Cecce Tops Late Model Tour
by Tim Terry on November 21st, 2012
The NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Tour (NiLMT) has spawned some great champions of this virtual sport and with the drivers and teams of this series visiting a diverse set of tracks in 2012 Season Four, it would be no surprise to see the top drivers from this season move on to the upper echelons of the iRacing simulation. In fact, in the first three weeks of the season, the series would visit three distinct tracks and produce three different winners when the points were handed out at the end of each week. Week One took place at the Lanier National Speedway bullring and when the final laps were completed, it was a Late Model veteran who stood tall amongst his 815 peers who took a green flag at the Georgia [...]
Saxon Sails to Top of Tour Modifieds
by Tim Terry on November 16th, 2012
In the first two weeks of the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified (NiTM) Series, Nathan Saxon has put the field on notice that he will be a contender for the title in 2012 Season Four. Saxon took top honors in the standings over the first week of the season at New Smyrna Speedway and followed it up with a strong podium run at Richmond International Raceway in Week Two. Saxon has been a member of the service since mid-2011, boasts a 4000+ iRating as of press time, is a member of Road Runner Racing team and spent 2012 Season Three focusing on the SK Modified division. Saxon’s Week One point total of 128 came during a 2104 strength of field (sof) race on November 3rd in which he took the checkered [...]
iRacer of the Week: Michael Conti
by David Ifeguni on July 9th, 2012
As most of us know, the iRacing population is mostly filled with adults. But there are also plenty of teenagers and young kids who take part in sim-racing. Logically, if you compare adults to the overall youth on iRacing, the adults should run better and win more races based on the years of experience that the teenagers and kids lack. Yet, these teenagers and kids should not be underestimated just because of their age. I’m part of the youth group on iRacing and I have achieved a fair amount, including 16 top fives, six poles and a win at Daytona in 70 oval starts. There is one person though, who is leading the youth group and has taken iRacing by storm: Michael Conti. In two and a half years, the [...]
Parker Makes DARE Stock Debut Friday at Stafford
by Tim Terry on May 10th, 2012
Josh Parker, one of the most prominent oval racers on the iRacing service, is set to make his real racing, stock car debut at the Stafford Motor Speedway this Friday night (May 11). Parker (Exeter, RI) will be driving a DARE Stock race car out of the Rent a Racecar New England stable on Friday at the Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) as a part of their Weekly Racing Series program. DARE Stock race cars are powered by V8 motors built on American fabricated chassis that resemble their street counterparts. Parker, who drives online in the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC), practiced a DARE Stock car during the Spring Sizzler weekend and was set to make his maiden race laps in the car one week ago but rain halted the [...]
Brooks Best in Class C
by Tim Terry on April 29th, 2012
The season long battle between Justin Brooks and Heath Hindman for the NASCAR iRacing Class C Series (NiCCS) crown came down the final two weeks of the season. Hundreds of sim racers came out to test their skills at the Darlington Raceway and Kentucky Speedway in the final two rounds, but when the final laps were ran and the checkered flag fell on 2012 Season One, it was Brooks who would ultimately edge out Hindman for the prestigious title. Week Eleven of the series took the Trucks to the Darlington Raceway where Phil Juhring took the top spot over 400 others who took a green flag at the track “Too Tough to Tame.” Juhring’s big win of the week came during a 2801 sof race on April 10th in which [...]
Lambert Outlasts Late Model Field
by Tim Terry on April 28th, 2012
After 12 weeks of action and thousands of laps in the 2012 Season One iRacing Late Model Tour (iLMT) season, it was Mark Lambert who came out on top of over 3,100 drivers to become champion of the series. While he was relatively quiet in the last two weeks of his championship season, many others took the chance to make some noise in the final two rounds of the popular short track series. The final two weeks of the season took the series to the Bristol and Stafford Motor Speedways. When the series went to the Bristol high banks for Round 11, it was Tanner Stoops who took the checkered flag in the race to the top of the weekly standings. Stoops won three of the four races he ran [...]
Mungin Tops Tour Mods Mountain
by Tim Terry on April 25th, 2012
While James Poleske will go down in the books as finishing off 2012 Season One with the most points in the final two weeks of the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series (NiTMS) season, it will be Giovanni Mungin who will have his name etched on the championship trophy. Mungin was officially crowned the champion after the 12-week online racing season ended Saturday night, which is the fourth in the row for the Wide Open Racing team. Poleske was the one who put the most points up on the board in Week Eleven and Twelve competition at the New Hampshire Motor and Thompson International Speedway’s, respectively. The big race on the “Magic Mile” of New Hampshire Motor Speedway took place on April 12th in which Poleske led 11 of the 75 [...]
Mungin Marches Closer to Modified Crown
by Tim Terry on April 14th, 2012
Giovanni Mungin continues to inch closer to his first NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series (NiTMS) championship after a strong showing during Week Nine and Ten of the series. When the weekly points were awarded at the Milwaukee Mile and USA International Speedway, it was the championship hopeful besting all his nearest rivals at the top of the charts. Those performances brought him closer to the overall title, something he can see in the virtual windshield with just two weeks remaining in the season. The highest strength of field (sof) race for Round Nine took place on March 29th. The 75-lap online race at the Milwaukee Mile was set at 4293 sof and was so strong that the top five in this race would end up in the top five on [...]
Lambert & Smith Battle for Late Model Crown
April 13th, 2012
With the checkered flag in sight, the championship contenders in the NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Series (NiLMS) have begun to step up their game. One doesn’t have to look past the last two weeks in the series to see who will be battling for the title heading down to the wire. Heath Smith and Mark Lambert landed on the podium in the last two rounds of the series at the USA International and Martinsville Speedways, putting the iRacing short track world on notice that they want the championship in 2012 Season One. Week Nine of 12 on the series took the sim racers to Florida and the virtual USA International Speedway. Both Smith and Lambert made two starts on the week and each took home two wins but it was [...]
Class C Landscape Changes
by Tim Terry on April 13th, 2012
In past seasons, the top of the charts when it came to points in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) has been littered with Pro/Drivers World Championship drivers. With the exception of Ashley Miller’s 2011 Season Three title, each champion of the NiCCS Open Series has had roots running through the NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship (NiSWC), the top oval series on the online racing service. This season will be the second exception as A License drivers Justin Brooks and Heath Hindman battle for the top spot in the series with two weeks to go in 2012 Season One. Hindman took one step forward in his effort to lock down the title during Week Nine when he took the weekly win at the Martinsville Speedway. Hindman, an accomplished short [...]
Paquette Prime at Thompson
by Tim Terry on March 29th, 2012
Maxime Paquette has placed his bid for a late season push to the 2012 Season One NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Series (NiLMS) title after a strong showing during Week 8 action at the Thompson International Speedway. Over 700 sim racers hauled to the virtual Connecticut race track to showcase their short track skills on the high banks and when all the dust settled, it was St-Cesaire, QC’s Paquette who ended up on top of the weekly standings. Paquette scored two wins in three starts at Thompson, with his top win coming on March 24th during a 3018 strength of field (sof) race. One lead change transpired in the 50 lap online race when Paquette, who started third, took the lead from outside pole sitter Chase Raudman with 11 to go. [...]
Engelhart Brings Heat in Bristol
by Tim Terry on March 29th, 2012
Former NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series (NiTMS) champion Herb Engelhart made his presence known during Week Eight of the 2012 Season One campaign as he rocketed to the top of the weekly standings at Bristol Motor Speedway. Engelhart, who has been running a scaled back online racing schedule this season, topped 106 other sim racers in his effort to take the top spot in “Thunder Valley.” Engelhart’s triumph of the week came on March 22nd when he went to victory lane in the 100-lap feature on the high banks. Engelhart started third in the field and led 29 laps en route to the win. The race featured five cautions and five lead changes amongst five leaders. Only the top three finished on the lead lap with Richard Smith5 and Derrick [...]
Hindman Steals Class C Spotlight
by Tim Terry on March 28th, 2012
Heath Hindman has turned the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series into his own personal playground in the past two weeks. While other sim racers racked-up wins and top finishes at Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway, Hindman had the point picture in mind as he rocketed up to the top of the standings after the eighthh round of 2012 Season One. Hindman’s Week Seven triumph came on March 17th during a 3499 strength of field (sof) race at Pocono. Hindman led 15 of the 50 laps of the race after starting in 12th place and finished two seconds up on Craig Jernigan at the finish. Mark Wright was third, followed by Tony Monge and Richard Hillenburg. Mason Weitzel started on the pole and led four laps before falling to 15th [...]
Conover, Lambert Bid for Late Model Title
by Tim Terry on March 26th, 2012
With the second half of the 2012 Season One NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Series (NiLMS) campaign underway, championship contenders are beginning to emerge as the push is on to put together the best eight weeks to tally up to a title. Jeff Conover, an iRacing Late Model veteran and Mark Lambert, who has lit the lamp many times early in the season, have put in their bids to become the champ with their recent weekly wins during Rounds Six and Seven at the Iowa and Concord Speedways, respectively. Hundreds of sim racers came-out over the past two weeks to run at the two unique short tracks with the ultimate goal in mind – to take a checkered flag in iRacing’s most competitive short track series. Conover’s winning total for the [...]
Former Tour Mod Champs Flex their Muscles
by Tim Terry on March 22nd, 2012
Robert Sandt and Brandon Salvatore both know what it means to win a championship in the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified Series (NiTMS). Both have demonstrated speed and consistency in the past to win those prestigious online racing titles and in the past two weeks of 2012 Season One, both have shown strength to take away weekly wins. Sandt showed the way at the South Boston Speedway during Round Six while two-time and defending series champ Salvatore topped the field at the Phoenix International Raceway. Sandt scored two wins on the week at “SoBo,” with the big one coming in the top split of the week on March 7th. The race, rated at a 3734 Strength of Field (SoF), saw Sandt leading 81 of the 120 laps of a race slowed [...]
Kostecki King of Trucks
by Tim Terry on March 15th, 2012
The stars of the NASCAR iRacing Class C Series crossed the midway point of the 2012 Season One campaign following Rounds Five and Six at the Phoenix International Raceway and Bristol Motor Speedways, respectively. While the venues are very different from one another, one thing stayed the same over the two weeks. When all the dust settled, Brodie Kostecki stood above the rest as the weekly leader at both tracks! Kostecki led over 1,200 other sim racers in taking the weekly win at the Phoenix International Raceway during Round Five of the series. The 100-lap online race that put Kostecki over the top for the week came on March 4th during a 3964 Strength of Field (SoF) event in which Kostecki went to victory lane after leading 72 laps. Finishing [...]
Mungin Emerges at Tour Mod Title Contender
by Tim Terry on March 7th, 2012
Giovanni Mungin has proved himself as a championship threat after two strong weeks in the NASCAR iRacing.com Tour Modified (NiTM) Series. The Pennsylvania sim racer has lit-up the division, winning the last two rounds of the series at the Iowa and the Stafford Motor Speedways respectively. Mungin gained points during Round Four by winning the second highest split of the week when the series went to the Iowa race track. That race was rated at 3503 sof and saw Mungin lead all but one of the 100-laps in the race. Taylor Meyn was three quarters of a second back at the runner up spot with defending series champion Brandon Salvatore, Samuel Dick and Herb Engelhart completing the top five in the event. Two yellow flags and two lead changes set [...]
Lambert Leads Late Models Through Week Five
March 6th, 2012
Mark Lambert continues on a roll in the NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Tour as he has extended his point lead in the popular short track division through five weeks of online racing in 2012 Season One. With two short tracks as characteristically different as New Smyrna and Oxford Plains Speedways in the last two weeks of the season, it was Lambert who adapted the quickest, scoring big wins at both facilities in Weeks Four and Five respectively. While it was Lambert taking the highest strength of field (sof) win for the week at New Smyrna Speedway, it was second place finisher Max Paquette who took top point honors due to multiple starts by the point leader. Lambert’s win came in a 3070 sof race on February 23rd in which he [...]
Buchberger Best at Daytona
by Tim Terry on March 2nd, 2012
The series runner-up in 2011 Season Four in the NASCAR iRacing.com Class C Series (NiCCS) was top of the board when it came to the standings for Week Four in the 2012 Season One at the Daytona International Speedway. Brandon Buchberger took the top point total out of Daytona as 2,400 sim racers took to the repaved, virtual high banks to look for super speedway glory in Round Four of the online racing series. Buchberger’s win came during a 4012 Strength of Field (SoF) of race on Tuesday in which he led just nine of the 50 laps en route to the victory. Second place belonged to Frank Kimmel II while Jeremy Harrington, Wes Weidman and pole-sitter Stephen Moore completed the top five. Moore led the most laps in the [...]
“Hous” It From the Top
by Tim Terry on February 24th, 2012
Johnny Housley brought his “A” game to Toyota Speedway at Irwindale during Week Three competition in the NASCAR iRacing.com Late Model Tour as the Mid-South sim racer was standing tall atop the weekly points after seven days of racing at the California track. Over 450 took to the half-mile, multi-groove race track during Round Three of 12 as they tried to track down short track glory on the virtual California asphalt. Housley won a massive sof race on February 20th, which carried a rating of 3232 Strength of Field rating. How massive was this online race? The top four in this 75-lap race made-up four of the top five positions in the weekly standings! Housley had everything under control in this event, leading all 75 laps in the race and [...]
