The Mercedes Formula 1 team has confirmed that Nick Fry will step down from his current role as CEO at the start of next month. As revealed by AUTOSPORT earlier on Friday, Toto Wolff will increase his responsibilities within the team while Fry retains a consultancy role for Mercedes

Euronova will bring Yoshitaka Kuroda into Auto GP for the 2013 season. The 26-year-old came over to European racing with Euronova two years ago, and competed first in Formula Abarth and then in Italian Formula 3. He joins compatriot Kimiya Sato in an all-Japanese line-up at Vincenzo Sospiri’s team, having already tested the previous generation Auto GP at Barcelona last December.

Sebastien Bourdais will rejoin the Starworks team for the 2013 Daytona 24 Hours. The four-time Champ Car champion and Le Mans 24 Hours podium finisher is set to team up with Ryan Dalziel, Alex Popow and Allan McNish in the Starworks Riley-Ford. Bourdais contested three mid-season Grand-Am races with Starworks last year, winning at Indianapolis alongside Dalziel and Enzo Potolicchio.

Red Bull has announced that it has dropped Lewis Williamson from its junior programme, replacing the Scot with GP3 racer Antonio Felix da Costa. Williamson was only 5 races into his career as a fully-fledged Red Bull Junior, after first becoming involved with the energy drinks firm on the eve of his GP3 campaign in 2011. He was brought into the scheme fully for 2012, and placed into Formula Renault 3.5 with category newcomer Arden Caterham

IndyCar has imposed a maximum rear wing profile for this weekend’s race at Iowa in the hope of reducing downforce and putting more emphasis upon driver skill following the success of similar measures at Texas two weeks ago. The series has imposed a maximum rear flap angle of 37 degrees with no gurney flap allowed for the race. It believes will cut downforce by between eight and nine per cent.

Mercedes says discussions about it signing up to a new Concorde Agreement are edging forwards, despite continued speculation about its future in the sport. The German car manufacturer is the only frontrunning outfit that has not agreed a deal that will commit it to F1 from the start of next year, amid rumours that it could quit the sport or take its owners CVC to the European court. Red Bull Racing is offering Formula 1 fans the chance to get their photographs on its car at this year’s British Grand Prix as part of a charity effort. Following the success of a similar initiative in 2007, fans who make a donation to the team’s Wings for Life project can upload a picture of themselves, which will be put on to Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber’s cars for the Silverstone weekend.

Luiz Razia has joined Arden International’s GP2 line-up for the coming season. The Brazilian returns to the team with which he took his first steps in GP2 during the 2008-09 Asia Series, which yielded a race victory for the partnership at the Sakhir season finale. “I want to thank all the team for their trust in me and I will do my best to make sure we achieve the success that we all want,” said Razia, who finished 12th in the 2011 standings with Team AirAsia

Tom Kimber-Smith will remain with Greaves Motorsport for next year’s Le Mans Series. The 27-year-old Briton enjoyed a successful 2011 season, taking LMP2 honours at the Le Mans 24 Hours and the class title in the LMS as well, and will partner Alex Brundle in the team’s Zytek-Nissan in 2012.

Steve Addington has been named as the new crew chief for NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart. Just a week after clinching his third Cup title alongside crew chief Darian Grubb, Stewart has now appointed Addington to the role within his Stewart Haas Racing organisation.

Red Bull’s advisor Helmut Marko has warned the team’s rivals that it plans to continue its domination of Formula 1 into 2012. Sebastian Vettel clinched his second world championship title in as many years after finishing third in Sunday’s Japanese Grand Prix, and Marko said afterwards that he believes the team is well placed to go for a hat-trick next season. “We are just going from race-to-race and of course we want to win as many as possible,” the Austrian told the BBC .

The FIA Institute has boosted its Young Driver Excellence programme for 2012, offering 18 places on its global training scheme. Twelve drivers were selected for this year’s pilot programme, but such has been the success of the current drivers, the Institute has elected to add a further six spaces to the 2012 intake.

Graves Motorsport duo Tom Kimber-Smith and Olivier Lombard were elated with their performance in Le Mans, after their Zytek-Nissan dominated the LMP2 class to win by more than seven laps. Britain’s Kimber-Smith, who first raced in Le Mans in 2007 with Panoz but hadn’t been back since, insisted the team’s strategy of a low-risk approach to the race had paid dividends.

Shanghai has agreed a deal to host Formula 1 races until 2017, ending months of speculation about the future of the Chinese Grand Prix. Although work still needs to be completed on the circuit for it to pass an FIA safety inspection ahead of this year’s race, the Shanghai Sports Bureau has announced that a fresh deal has been agreed for the event. Zhao Wen, vice mayor of Shanghai, told local media on Wednesday that officials had managed to negotiate a reduced rate for the event in a bid to keep it on the calendar.
