Spies joins Pramac for 2013

Ben Spies will remain a MotoGP rider in 2013 after agreeing a switch into a newly-established Ducati satellite squad. The American will be joined at the outfit by Italian Moto2 race-winner Andrea Iannone.
Stoner ‘hoped for more’ from updates

MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner has admitted he was disappointed with the results of the upgrades Honda brought to the post-race test at Mugello. Stoner will only use his team’s new engine at Laguna Seca this weekend , whereas team-mate Dani Pedrosa will ride Honda’s revised chassis as well. But Stoner said he was not convinced by the updates and had hoped for more – while acknowledging that the new engine was a step forward
Ducati riders get updates for Laguna

Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will have access to a selection of updates in this weekend’s US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca, Ducati has confirmed. The Italian manufacturer had originally planned to introduce a new engine for the first of two US races, but has now decided to instead phase in its upgrades over the coming races
Abraham may miss Silverstone

Karel Abraham may be forced to miss MotoGP’s race at Silverstone as a result of the hand injury he suffered during the recent test at Mugello. Abraham suffered a number of falls during testing – among them a massive high side at Casanova – and damaged his hand in the process
Alonso sure upgrades are working

Fernando Alonso is optimistic that he can improve in Spanish Grand Prix qualifying on Saturday after finishing practice two in 14th position at Barcelona, 1.201 seconds behind Jenson Button, who was fastest. The Spaniard was quickest in first practice but was unable to capitalise in the second session after failing to get a clear lap on soft tyres.
Massa questions value of Mugello test

McLaren set to switch to higher nose

Team principal Martin Whitmarsh says McLaren is likely to switch to the new high nose design it trialled on the final afternoon of in-season testing at Mugello. The new nose is far higher at the front than the original design, and features significantly longer pillars – effectively bringing it far closer to the stepped designs used by the rest of the field.

Gonzalez gets Caterham Mugello run

Rodolfo Gonzalez will drive the Caterham on the first day of next week’s Formula 1 test at Mugello. Gonzalez, who drives for Caterham’s GP2 squad, had previously tested for the squad in the young driver sessions in 2010 and ’11, when it was still known as Lotus. Domenicali hopes for late surge

Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali remains optimistic that his team can mount a late surge in the 2012 Formula 1 title race even if it endures a tough start. The Italian squad’s technical chief Pat Fry predicted at the end of winter testing that podiums could be out of reach following a difficult build-up. Domenicali acknowleged that Ferrari might get off to a low-key start, but argued that this did not mean the whole year would be a write-off
