Mercedes has faith its disappointing Belgian Grand Prix form was a one-off, and sees no reason why it cannot get back to winning ways in the next Formula 1 race in Italy. Lewis Hamilton had headed into the Spa weekend touted as Sebastian Vettel’s main rival for the world championship. But despite taking pole position , Hamilton was powerless to stop Vettel blasting past him on the first lap and pulling away to take a dominant victory

Ross Brawn insists that there is no set timescale for him to hand Mercedes team principal responsibilities over to Paddy Lowe. Lowe started work as executive director (engineering) on June 3 this year after switching from McLaren as Brawn’s long term successor. But Brawn downplayed reports that a firm plan is in place to make a ‘soft handover’ to Lowe in six months.

Ross Brawn’s future at Mercedes remains entirely for him to decide, insists the firm’s motorsport chief Toto Wolff, despite his potential replacement Paddy Lowe beginning work at the team early. Lowe was mooted as Brawn’s successor when news of his move from McLaren broke earlier this year. The British Grand Prix was Lowe’s first with Mercedes and for now he will work alongside Brawn.

Mercedes boss Ross Brawn says his team’s development programme for the rest of the season will be hampered by having to miss Formula 1′s young driver test. Although rival teams have suggested that the punishment handed out to Mercedes for using a 2013 car in a Pirelli tyre test is too lenient , Brawn insists that the young driver test ban will hurt. “We’ve been looking at the consequences of us missing the young driver test, because we had a pretty comprehensive technical programme planned,” Brawn said in an exclusive interview with AUTOSPORT.

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn admitted it was ‘inevitable’ that his squad would have gained some knowledge from its Pirelli test, but insists such information would not have been a competitive advantage. During cross-examination at the FIA’s International Tribunal hearing in Paris on Thursday, Brawn said that there was no way his outfit could have benefited from the testing data. “I don’t see how,” he said

Mercedes boss Ross Brawn admits his team needs a ‘pretty substantial’ car redesign for next year, but insists his outfit will not go radical just for the sake of it. After a season that has failed to live up to early expectations , Brawn is aware of the step that Mercedes must make in 2013 if it is to do better than the pole position and race win it has delivered so far this campaign. Mercedes-Benz’s new drivers Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg rolled out the F-1 team’s new paint scheme at an official presentation at the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart Monday. The new car, called the MGP W01, the first Mercedes F-1 car since 1955, is still being built.
