010 he ran 217 oval races and three road races, and although he won a total of 17 times, his average incidents per race on the oval side was 8.21 and on the road side, 18.66. The 17 year old driver from Trumbull, Connecticut has definitely had a long and a rather messy road towards being one of the top drivers on the oval side of iRacing. In 2012, in Eszenyi’s words, “(I) decided to take this seriously” and he definitely got results. He started 931 oval races and earned 157 checkered [...]

iRacer Profile: Lee Ball

racing games

It’s common for sim-racers to sing iRacing’s benefits in making the transition from online racing to real world motorsports.  In Lee Ball’s case, you could almost say the process has worked in reverse.  The McLeansville, NC resident already had plenty of real racing miles under his belt when he joined iRacing in 2012.  So you could say he put the racing know-how and savvy he learned in karts, Limited Late Models and Late Models to use once he added iRacing to his resume. Then again, sim-racing has been a part of Ball’s repertoire from an early age – seven to be exact — when he contracted the virtual bug via NASCAR 96 . . . In any case, he sure proved to be a quick study on iRacing, winning the [...]

Week 2 Darlington Fixed P1

Darlington Raceway is considered by many to be the most difficult track on the NASCAR circuit which leaves some drivers running for cover while others embrace the challenge. Trying to tame “The Lady in Black” has been a challenge for NASCAR competitors since 1950. Names such as Petty, Pearson, Waltrip, and Earnhardt have all graced the famed track’s victory lane and now an up and coming NASCAR star along with a two time NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship champion each added their name to the list of winners at the famed raceway during Week Two of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (fixed setup). Ray Alfalla (Florida) took the checkered flag in his ProGeek Consulting Silverado under caution after leading 30 of the race’s 35 laps in the 4439 Strength [...]

Get to Know: Nick Del Campo

by David Ifeguni on January 21st, 2013

190
It took Del Campo three days to notch his first iRacing win. He's been on the fast track to victory lane ever since.

This week, I interviewed a driver who is no stranger to painting cars on iRacing.com. Along with racing the cars on iRacing, he also paints them. As the owner of N.D.D (Nick Del Campo Designs), he paints cars on iRacing as well as real world racecars. Many people know him for the signature lime green logo he places on many of the cars he paints, and if you haven’t guessed by now, the driver I interviewed for this week, is Nick Del Campo. For some iRacers, it might have taken weeks or even months until they got their first win on the service. Nick Del Campo took three days. He scored his first win on October 16th of 2010 in the Legends car at South Boston Speedway, and since then [...]

Berry Blisters Miami

1500+ iRacers towed their Silverados to South Florida for Week 3 of the NiCCS.

The third week of online racing in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (fixed setup) sent the online racers to South Florida for some action at Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Put up against 1,548 sim racers proved to be no challenge to JR Motorsports Late Model driver Josh Berry (Mid-South). Berry dominated Week Three’s high Strength of Field event, leading an impressive 32 out of 45 laps enroute to a 0.594 second margin-of-victory over North Carolina native Brad Wright. Week Three’s NiCCS open setup weekly winner Kenny Humpe (Ohio) finished in the third postion 0.781 seconds back. Richie Davidowitz (New York) came home in the fourth position and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Scott Speed (Carolina) rounded out the top five. Berry’s victory enabled him to earn the most championship points for [...]

Jimmie Johnson claimed his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole of the 2012 season with a record-setting lap at Kentucky Speedway. The five-time champion set the benchmark of a delayed qualifying session with a lap of 29.700 seconds, at an average speed of 181.818 mph

Martin takes third Cup pole of 2012

Veteran Mark Martin claimed his third NASCAR Sprint Cup pole position of the season in qualifying for Sunday’s race at Dover. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver, fastest in opening practice on Friday, went out last on track and beat the benchmark set by six-time Dover winner Jimmie Johnson by just five thousandths of a second. Martin not only set the pace in practice and then in qualifying, but also looked one of the most consistent drivers on long runs during the final practice on Friday afternoon, as MWR still seeks its first victory of 2012.

Ricciardo: Red Bull no extra pressure

Daniel Ricciardo says the fates of past Red Bull proteges who have not lived up to expectations do not put any added pressure on him – as he is already extremely hard on himself. Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne are moving into the Toro Rosso race seats this season after predecessors Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari became the latest Red Bull young drivers dropped for not making the grade, as Tonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed had been before them. But asked by AUTOSPORT if Red Bull and Toro Rosso’s reputation for ruthlessness awed him, Ricciardo insisted it did not create any pressure that he would not have been putting on himself already

Davis, Speed, van Gisbergen Shine in iPRoC

Davis and Speed lead the iPRoC field to the start at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Scott Speed and Shane van Gisbergen won the battles, but Brandon Davis won the war in the inaugural iRacing.com Pro Race of Champions (iPRoC).  The first online event featuring an all star cast of 27 real world professional drivers from most of the world’s top race series, the iPRoC saw former F1 and NASCAR driver Speed take the victory in the opener, a 25 lap race for virtual Chevrolet Silverados at Charlotte Motor Speedway.  Australian V8 Supercar standout Van Gisbergen responded with an equally impressive run in the finale, leading all ten laps at Watkins Glen International in his digital Mazda MX5. But it was NASCAR K&N Pro Series’ Davis, who finished .345s behind Speed at Charlotte and .167s behind van Gisbergen at the Glen who picked-up the overall win [...]

Speed secures 15-race Cup deal

Scott Speed has signed a deal to enter 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup races next year with new team Leavine Family Racing. The ex-grand prix driver, who made 13 Cup starts for Whitney Motorsports this year, hopes to help the team gain competitiveness as it expands for its second season of racing. “I am excited to team up with Bob Leavine and his guys at Leavine Family Racing,” Speed said.

Gilliland Grabs Georgia Victory

December 8th, 2011

94
More than 1,600 iRacers answered the call at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Adam Gilliland was one of the busiest drivers during Week Four of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) at the Atlanta Motor Speedway . . . and also one of the successful, as he captured the top split of the week. Gilliland is a regular at GSRacing.net and is racing to capture the NiCCS title in 2011 Season Four. Gilliland’s big win will go down as a 4767 Strength of Field (SoF) of victory in which he led just a single lap in the online racing event. Gilliland got past Kevin King on the final circuit to take the victory. Chris Overland came home in third, followed by Allen Krier and Bryan Blackford. King led the most laps (27) of any of the nine leaders, who exchanged the lead [...]

Buchberger Best Overall at Homestead

by Tim Terry on November 28th, 2011

1,400+ iRacers traveled to South Florida for a week of NiCCS online racing.

Over 1,400 sim racers brought their skills to the track for Round Three of the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) in 2011 Season Four at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. When all the dust settled after thousands of laps had been completed and the motors were silenced, it was Sugar Grove, Illinois, Brandon Buchberger who stood tall as the driver who amassed the most points amongst his peers. The race in which Buchberger captured his 212 point total for the week was Thursday’s 3362 Strength of Field (SoF) affair. Buchberger led just the final eight circuits of the 90 completed and outlasted Byron Daley, Scott Speed, Tyler Hudson and Alex Warren to take the win. Speed led the most laps in the race (78) and was one of just three drivers [...]

Scott Speed will return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup when he attempts to qualify for Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Speed will join the Max Q Motorsports team to drive a Ford Fusion from this weekend’s race in Indianapolis

Kimball fastest, Carpentier crashes

Charlie Kimball was quickest for Ganassi in morning practice ahead of Bump Day qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, as the cars fighting for the final nine spots in the field came to the fore. Neither of Ganassi’s new second team cars made the top 24 cut yesterday, with Kimball edged out near the end of the day, and his team-mate Graham Rahal struggling with engine and fuel issues.
