BFGoodrich, SCCA Form Super Tour
January 21st, 2011
TOPEKA, Kan. — BFGoodrich Tires and the Sports Car Club of America have come together to form the BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour.
Unlike the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour, in which a traveling operations staff conducts the events separate from the regional and divisional schedules, the SCCA Super Tour will be a cooperative effort between SCCA’s National office and the host regions.
The regions will continue to run all event operations, while the National organization will provide additional marketing, PR, promotional and ceremonial support.
“With the support of our new partner BFGoodrich Tires, we are able to create something that has been missing within the Club Racing program — a defined top-level collection of events not unlike the Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Tour,” said SCCA President and CEO Jeff Dahnert. “We’re now able to provide many of the things found at the Runoffs — victory circle celebrations, live timing and scoring and lap notes, special victory lap celebrations, door prizes, parties and more — at some of the top events across the country.”
As part of the Super Tour, SCCA and BFGoodrich Tires will embark on a number of marketing, promotional and ceremonial initiatives to elevate the stature of the events. The Super Tour will consist of six SafeRacer National Racing Series events in 2011, expanding to nine in 2012 — one in each SCCA regional division.
The first SCCA Super Tour event will be held March 6 at Texas World Speedway in Bryan, Texas. That will be followed by events at Hallett (Okla.) Motor Racing Circuit April 3, Virginia Int’l Raceway in Alton, Va., April 17, Buttonwillow (Calif.) Raceway Park May 1, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, June 12 and High Plains Raceway in Byers, Colo., July 3.
In the doubleheader events at Texas World Speedway, Virginia Int’l Raceway, Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and High Plains Raceway, the second race will be designated as the Super Tour event and Super Sweep qualifier.
BFGoodrich Tires will announce a prize package to top point scorers over the course of the Super Tour at a later date.
