Kubica thrilled with rally form so far

Robert Kubica has admitted he is pleased with the rally-leading speed he has shown early in his new career. The Pole led his third European Rally Championship round in succession in last week’s Tour of Corsica , but he failed to turn that promise into a win when a fuel pump problem struck his Citroen DS3 RRC towards the end of the opening day. “I’ve been pleased with my pace, I’ve won stages and I’ve been able to fight at the top on all three rallies I have done,” said Kubica

The FIA is presenting its plans for the immediate future of the World Rally Championship in Paris this week. Led by its rally director Jarmo Mahonen, the FIA has joined forces with WRC promoters Red Bull Media House and Sportsman Media and British sports consultancy firm Portas to produce a document outlining the way forward for the series. Volkswagen team principal Jost Capito says he will not be pressured by his drivers into delivering upgrades to the Polo R WRC before they are ready. The Polo suffered further rear differential and handbrake issues on last week’s Rally Argentina. A revised specification of handbrake operation – hydraulic instead of pneumatic – was running on Andreas Mikkelsen’s third car, but it will not be included on the points-scoring Polos until it is absolutely ready
Power stage decider mooted for WRC

World Rally Championship officials will meet later this month to discuss plans to change the way events at the highest level are won, including a proposal that the power stage should decide the outright results. WRC manager Michele Mouton stressed that no decisions had been taken and that there were numerous options on the table. The most eye-catching is the possibility of the power stage becoming a position-deciding shoot-out.

Competing on gravel for the first time this year, the seven-time winner of this event admitted it took him some time to find the right feeling again on Wednesday’s shakedown and qualifying stages. “I haven’t competed on gravel since Catalunya,” he said, “and I did only one day of testing, so for sure I didn’t do as much as I might have done.

Volkswagen motorsport chief Jost Capito says he has no intention of ordering Ogier to let his arch-rival go when Loeb returns for one of his World Rally Championship guest appearances this week. Ogier enjoys a 54-point lead at the top of the WRC table ahead of Argentina and the Frenchman himself admits he does not need to be drawn into an unnecessary fight with the defending world champion, who is only competing on four WRC rounds this year.
