Bottas says Williams updates working
May 10th, 2013
Valtteri Bottas declared that his upgraded Williams felt the best the car had all year in Friday practice for the Spanish Grand Prix, but still was unsure if the performance gain would be enough. After failing to score a point in the opening four races, Williams has brought a major development package to Barcelona. It remained open-minded, however, saying it also had a ‘plan B’ option if these changes did not pay off

Loeb, who will compete in the event for the first time this year, drove the car at a test track in north-west France earlier this week. The nine-time World Rally Champion said: “I’ve never driven anything that accelerates so fast

March 15th, 2013
Pastor Maldonado admitted he has been surprised by the lack of performance from his Williams team in Melbourne, conceding the British squad is far from the leading cars. Although Williams had high hopes for the start of the season, both Maldonado and team-mate Valtteri Bottas struggled for pace in Friday practice for the Australian Grand Prix.
Red Bull duo downplay practice pace
March 15th, 2013
Red Bull drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber have played down the team’s dominant start to the Australian Grand Prix weekend in free practice. World champion Vettel set the pace in both sessions on Friday , which included his fastest lap coming on the third lap of a run on the high-degradation supersoft tyre. Webber made it a Red Bull one-two in the afternoon, but both drivers made it clear they were not getting carried away with the performance of the RB9
Mercedes insists tyre issues now gone
March 13th, 2013
Mercedes’ issues with tyre management are a thing of the past, insists the team’s technical chief Bob Bell. While the 2013 Formula 1 Pirellis have proved more predictable in behaviour than their predecessors so far, degradation has been an issue for all teams. Mercedes struggled particularly badly in early 2012 when last year’s rubber had a similar habit

Laverty sure of PBM bike potential
March 1st, 2013
Michael Laverty says he is already convinced of the potential of Paul Bird’s new in-house MotoGP chassis despite only seriously running in the final afternoon of the three day Sepang test. Problems incorporating the standard Magnetti Marelli electronics into the new bike meant Laverty was effectively a bystander over the first two days at Sepang, but he was able to get out in the final afternoon and finished 22nd fastest. With team-mate Yonny Hernandez – riding an Aprilia chassis – four places back, Laverty believes the in-house PBM machine has already demonstrated its potential

Webber wants RBR to cure understeer
February 5th, 2013
Mark Webber believes Red Bull will have to work on reducing understeer on its RB9 after the first day of pre-season Formula 1 testing at Jerez. The Australian said that the new car felt similar to the 2012 RB8 that won both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, but he added that the team had areas to work on before testing resumes on Wednesday morning. “The car was very understeery today, so we need to improve that tonight and get it a little more responsive,” Webber told reporters at Jerez
Pirelli: Tyre entertainment vital for F1
January 24th, 2013
Pirelli chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera would be delighted if his company delivers a repeat of the unpredictable racing witnessed at the start of 2012. The wide-open start to last season, featuring seven different winners from the first seven races, drew criticism in some quarters, with the tyres’ behaviour famously described by Michael Schumacher as ‘like driving on raw eggs’
Marko: Alonso’s approach too political
January 8th, 2013
Sebastian Vettel beat Fernando Alonso to the 2012 Formula 1 title because his Ferrari rival meddled too much in politics and psychological warfare, reckons Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmet Marko. Reflecting on the 2012 world championship battle in the latest edition of Red Bull’s in-house magazine the Red Bulletin , Marko argued that Alonso got distracted by off-track aspects while Vettel focused solely on driving
