iRacing & Partners Donate to Pinellas County Science Center- – Students Win!
by David Phillips on March 29th, 2013
Normally there would only have been one winner in the 2013 Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg: James Hinchcliffe, the first IndyCar driver to complete 110 laps of the 1.8 mile street circuit on Sunday. But thanks to the Science Center of Pinellas County and iRacing, this year’s racing produced scores of winners . . . and most of them aren’t even old enough to qualify a driver’s license. That’s because the Science Center has teamed with iRacing and other motorsports simulation leaders including Intel, Playseat and Logitech to develop programs designed to inspire students from Grades 6 – 8 in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Earlier this year, iRacing donated video monitors and software to the Science Center, and helped coordinate the involvement of the programs’ other technical [...]

2012 World Cup of iRacing Kicks-Off July 10-14
by Katier Scott on July 5th, 2012
Exciting New Format, Club DE-AT-CH Bid for 4th Title Highlight International Tournament They’ve won it three times, but will they triumph in this year’s battle for the World Cup of iRacing? “They” are the iRacers of Club DE-AT-CH (Germany-Austria-Switzerland) who will be challenged by iRacing’s other 36 international clubs in the 2012 World Cup starting on July 10. The competition kicks-off with four days of practice before the first of three World Cup Tournament qualifying rounds on the 14th of July. No doubt the Club DE-AT-CH will go into the competition as the favourites. But newly-formed UK and Ireland, and previous runners-up Carolina and Aus/NZ must be also in with a chance as the revised format attempts to even the playing field as much as possible. The new format means [...]
An Army of Two
by Glen Alden on July 4th, 2012
Ever think you would go from sim-racing to real racing? What about starting a racing business with a childhood friend who is serving overseas as we speak? Well that is what iRacer Josh Parker and long-time friend Mark Richards are doing. Richards Parker Racing LLC is now an official Dare Stock race team that will debut at Stafford Motor Speedway this Friday, July 6th. So how did this all come about? From childhood friends to one going into the Army, while the other sits at home, an 18-19 year old kid playing video games. Two ends of the stick, right? Well Josh’s life was basically working full-time, and then going home to iRace five or six nights a week. Putting-in hour-upon-hour on the sim, he racked-up some incredible stats and [...]
The iRacing.com Protest System – May, 2012
by Tony Gardner on May 11th, 2012
“Racing incidents happen.” — Nim Cross I must say that Nim’s statement is very accurate and profound. There have been literally thousands of forum strings, emails, video reviews, opinions and discussions over the years about how to deal with those cursed incidents and accidents on iRacing. Passionate discussions and ideas abound about the sporting code, safe driving, unsafe driving, intentional wrecking, blocking, sportsmanship, acceptable behavior, flaws in the protest system and ideas for more automation . . . to name a few. There have also been literally thousands of protests filed by concerned members regarding perceived violations of the iRacing sporting code by other members. In 2010, for example, there were 1,945 protests filed and 3,541 filed in 2011. Those numbers only include accepted protests in which we created a [...]
Rookie Oval Series Change in Season 2, Track Added to Base Content
by David Phillips on March 7th, 2012
Legends/Street Stock Swap Places; USA Speedway Joins List of Free Tracks In the real world, many oval racers start and enjoy long careers racin’ and rubbin’ on short ovals. There are many reasons for this including safety and financial considerations, not to mention a driver’s proximity to short tracks. iRacing has historically followed that progression from Rookie license class on short tracks all the way up to the Pro and World Championship license class. That is about to change, beginning in 2012 Season 2. Because the existing Ford Legends car is not suited for larger tracks, iRacing plans to move that series to the Advanced Rookie Level for 2012 Season 2, replacing it with the JR Motorsport Street Stock car at the Rookie License level. As always, all the cars [...]

by David Phillips on February 10th, 2012
Online Motorsports Service Rated Best Racing Game of All The editors, columnists and contributors of PC Gamer have named iRacing.com to the magazine’s list of the Top 100 Games of All Time. Not only did the PC Gamer “Brain Trust” rate iRacing.com 39th on the list, they ranked it as the top auto racing game of all time . . . “the ne plus ultra of PC racing technology.” But why listen to iRacing’s take on the matter. Let’s let PC Gamer do the talking. “If you need your sim racing to be accurate,” wrote Andy Mahood, PC Gamer sim columnist, “nothing touches iRacing. Used by professional and amateur racers as well as tens of thousands of gamers, this is the ne plus ultra of PC racing technology. (You may [...]

The Cadillac is the latest addition to iRacing’s impressive line-up of digital, high performance cars which includes the Williams-Toyota FW31, the HPD ARX-01c, Corvette C6.R and NASCAR Sprint Cup Chevrolet Impala, and is scheduled to add the McLaren MP4-12C and Lotus 49 in the coming months. “This is great news for iRacing and the online racing community,” said Tony Gardner, president of iRacing.com. “The performance of the real-world Cadillac CTS-V is truly astonishing, and I’m sure the more than 30,000 iRacers around the world will be eager to get their hands on our digital version of this world class car.” Based on the [...]
Daytona Past and Present
by David Phillips on January 13th, 2012
When it comes to Daytona International Speedway, iRacing will soon be offering its members the best of both worlds: Daytona past and Daytona present. Following the 2010 racing season, of course, the famed “Big D” underwent a $20 million resurfacing project. Although the primary focus was the 2.5 mile oval, the Bus Stop chicane and adjoining apron on Daytona’s 3.56 mile road course were also resurfaced. In keeping with its commitment to the accuracy of its digital race circuits, iRacing conducted a total rescan of Daytona following the repaving work and is in the process of rebuilding its version of the track. Although the “new” Daytona International Speedway will be integrated into iRacing’s various online racing series in February, the service will continue to make the “old” Daytona available to [...]

Improving the Sound of iRacing
by Tony Gardner on December 7th, 2011
Although iRacing.com is constantly adding new elements to our online racing service there are always many improvements we would like to make to our current features. One of those features is sound, which happens to be a very broad topic. When we think of sounds in a racing game, most of us think of the cars’ engine noises, and that certainly that is a focus of our work. We have some good ideas on how to improve those engine sounds and add more range. Of course, our objective is to be authentic when it comes to engine sounds — or any sound for that matter. That’s why we go to the track and record every car in iRacing, and also do things like taking sound meters to the tracks to [...]
Scanning What’s in Store for iRacing with Tony Gardner
by Nick Neben on November 18th, 2011
One of the biggest selling points in iRacing for me is the laser-scanned tracks. As a sim-racer I may not benefit from knowing each bump and nuance of the real-world track, but knowing what I am driving from my living room is accurate down to the millimeter to what I see drivers racing on TV and in person adds to my experience overall. This unique and authentic feel that you can only get from laser-scanning adds so much to each track within the iRacing service. Tony Gardner, president of iRacing.com, recently provided me with some insights to the process of how the company decided on laser-scanning, the process of signing tracks, what goes into the decision on what tracks are brought into the service for the members and the status [...]

by Kevin Bobbitt on May 5th, 2011
iRacing.com, the world’s leading online motorsports simulation service, announced today it is partnering with McLaren Electronic Systems to incorporate the ATLAS Express data analysis software into its system. As a result, iRacing’s more than 25,000 members will now have access to similar data acquisition and telemetry software used on every car competing in the FIA Formula One World Championship since 2008 and on NASCAR’s standard ECU (engine control unit) in 2012. iRacing.com Teams-up with JR Motorsports to Announce iRacing 2.0
by Kevin Bobbitt on May 3rd, 2011
The JR Motorsports No.7 Chevrolet, driven by Josh Wise, will race under iRacing.com colors in two NASCAR Nationwide Series events this summer in support of the all-new iRacing 2.0, the popular online racing service’s dramatic new software release. This long awaited release will add many user enhancements and features to the popular online, multi-player racing title and will once again set the bar as the premier racing simulation on the market. Wise’s No. 7 Chevrolet will don the iRacing 2.0 paint scheme in back-to-back races at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis and Iowa Speedway later this summer. This is doubly significant as iRacing.com has just signed agreements with both venues to build the facilities to exacting detail within the simulation. Wise will debut the No. 7 iRacing.com car during the [...]
No Obstacles Here
by Rick Savage on April 30th, 2011
I’m just another racer . . . These are the words you will hear Ryan Worley utter in his soft-spoken demeanor if asked about his experience with iRacing. You might think to yourself, ‘Much ado about nothing,’ until you have the chance to talk with this inspiring individual. You see, Ryan has a unique set of challenges when one thinks of sim racing, though you’ll never hear that from him. Quite the contrary… In fact Ryan is absolutely content with whom he is and wouldn’t change anything. He is 23 years of age and hails from the little town of Vaughn, located 60 miles southwest of Seattle, Washington. A member of iRacing since December of 2010, Ryan enjoys working on a farm with an ATV and follows professional bull riding [...]
Berry Bumps to Martinsville Win
by Jason Lofing on March 30th, 2011
Josh Berry emerged the winner at Martinsville Speedway after push came to shove in the final laps of last night’s NASCAR iRacing.com Series World Championship event. With half a dozen laps remaining, Berry came to a restart behind series leader Ray Alfalla, Thomas Hazard and Josh Parker. As Alfalla and Parker traded paint heading into Turn One, Berry got into Parker, sending him into the two leaders. The resulting wreck triggered the last of a series record 25 yellow flags and gave Berry the victory from Hazard and Parker. Chris Main and Brad Wright completed the top five as Alfalla fell to ninth at the finish. “The last restart . . . got crazy as I expected,” Berry said. “I was pretty much just watching Ray and Hazard dart all [...]
Power and Wilson Join iRacing.com for IZOD IndyCar Series
by Steve Potter on March 24th, 2011
At this weekend’s 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series season-opening Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, check out the helmets worn by last year’s first and second-place finishers, Will Power and Justin Wilson. Both are big fans of iRacing.com, the world’s most authentic driving game, and for 2011 each has revised his helmet design to prominently feature the well-known iRacing graphic. “Justin and Will have been active members of the iRacing community for a long time now,” said Tony Gardner, president of iRacing.com. “From our early days they’ve both been strong advocates of iRacing, so it’s nice to be able to take this relationship to the next level. We have a lot of IndyCar fans among our more than 25,000 members around the world and now they have an additional reason to [...]
