Loeb takes secure lead into final day

Sebastien Loeb will start the final day of Rally Argentina with a 39.8-second lead over Sebastien Ogier. A mistake on SS7 and puncture on SS8 left Ogier half a minute adrift of Loeb and convinced him to settle for second place . Ogier’s Volkswagen outpaced Loeb’s Citroen by half a second in their head-to-head on the evening superspecial that closed Friday’s action, but that made scant impact on the overall standings

Sebastien Loeb moved into the Rally Argentina on stage seven as Sebastien Ogier made a mistake and dropped to third. Loeb had promised to take the fight to Ogier on day two and immediately started gaining on his arch-rival on the opening Santa Rosa stage.

Dani Sordo set the fastest time on the qualifying stage for the Rally of Portugal, with World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Ogier in second place. Citroen’s Spanish star built on his Fafe Rally Sprint victory last Saturday with scratch time at the three-mile stage close to the rally’s Faro base.

Sebastien Ogier completed his domination of Rally Mexico as he wrapped up victory and a maximum score on Sunday’s final loop of stages. Ogier had a scare after the morning’s opening Guanajuatito stage when he had to spend 20 minutes fixing a sensor issue on his Volkswagen.

Sebastien Ogier survived a scare with a closed gate on SS18 of Rally Mexico to take a near three-minute lead into the final day. The dominant Volkswagen lost half a minute on Otates when Ogier encountered a gate that had been closed across the stage prior to him coming through. He had to stop so that co-driver Julien Ingrassia could open the gate and let them continue.

The Finn’s DS3 WRC was seven tenths of a second up on M-Sport Ford driver Evgeny Novikov. Novikov’s fellow Fiesta RS WRC drivers Thierry Neuville and Mads Ostberg were joint third quickest, 3.2s down from Hirvonen’s benchmark

Sebastien Loeb’s Monte Carlo Rally lead grew to 1m35s on Thursday afternoon as main rival Sebastien Ogier insisted he was happy to let the Citroen win. With Loeb only contesting four rounds this year, Volkswagen driver Ogier is adamant that he “doesn’t care” if his compatriot beats him provided his full-season rivals are behind. Ogier is achieving his goal comfortably at present, with a 1m03s cushion over Dani Sordo’s third-place Citroen.

Sebastien Loeb utterly dominated the second loop of Monte Carlo Rally stages, with his lead confirmed as 1m20s when timing problems were finally resolved. The running order had been unclear for over three hours due to problems with new provider SIT’s timing system on stage three. When accurate results were eventually published, teams’ estimates that Loeb now held a 1m20s advantage proved correct.

Sebastien Loeb moved past Sebastien Ogier to take the lead of the Monte Carlo Rally at the end of the opening loop. Ogier had announced the new Volkswagen’s potential in emphatic fashion by setting the pace on the World Rally season’s first stage , Le Moulinon to Antraigues. But Loeb restored the usual order by going quickest on Burzet to St Martial, beating Ogier by 10 seconds.
