    Jeff Jacobs started autocrossing with the SCCA in 1990 while a student at the University of Florida. He has competed in the SCCA's National Tour and ProSolo series since 1995, winning a ProSolo National Championship in H-Stock in 2011 driving a 2010 MINI Cooper. Jeff completed his SCCA Club Racing drivers' school in 2012 at Roebling Road in a Spec Miata. He currently writes a column for the SCCA's Northeast Division in SportsCar Magazine and is the Region Executive of the Philadelphia Region SCCA.

    Jeff joined iRacing in October 2012. After starting with the MX-5 and SRF cars, he has been concentrating on the Ford Mustang FR500S, competing in the Mustang Cup series and the Continental Endurance Sports Car Series.

    I began taking sim racing seriously about a year ago, but have loved motorsports from a young age. I began following Formula One first, then realized there are a huge variety of motorsports to watch. iRacing has opened my eyes even more to the diversity and volume of “real world” motorsports, let alone on the sim itself. With the huge varieties of series to choose from, you're spoiled for choice!

    Ever since I began iRacing, I wanted to improve on my ability, be it road or oval. Having not really heard about oval racing prior to November last year (blame the UK press), my mentality towards it has totally changed from what it would have initially been - it's awesome! I recently began road racing again - in the Star Mazda - and have been having a blast ever since. On top of racing the series I have the privilege of writing the articles for iRacing News.

    In all honesty I have surprised myself on iRacing. From being a fairly casual gamer/racer, it's been a world of difference, but it has far exceeded my expectations. I had a very brief stint driving in rFactor leagues, but I found my place of sim racing on this service, and I can't see myself stopping anytime soon.

    Justin is 29 and lives in Texas with his girlfriend and three dogs. Although always a fan of road racing growing up, Sutton never got the chance to participate in Sim-Racing until 2012 and didn't join iRacing until 2013. The son of a writer, and former resident of Connecticut and Philadelphia, his interests vary. Currently Sutton is a co-owner of YouTube channel focused on racing games and simulators and more specifically Formula One along with his partner Mikko from Finland (BoxBoxBoxGaming). Currently Sutton writes the Skip Barber F2000 and Lotus 49 articles (and the occasional F1 article) for iRacing News, and doesn't get nearly enough time to race the cars he writes about.

    Gaming is a big part of Sutton's life as well as he is both viewer and broadcaster on Twitch along with his girlfriend of seven years. In addition to being an aspiring writer he is a skilled speaker with a focus on commentary of races and hopes one day to do commentary for road racing of some kind.

    Matt Holden began his involvement in motorsports at an early age, moving to Charlotte, NC when he was 6 months old. Growing up next door to a NASCAR TV personality, racing has always been a major part of his life. Currently studying Mechanical Engineering at UNC Charlotte, Matt works for US Legend Cars International as a technical inspector and race official at local tracks such as Charlotte Motor Speedway and Concord Speedway. Within iRacing, Matt is the Crew Chief for Gale Force Racing's #05 car in the NASCAR Peak Antifreeze Series, as well as Chassis Engineer for the team's R&D program.

    For all intents and purposes, Paul Slavonik was a late-bloomer to racing. Growing up watching NASCAR drivers such as Davey Allison and Earnhardt Sr. was the furthest extent of Paul’s racing aspirations at the time. Fast forwarding 20 years, Paul began watching the UK show Top Gear and thus ensued a fascination with all things fast. Soon after, Paul stumbled upon and has been hooked on racing ever since.
    A United States Army Veteran, Certified Audio Engineer and aspiring author, Paul spends his time hanging out with his wife and working on his first book. Currently residing in Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), TX, his favorite racing series is the Australian V8 Supercars (go FPR!) and he has recently joined a local ChumpCar racing team. Paul began writing news stories for iRacingNews in January of 2014 and currently covers the GT3 Challenge Series and the V8 Supercars Series.

    Born in 1985 in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Thiago Izequiel is a graphic and web designer, go kart racer, aiming to get a career in motorsports. He started racing in 2007 and joined iRacing in 2010. Thiago lives in Maricá, a little town located in Rio de Janeiro state, around 60km far away from Rio de Janeiro city. In 2014 he started to write for iRacing News and also started to design layouts for racing cars.

    Working as a freelancer today, he started working as a designer in 2006. After a few years working in web design agencies, Thiago decided to follow his dreams and quit his job to work with a racing driver named Suzane Carvalho in 2011, on her driver's school. Things didn't worked out as expected and Thiago, after getting jobs as a front-end developer and social media content developer, went back to the dream path as a freelancer so he could have more time to focus on his driving career.

    Jason is 21 years old and was born and raised in Elk Grove. California. A big time NASCAR fan, he hasn’t missed a race on Sunday in years. Lofing is also a huge San Fransisco Giants fan and tries to take in at least a couple games a year. Other than sim racing, his biggest (and far more expensive!) hobby is photography. Although he is rather new to sim racing, Lofing has already accomplished some pretty impressive results, qualifying for the 2011 iRacing Oval Pro Series in Season 1, 2011, winning the inaugural Landon Cassill Qualifying Challenge and finishing runner-up in the second one.

    I was born in New Haven, Connecticut in 1988 and moved to Midland, Michigan when I was two years old. I stayed there until third grade when I moved to Farmington Hills, Michigan and now I currently live in Naperville, IL where I'm attending Metea Valley High School as a 9th grader.     My fascination for motorsports began when I was nine. The first NASCAR race I watched on TV was the 2009 Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway, won by Kasey Kahne. My favorite NASCAR drivers are Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Jimmie Johnson. I have watched all the races in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series since 2010. I currently have three wins on iRacing, two of them in the Nationwide car at Daytona and one in the Street stocks at Charlotte. My favorite car and type of track on iRacing is the Nationwide Series (B Class) car and superspeedways.

SFI Decertifies All Impact Racing Products

Orders Refunds To All Impact Racing Customers

Racers using Impact Racing safety equipment will need to make significant changes within the next month.

The SFI Foundation, Inc., which certifies safety equipment for auto racing and other applications, has issued a “Notice of Decertification,” and an order of Cease and Desist, which terminates all contracts of participation to Impact Racing.

The order goes into effect April 27, 2010. The order pertains to all products manufactured and/or distributed by Impact Racing in relation to SFI Specification Programs 3.2A, 3.3, 16.1 and 16.5.

According to a statement by the SFI Foundation on its Web site, SFI has evidence that over a period of years Impact Racing has engaged in production and use of counterfeit SFI conformance labels and patches and affixed them to Impact products that had not been properly certified by SFI. According to the statement, “Impact Racing never advised its customers that its products contained phony SFI labels and patches.”

As well, SFI has “directed Impact to immediately notify all affected customers to remove the counterfeit labeling and to offer the affected customers a full refund of the purchase price. SFI is requesting that all counterfeit conformance labels removed from Impact products be sent to SFI.”

SFI will terminate all contracts of participation with Impact Racing after 90 days from March 24, 2010. As a result, Impact will not be able to participate in any SFI programs after 90 days.

Impact Racing is owned and operated by former racer Bill Simpson, who built Simpson safety equipment into the sport’s leading safety company until selling it several years ago following the controversy surrounding his lawsuit against NASCAR after Dale Earnhardt’s 2001 death at Daytona Int’l Speedway.

The SFI Foundation, Inc. (SFI) is a non-profit organization established to issue and administer standards for specialty-performance automotive and racing equipment.

Many sanctioning bodies utilize SFI certifications as standards in order to compete in events under that group’s organization. In addition, some racing insurance policies require participants to utilize SFI-certified safety equipment.

Representatives with Impact Racing had no comment when contacted by phone.

    I have an e-mail from SFI saying “All brand new 2009 Impact Racing suits, gloves, and boots are properly constructed and certified.” How can they decertifie just because there is a label that is incorrect. All of us are not pros that can afford buying new stuff just because the label is wrong. Christer Brolin Sweden.

    They are being decertified because of on going serious breaches of the terms of contract they signed with SFI. Do a little more research on SFI’s homepage (scroll down to last year’s news.. it isn’t pretty) and do a Google search for “Impact Hans counterfeit”. I doublt SFI would do something over a simple miss understanding. This has to be serious and SFI is trying to protect their creditability.

    OK Nick. I understand and agree. As things will turn out me and all other racers that have Impact race wear are the ones who will pay the price instead of Impact. Impact will not be able to make refunds to all there customers.

      Is all very nice, too bad they want it to be just american road and oval world chophiansmips, as the time of races is wed nights US time, thats middle of work/school day for aussies, 3am for euros.

    We are not a high budget race team, and we can’t afford as of now to reequip or race team with new suits and harnesses. We have a special designed suit and paid $1,900 for it. It was bought in 2009 and would like to know if it will be ok. It will be hard to get a new one even with refund in time for us to race due to our sponsors embrodering. This is going to hurt many teams and racers in an economy that is hard enough on all of us to race now.

    You should check with your individual race sanctioning body to see what action they decide to take. It may be that their rule is not directly tied to SFI certification, but is worded as meeting certain requirements, such as “two layer Nomex” without reference to a particular certification. It may be that the SFI or FIA rating is simply a ‘shorthand’ method of determining that a suit, for example, meets the standard of the rules.

    I agree it is not the racer and/or the distributors that should pay the price here! If the product is safe they need to find a way to allow it to be used.

    I had a 3-layer race suit made by Impact just before Christmas, mine is FIA certified so I don’t have any worries with it.

    Reading up on it all last night, it looks like Impact had some racewear made in Asia, and it’s this gear that carries the counterfeit SFI labels. The people responsible for setting up that arrangement were fired last year, and where they attempted to recall all of those suits, they did state that only 70% of people responded to the recall, which means that 30% of the suits/product were still out there, and if SFI have picked up on those. According to Impact’s statements last year, there was a problem with about 15% of their gear shipped in 2007/8. So if they shipped 1000 items, that’s 300 items still out there, and if SFI have picked up on those, then it’s unfair because Impact had already issued a recall, just that customers didn’t respond.

    They have said that all 2009 production is correct, even SFI have agreed, so why they are decertifying EVERYTHING is crazy.

    I guess the HANS issue will be something similar. They probably had a buyer that found a supply of them at a discount, and wanting to save the company money, unilaterally decided to buy them in.

    The problem is that Impact didn’t own up to that soon enough, and they are no longer allowed to supply HANS posts. They can fit them, but can’t supply them.

    With all of this bad publicity, I’m not sure if I want to wear my suit now! It’s got Impact’s logo across the front and back of it as I’d done a deal with them on a top-to-toe supply.

    What I can say is that what I have is good quality, I’m pleased with it. One of the comments I read was that Impact’s suits were lighter than others because the material was allegedly thinner, well this one is heavier and thicker than my old AWS 3-layer FIA suit.

    I do hope that there’s a swift and satisfactory resolution to this fight, and that we can all go about our business without the pain of having to buy new suits.

    I believe it deserves Bill Simpson right! Phony SFI lables is no laughing matter and the fact is if all you racers that own Impact stuff are pissed, you should take the time and drive to the headquartes and demand a refund in person because NO RACE GROUP, ASSOCIATION OR SANCTIONING BODY IS GOING TO LET YOU ON THE TRACK WITH ANY IMPACT GEAR….PERIOD!

    Safe or not is not the issue…..he faked some stuff, put lives in jepordy and got busted.

    Nothing would thrill me more than to have Impact go belly up and Bill Simpson have a class action lawsuit on his hands from a few thousand racers.

    What he and his company did was not only illigal but morally wrong. What racer would want to race with his shit anymore anyway?

    Face the facts, everyone with Impact gear wont pass tech and thats that!

    Rob – what’s crazy is your attitude towards this. YOU ARE GOING TO SUPPORT SOME CHEESEDIK THAT PUT YOUR SAFETY AT RISK AND PROFITED FROM IT? That is despicable – I hope Simpson and the whole bullsh*t company go bankrupt! I am disgusted and outraged by all of this…arent you?? look, I’m lucky enough never to have bought any cheesy Impact crap – but hey, I agree..IF YOU WANT TO WEAR THE SH*T by all means go for it, just don’t whine that you cant wear it in a LEGITIMATE race series that values the safety of it’s participants, and makes rules and regulations to insure it. If you are racing on THAT much of a budget that you can’t afford new gear and would prefer to save some $$ – if that is more important than your health – your spine, your skin, etc.. call me – I have some EXCELLENT penny stocks for ya….I also have some excellent opportunities in Florida real estate, Sub prime MBS, the list goes on and on. YOU ARE A IDIOT…..

    I have an Impact Racing 5-Point harness that I purchased and installed in December 2010. Summit tells me these are fine and are not being decertified. Am I going to have a problem at the track with belts or not?

      I LOVE the Pro Mods! The IHRA Pro Mod program was just aemsowe! For whatever reason they don’t do TV this year. That left NHRA in typical NHRA form I think they limited the motor size or did something to tone them down. I could be wrong about that but in the IHRA the Pro Mods were far more radical, regularly overpowering the race track, coming out of the groove, barely keeping it out of the wall or their fellow racer. Maybe not the safest situation but VERY exciting for the fans. Maybe the sanctioned NHRA tracks are in better condition, maybe they’re prepped better. But, they’re far less exciting. Then Personette figures out how to make a turbo car competetive. Instead of making the rest of the field work harder, or go with turbo cars, they reduce his turbo size. Typical NHRA. I have to wonder if Pro Mod racing will continue at NHRA, they only want cookie cutter cars that are easy to tech and leave no room for inovation. But hey, that’s NHRA, been that way for a long time now. The IHRA Pro Mods were also great in that there was a constant battle between the nitrous oxide cars and the supercharged cars. Back and forth IHRA would go, trying to keep up with everyone and have some pairety sp But again, the battles made for a very exciting class of racing. I’d love to see a sucessful Pro Mod class in ADRL. But I’m a little worried. You already have Pro Extreme class, pretty similar. Plus you have the Pro Nitrous class pretty darn close to the Pro Mod’s nitrous oxide cars. I really truely hope to see a Pro Mod class included in the already busy events. I just have to wonder if there’s room for it given the similarities between existing classes. Who knows, maybe Pro Mod will catch on so well and wow the crowd and the sanctioning body. I hope it doesn’t end up bumping out an existing class in the process. I hope there’s room for everyone at the events. I’ll still follow NHRA racing because I do still like quarter mile racing, even though the fuel cars only run 1000ft. I would still follow the IHRA because again I still like quarter mile racing and even though the Pro Mods are, or where anyway, only running an eighth of a mile, I just love the Pro Mods, I like their fuel classes and over there the alcohol funny cars where a pro class. Atchenson and I forget the guys name that was a corn farmer and had ALCOHOL and corn on his body. Then they added the Nitro Funny Car class. That was the last I saw them on TV. AND evidently they’re not going to televise ANY events this season! Damn shame. So, you guys, ADRL is really filling a vacuum and I for one think it’s absolutely kick ass great! I prefer 1/4 mile racing but as long as everyone runs the same distance, I’m ok with 1/8th mile. Hell, I run it myself here in Northwest Dallas at the Lonestar Dragway. Little plug LOL, they deserve it, great people, fabulous launch pad, no real groove to speak of and the best part, my favorite part, the surface hooks like nobodys buisness! They’ve got just about everything the big guys have, other than maybe having a top knotch sanctioning body well for example ADRL maybe. Check it out, have someone go take a look and some pictures. Hey, maybe we’ll end up with a national event20 minutes from my house. Fingers crossed.You guys are really doing something special here. The sport of drag racing at small tracks are more and more going to 1/8 mile only, even on 1/4 mile tracks. Insurance higher speeds higher premiums. You guys are probably in a position the first to do what well eventually become the only game in town. I only recently found I get channel 361 I think it is and now, I’m able to watch ADRL National events! Soo cool! I’m going to start panhandeling at the gas stations to get money for the Ennis race LOL. I will do my absolute best to make it to the show.ADRL is rapidly becoming my favorite sanctioning body. You’ve got the best of everything. The other guys are either boreing or not televised. This is exciting, the fans tend to like that. Love it, keep it up!Wayne
