Prodrive working on 2015 Dakar entry

Prodrive has confirmed it is working on a Dakar entry for 2015. The British-based firm has already completed initial modelling work for a car, but it’s not yet known whether the project will become a manufacturer car entry or a Prodrive buggy. Prodrive staff members were present in South America in January , reporting back on what was needed for the firm’s first assault on a cross-country rally car.
Loeb rules out 2014 Dakar bid

Sebastien Loeb has quelled speculation that he will contest the 2014 Dakar Rally in a Red Bull squad alongside Carlos Sainz and Nasser Al-Attiyah. Al-Attiyah confirmed his team would be running a third buggy in South America next January and added that Loeb would be an ideal candidate for the seat.
Dakar to visit Bolivia in 2014

FIM says CRTs to stay on in 2013

MotoGP will continue to run CRT machinery in 2013 but could be set for a change thereafter, with Honda ready to supply more affordable prototype machinery. That is the belief of FIM president Vito Ippolito, who said that his objective of getting existing factory teams to supply cheaper prototypes could yet be met by Honda.
Ezpeleta sure Argentina will be ready

MotoGP commercial chief Carmelo Ezpeleta is confident that the Termas de Rio Hondo track will be ready for grand prix motorcycle racing’s return to Argentina in early 2013. The venue is currently only used for domestic racing and will require a substantial upgrade before it can host MotoGP next year. The event organisers were present at this weekend’s Dutch TT to provide an update on progress
Tost: Formula 1 is better than ever

Scuderia Toro Rosso team principal Franz Tost has described Formula 1 in 2012 as “the best” he has seen. Tost, a former Austrian Formula Ford Champion, believes that the unpredictable opening four races of the season has made the sport more appealing. “The present F1 is the best F1 I have seen so far,” Tost told AUTOSPORT.
Sordo to test Ford Fiesta RS

2013 Dakar Rally to start from Peru

The 2013 Dakar Rally will start from Peru for the first time in its history, organisers announced on Wednesday. The 35th edition of the event will stay in South America for the fifth consecutive year, starting on January 5 and finishing on January 20th. For the first time in its history, the Dakar will take to the desert from the first days of the rally.
Roberto Mieres dies aged 87

Peterhansel relieved to win again

Stephane Peterhansel has admitted that he was starting to fear he would never reach a 10th Dakar Rally victory before winning this year’s event. The 46-year-old Frenchman had previously won the rally nine times – six in motorcycles, and three times the car category – but last triumphed in 2007, before the rally’s move to South America

Solberg tops Catalunya shakedown

The World Rally Championship title rivals were overshadowed by Petter Solberg and Federico Villagra in this morning’s shakedown stage for the Catalunya Rally, which begins in Salou this evening. Solberg’s Citroen DS3 WRC was quickest of all across the two-mile mixed-surface test, but it was Argentinian driver Villagra who hit the headlines with an exceptional second quickest in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
Block: Argentina stages toughest ever

Ken Block has described the stages on Rally Argentina as some of the hardest he will ever drive on. American Block is making his return to the world championship in South America after missing the last two events in Jordan and Italy following the birth of his third child, a son Mika. “The second stage on Friday, is probably the roughest, most difficult stage you’ve ever been on,” said the Monster World Rally Team pilot.
IRC loses Argentinian round

The Intercontinental Rally Challenge has cancelled its planned second round in Argentina, the Rally de los Alerces, after the event ran into funding difficulties. Series boss Marcello Lotti said the door was open for the Alerces rally, which would have been making its IRC debut this year, to appear on future schedules if it could resolve its issues.
Double R signs Derani for 2011

Luis Felipe ‘Pipo’ Derani will drive for race-winning team Double R in British F3, after becoming the squad’s first signing of 2011. The Brazilian will graduate from the German F3 Cup, where he finished 10th for Motopark Academy in 2010. A multiple karting champion in South America, the 17-year-old also raced for Motopark in the Formula Renault North European Cup in 2009 before moving into F3.
X-Raid enters Mini for Dakar

Mini will contest next year’s Dakar with an All4 Racing developed and run by the Monster Energy X-Raid team. The car, which has been built in just 90 days, will be driven by Dakar expert Guerlain Chicherit. The project was first discussed in the summer of 2009, when X-Raid team director Sven Quandt began looking at the feasibility of the project.

Kubica: Spa chances hinge on F-duct

Robert Kubica believes Renault’s chances of a strong showing in this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix will depend on how well it can get its F-duct running. The French car manufacturer is introducing its blown wing concept for the first time at Spa-Francorchamps – at a track where the straight-line speed boost it provides could be a big help. And Kubica reckons that the advantage the F-duct brings – especially in terms of allowing teams to run more downforce without suffering a drag penalty – will be key to a successful weekend.
World Cup Goes Down to the Line

With the start of Week Ten in the third season of the World Cup of iRacing, three races for the regional championships are coming down to the line. The Northeastern Region has seen back and forth fights for the top spot between New England and New York over the past week. In the Southeastern Region South America has taken over the top spot from the Mid-South. The third regional battle that will be neck and neck at the end of the 12 week season is the Central European Region, where Italy is currently holding-off the DE-AT-CH Club (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). In the Northeastern Region, New England holds the top spot by 83 points; the narrowest margin of all the battles for the Regional Season Club Championships (RSCC) in Season Three. [...]
