Neal wins ahead of charging Shedden

Honda salvaged a difficult opening weekend to its 2013 British Touring Car campaign with a one-two in the reversed-grid race three. Despite both starting on the new soft tyre, which was expected to degrade, Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden came through to make amends for their problems earlier in the meeting. Neal’s Civic got away well from row two, crucially jumping the harder tyre-shod cars of Adam Morgan (Ciceley Toyota) and a slow-starting Sam Tordoff (works MG) to run second behind Mat Jackson’s Motorbase Ford Focus.

Hot rod champion targets BTCC switch

Multiple hot rod champion Carl Boardley is targeting a move to the British Touring Car Championship in 2013 and will test with Speedworks Motorsport this week. The 36-year-old, who is a four-time hot rod world champion, will drive a Speedworks-run NGTC Toyota Avensis at Snetterton on Friday as he targets a switch. “Our aim of getting on the 2013 BTCC grid is a serious one,” said Boardley, who is also a race winner in the British Pickup Truck Racing series

Morgan to race with family-run team

British Touring Car racer Adam Morgan will leave Speedworks Motorsport to run with his own family team Cicely Racing in 2013. Cicely ran Morgan to the BTCC-supporting Ginetta GT Supercup in 2011 and the series prize helped him into the BTCC. Morgan finished 19th in the BTCC standings this year in Speedworks’ Toyota Avensis, but father Russell Morgan has now purchased the similar car used by Frank Wrathall in 2011 to run under the Cicely banner
Shedden claims title as Smith wins

Gordon Shedden clinched his first British Touring Car title in a wet second race at Brands Hatch, taking second behind new BTCC winner Aron Smith. The rear-wheel-drive WSR BMW of Tom Onslow-Cole jumped into the lead at the start, with Smith’s Motorbase Ford and Matt Neal’s Honda battling for second.
Onslow-Cole captures pole in thriller

Tom Onslow-Cole took pole position in a thrilling British Touring Car session on the Brands Hatch GP circuit. Onslow-Cole’s WSR BMW suffered a broken throttle cable at the start of the session, while Jason Plato’s works MG and then Andrew Jordan’s Eurotech Honda Civic set the early pace. After a red flag, caused by Chris James (ES Racing Vauxhall Vectra) going off at Surtees, championship contender Matt Neal moved to pole in his Honda Civic.
O’Neill back in at Speedworks

Gordon Shedden topped a wet first British Touring Car free practice session at Thruxton this morning. Mat Jackson’s Motorbase Ford Focus set the pace early on before Jason Plato (works MG6), Shedden and his Honda team-mate Matt Neal all took it in turns to top the times. Neal set a sequence of 1m22s before Shedden recorded a 1m20.968s half-way through the session to put him a second clear of the field

Mat Jackson took Motorbase Performance’s first victory with the Ford Focus in the reversed grid British Touring Car round at Donington Park this afternoon. The race was marred by several accidents, which started even before the pack got to the first corner, when the fast-starting Dave Newsham lost control of his Geoff Steel Racing BMW on the grass, spun and hit the Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis of Tony Hughes. Poleman Alex MacDowall (RML Chevrolet Cruze) led into Redgate, but Tony Gilham’s Triple 8 Engineering Vauxhall Vectra touched Tom Onslow-Cole’s AmD Milltek VW Golf while squabbling over second
Newey hospitalised after Ginetta crash

Red Bull Racing technical director Adrian Newey has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks after an accident in a Ginetta G50 race at Snetterton today. Newey was driving a guest car in the British Touring Car Championship event when he was spun into the path of another car. After a heavy side-on impact, he was removed from the car by stretcher.
