Monte Carlo Rally route revised for ’14

The Automobile Club de Monaco has announced a revised route for next year’s World Rally Championship opener, with Gap replacing Valence as the starting venue. Valence has hosted the event – as both a WRC and Intercontinental Rally Challenge round – for the last seven years
Unwell Ogier forced to miss Fafe

World Rally Championship leader Sebastien Ogier has withdrawn from this weekend’s Fafe Rallysprint due to illness. The Fafe event is the traditional non-championship curtain raiser to the Portuguese WRC round, which takes place later this month. Ogier said he wanted to rest to ensure he was fully fit for the main event.
Audi to send two e-trons to Sebring

Audi will kick off its 2013 LMP1 prototype campaign with an assault on the Sebring 12 Hours. Audi has firmed up its intention to contest the opening round of the American Le Mans Series on March 16 with a pair of R18 e-tron quattros, even though the race is not part of the World Endurance Series this season.
IMS to pay tribute to Wheldon

Indianapolis Motor Speedway will pay tribute to reigning Indy 500 champion Dan Wheldon with a series of events leading up to next weekend’s race. Wheldon, who was fatally injured in an accident at the 2011 IndyCar season-finale at Las Vegas in October, took the lead of last year’s race at the final corner after Panther Racing’s JR Hildebrand brushed the wall. It was his second victory at the 500.
NASCAR changes Shootout criteria

Next year’s NASCAR Shootout will return to the traditional format of featuring pole-winners from the previous season. NASCAR’s non-championship curtain-raiser, held at Daytona the weekend prior to the track’s 500-mile Sprint Cup season-opener, has used a variety of different eligibility formats in recent years.
BMW reveals first DTM livery

BMW has unveiled the first of the liveries it will run during its DTM campaign this year. One of the six M3 DTMs will run in the green and blue colours of its backer Castrol EDGE, rather than the traditional BMW corporate livery of the past 20 years. DTM champion Martin Tomczyk and long-time Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler have joined BMW for the coming season to partner long-time factory drivers Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus, Joey Hand and Dirk Muller, all of whom are switching over from GT racing.
‘Minute’s noise’ mooted for Simoncelli

Marco Simoncelli’s father Paolo has requested that a ‘minute of noise’ is held during this weekend’s Valencia Grand Prix in memory of his son, rather than the traditional minute’s silence. Simoncelli died when he crashed on lap two of the Malaysian Grand Prix and was struck by the following bikes of Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi. His funeral took place in Coriano last Thursday.
BTCC open to Snetterton layout switch

Snetterton’s British Touring Car Championship round may switch from its new ’300′ circuit in the future, according to series director Alan Gow. The circuit plays host to the next round of the series on what will be the BTCC’s first visit since the Norfolk venue underwent a complete revamp, with a new infield loop being constructed to form the ’300′ layout

Ferrari announces late January launch

Ferrari has announced that it will launch its 2011 car in the final week of January, ahead of the first official test of the year that starts in Valencia on February 1. Although a majority of outfits are expected to unveil their new challengers in Valencia, which is the first of four pre-season tests, Ferrari is expected to follow tradition and reveal its new car at Maranello once again. The team has not committed itself to a set date yet for the launch, but has confirmed that the car has already passed a series of mandatory crash tests.
International F3 series created for ’11

The FIA has announced the creation of a new Formula 3 International Trophy for the 2011 season, encompassing classic events such as the Pau and Macau street races, as predicted by AUTOSPORT magazine last month. Drivers registered for the various national F3 series will be able to score in the new international contest, which will use the Formula 1-style 25-18-15-etc top 10 points system. The top three drivers in the final classification will qualify for the superlicence required for F1, putting the F3 International Trophy on a par with Formula 2
IndyCar Adjusts Qualifying Procedure

JOLIET, Ill. — The Indy Racing League has revised its qualifying procedure for the four IZOD IndyCar Series oval events that will close the 2010 season as a result of expanding entry lists. The second sentence of Rule 8.2(F)(1) is amended and reads as “A qualifications attempt is the total of two consecutively timed laps.” The remainder of the oval qualifying rules remains unchanged.
Priaulx confirmed for ROC again

Three times World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx will join Formula 1 championship leader Jenson Button in AUTOSPORT Team Great Britain in this year’s Race of Champions. Priaulx has twice reached the semi-finals of the traditional end of season event, which this year moves from Wembley to the Bird’s Nest stadium in Beijing.
