Whincup was fastest in qualifying and went even faster in the shootout to take pole position by nearly quarter of a second in his return to the Holden marque, with Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander alongside him after setting the second fastest time in both sessions.
IndyCar Racing in December
by David Phillips on December 23rd, 2009
The December weather at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway may be frightful, but that’s not preventing a delightfully enthusiastic band of iRacers from racing their Dallara Indy cars. Did we say enthusiastic? Add illustrious, at least in some cases. With names like Power, Wilson and Scheckter, Bettenhausen, George and Krisiloff the entry list reads like a Who’s Who of Indy car racing, past, present and yet to come. Some are active Indy car drivers, others the sons and grandsons of some of the sport’s most legendary and influential figures, still others are rank ‘n file members of iRacing.com with names like Simpson, Doyle and Cress. Call them what you want, they call themselves the 16th Street Racing League. Thanks to iRacing.com, they get together every Wednesday evening from as far away [...]

Whincup wins Barbagallo race one
November 21st, 2009
Team Vodafone’s Jamie Whincup drove a perfect race to take a comfortable victory in race one of the Bigpond 300 at Barbagallo. Using the sprint tyres at the start of the race, Whincup took the lead from team-mate Craig Lowndes at the start and made the most of his sprint tyres, stopping just before half-distance, his strategy leaving him comfortably clear of the field in the closing laps. Second was Todd Kelly who ran a similar strategy to Whincup after running fourth in the early running

November 21st, 2009
Team Vodafone’s Craig Lowndes took his first pole position since 2005 when he went fastest in the qualifying shootout for race one of the BigPond 300 at Barbagallo. Lowndes was fifth before the shootout but just hung on to pole position in the shootout, his team-mate Jamie Whincup just failing to beat his time by 0.0052 of a second after leading qualifying going into the shootout, the two Team Vodafone cars lining up on the front row of the grid. Still less than a tenth behind Lowndes were Jim Beam’s Steven Johnson and Holden Racing Team’s Will Davison in third and fourth, with Todd Kelly and Mark Winterbottom filling the third row of the grid

November 7th, 2009

Not too far away was his championship rival Will Davison who finished second, leading the opening part of the race before being passed by Whincup, just not quite able to match the winner’s pace
Bright takes pole for Island race one
November 7th, 2009
Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright took a dominant pole position in the top-ten shootout for the first race of the The Island 300 at Phillip Island. Alongside him on the front row will be Holden Racing Team’s Will Davison, who moved up from fifth in qualifying, one place ahead of championship rival Jamie Whincup who qualified third.
Lowndes takes win in race three
October 25th, 2009
Team Vodafone’s Craig Lowndes took a dominant win in race three of the Nikon SuperGP at Surfers Paradise as his team-mate’s championship lead took another significant hit. Lowndes led from start to finish, but it was team-mate Jamie Whincup’s crash on the second-last lap that may prove to be a significant moment in this year’s championship. With championship contender Will Davison limping around after damaging his steering early in the race, Whincup seemed on track to catch up most of the margin he lost to Davison following yesterday’s incident in race one
