Rally GB confirms 2013 itinerary

The itinerary for this year’s Rally GB has been revealed this morning – with Chirk Castle and Kinmel Park confirmed as stately home stages. The event is based on Deeside and runs through the forests of north and mid-Wales. Qualifying for the event will take place at Llandegla, 25 miles away from Deeside, while a second run through Clocaenog provides Sunday’s powerstage on the November 14-17 rally
Catalunya introduces night stages

The route for this year’s Catalunya Rally has undergone a significant change with the introduction of three night stages to open the October event. In a further change, the penultimate round of this year’s series will also shift its gravel stages from the first to the final day of the rally. Following the success of a ceremonial start in Barcelona last season, the rally gets underway from outside the cathedral at 18:00 on Friday October 25, a day later than last season

Volkswagen boss Jost Capito says his team never lost faith in Jari-Matti Latvala as he struggled prior to last weekend’s Acropolis Rally win. Latvala was left trailing as his team-mate Sebastien Ogier blasted to three early-season victories and a large points lead.
Citroen’s protest against VW rejected

Citroen’s protest against all three Volkswagen Polo R WRCs contesting the Acropolis Rally was quashed by the stewards, ensuring Jari-Matti Latvala remained victorious in Greece. The French team questioned the presence of a second battery in the boot of the Polo R WRCs, but the event stewards decided at close to 1am local time to declare the protest unfounded

Latvala seals first VW win in Greece

Jari-Matti Latvala claimed his first World Rally Championship win since joining Volkswagen as he completed a dominant run to the Acropolis Rally finish. When a fuel feed problem took Latvala’s championship-leading team-mate Sebastien Ogier out of contention on the very first stage, the Finn became VW’s main hope. At first he looked unlikely to step up to the challenge, running third behind Dani Sordo’s Citroen and the initially dominant Evgeny Novikov’s M-Sport Ford

Novikov grabs shock early lead

Evgeny Novikov emerged as a shock Acropolis Rally leader as Sebastien Ogier, Mikko Hirvonen and Mads Ostberg all hit trouble on the opening stage. The 47-kilometre Kineta-Pissia stage claimed high-profile victims from the outset, including World Rally Championship points leader Ogier. The Frenchman stopped with what Volkswagen would only describe as a ‘mechanical problem’.

Mikko Hirvonen will not be tempted into tweaking the set-up of his Citroen DS3 WRC, despite a lack of pace on the Acropolis Rally qualifying stage . Hirvonen completed the stage in eighth place, 2.770 seconds off Sebastien Ogier’s fastest time.
Ogier fastest in qualifying in Greece

Sebastien Ogier made the best possible start to the Acropolis Rally with a dominant win on the event’s qualifying stage. The Volkswagen driver and series leader will now be the first to select his position to run on the road for the Greek round of the world championship. The start of the stage was delayed due to high crowd numbers, but once up and running, Ogier turned in a faultless display through the 1.86-mile test to win it by 1.1 seconds from Citroen’s Dani Sordo.
VW confident handbrake problem fixed

WRC calendar set to be confirmed

The calendar for next year’s World Rally Championship is expected to be confirmed at next month’s June World Motor Sport Council meeting. The final 2014 schedule of events was not available for discussion at the WRC Commission meeting in Geneva last week, because some of the events have yet to sign the agreement with the WRC promoter. A fax vote will decide the calendar to be put forward for ratification by WMSC at Goodwood on June 28.
Latvala feels ready to win again

Jari-Matti Latvala says he feels more comfortable than ever in his Volkswagen Polo R WRC, and he’s ready to push for his first win with the German team in Greece this week. Latvala has struggled to find the rally-winning form he showed at Ford since his start of the season switch to VW, but recent changes to the car and rising confidence from the Finn have made the difference ahead of this week’s Loutraki-based event.
Hyundai conducts first major WRC test

Hyundai has conducted the first significant test of its i20 WRC, running in 2014 specification in France last week. The car, which is scheduled for a competitive debut in Monte Carlo in January, completed 350 miles of asphalt running in three days. Prior to its French outing, the car had completed an installation test close to the Hyundai Motorsport team base in Alzenau, Germany
R5 Ford Fiesta for Finland debut
