Renault Clio Cup frontrunner Mike Bushell will make his British Touring Car Championship debut at Knockhill this weekend for IP Tech Race Engineering. Bushell tested the team’s lone NGTC Chevrolet Cruze at Snetterton this week and is not in Clio action at Knockhill as the series does not take its usual BTCC support slot in Scotland. Team owner Andy Neate, who gave the car its series debut at the Norfolk circuit earlier this month, has stood back from driving duties for Knockhill to allow Bushell to race

Marcos Ambrose strengthened his bid for a third straight victory at Watkins Glen by claiming the third NASCAR Sprint Cup pole position of his career. He lapped the 3.4-mile circuit in 1m08.777s in his Richard Petty Motorsports Ford to deny Waltrip Toyota driver Clint Bowyer a first pole since 2007. Ambrose, whose only wins in the series have come at Watkins Glen, was one of a number of drivers to beat the previous qualifying record.

British Touring Car frontrunner Tom Onslow-Cole hopes to be able to expand his career into GT racing as he prepares to race a GT3 car for the first time. Onslow-Cole, who currently lies ninth in the BTCC standings with his Team Hard VW Passat, will race an Aston Martin Vantage V12 with Paul White and marque MD John Gaw in the British Endurance Championship at Brands Hatch on July 27-28. The 26-year-old tested a similar car earlier in the year and recently raced a GT4 Vantage at the Aston Martin Centenary meeting.

Russian teenager Sergey Sirotkin is set to race in Formula 1 with Sauber as early as 2014 as part of the team’s new investment deal. Sauber announced on Monday morning that it had secured a major new partnership with Russian firms the Investment Corporation International Fund, the State Fund of Development of Northwest Russian Federation and the International Institute of Aviation Technologies. As part of the deal, 17-year-old Formula Renault 3.5 racer Sirotkin will be placed onto a development programme that it is hoped will lead to him racing in F1 in the future – potentially as early as next year.

Nico Rosberg believes Pirelli’s introduction of new tyres will have a marked impact on the balance of this year’s Formula 1 world championship fight. Pirelli will deliver new Kevlar-belted tyres for this weekend’s German Grand Prix, before introducing all-new compounds from Hungary onwards , as it bids to avoid a repeat of the Silverstone tyre failures. Rosberg says those tweaks could change the complexion and momentum of a title race in which Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull have so far held the ascendancy.
