BT Sport gets MotoGP UK TV deal

BT Sport has acquired an exclusive five-year deal to broadcast MotoGP in the UK, taking over from the BBC from the 2014 season. All grands prix, qualifying and practice sessions will be shown live under the new deal, which was confirmed at a presentation in London’s Olympic Park on Thursday. BT Sport also plans to host full coverage of both Moto2 and Moto3.

Force India gets 2014 Mercedes deal

Force India has extended its agreement with Mercedes-Benz to use the German firm’s engines from the 2014 Formula 1 season onwards. The new deal means Mercedes will supply Force India with power units and KERS under the new regulations that will come into play from next year, when turbo engines will return to F1.
IndyCar keeps engine-change penalty

IndyCar’s engine-change penalty system will remain in place for the 2013 season, despite moves to change it. With the return of manufacturer rivalry under the new-for-2012 technical package, IndyCar ruled that drivers exceeding the five-engines-per-season limit or changing engines before the minimum mileage threshold must take 10-place grid penalties. This led to a large number of penalties through the year, most notably in Long Beach , where all Chevrolet-powered cars needed precautionary engine switches.
Risi Ferrari returns to the ALMS

Multiple GT champion team Risi will return to the American Le Mans Series for 2013 after a one-year hiatus. The team skipped last season having been unable to put a financial package together in time. It will be back this year with a single Ferrari 458 and has committed to 2014′s combined Grand-Am/ALMS championship too
Dragon scales back to a single car

IndyCar team Dragon Racing will scale back to one car for the remainder of the season after failing to secure a second full-time engine lease from Chevrolet. Under the new deal, Sebastien Bourdais will drive on the road and street courses, and Katherine Legge will take over for the oval events

The team has revealed its car on the cover of the latest edition of F1 Racing magazine, subscribers of which received their copies today. Stenhouse gets Roush Daytona seat

NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr will return to the Sprint Cup for the Daytona 500 in Roush Fenway’s #6 Ford. Stenhouse became the first man to win the Nationwide title under the new system in which drivers could only compete for one NASCAR series crown per year, ending the era of the second-tier championship invariably going to a Cup regular contesting a parallel schedule.

Audi has released drawings of the car it will base its DTM campaign around next year. The A5 DTM will be built to the championship’s new low-cost rules package and follows the trend set by series returnee BMW in using a coupe body rather than a saloon. “In 2012 new technical regulations will come into effect in the DTM,” said Head of Audi Sport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich

Raikkonen enters under Ice 1 title

Kimi Raikkonen’s 2011 World Rally Championship programme will run under the Ice 1 Racing name, as Citroen moves away from the Citroen Junior banner for its satellite entries. The 2007 Formula 1 world champion’s entry for Rally Sweden in a new Citroen DS3 was finally confirmed earlier this week, and has been lodged under the new title. Raikkonen’s fellow privateer DS3 WRC driver Petter Solberg has yet to firm up his team name for the season
Lotus to expand KV partnership

Lotus Motorsport will expand its IndyCar partnership with KV Racing in 2011 and has confirmed that it will design bodywork for the new-for-2012 next generation IndyCar Series rules. The company, which in its original incarnation won the 1965 Indianapolis 500, returned to American motorsport in a sponsorship and technical support deal with KV this season. The tie-up saw Takuma Sato running a classic green Lotus livery on his Dallara IndyCar for his rookie season.
VW to make ‘early’ decision on entry

Volkswagen motorsport director Kris Nissen says any decision by the German manufacturer to contest the World Rally Championship, will be made soon to avoid allowing other manufacturers to steal the march under the new rules. A decision on whether VW will come to the WRC is anticipated later this year, with Nissen saying the latest the announcement would be made is after next year’s Dakar in January. The German manufacturer is still completing its evaluation of the benefit of the sport.
