Sauber is hoping to finalise a fresh Formula 1 engine contract with Ferrari before next week’s Italian Grand Prix. Discussions between the two parties have been ongoing for several months, but completing a deal was dependent on Sauber shoring up its financial situation

The FIA has begun a detailed investigation in to Formula 1 pitstop technology used by teams in a bid to work out whether further safety steps need to be made. Following a cameraman getting hit by a loose wheel from Mark Webber’s Red Bull at the German Grand Prix, there has been a renewed focus on potential dangers in the pitlane. McLaren sporting director Sam Michael has revealed that part of the process being undertaken by F1 now is that motor racing’s governing body has increased its scrutiny on what teams are up to.

Felix Rosenqvist claimed a second Masters of Formula 3 victory of his career with a dominant display at Zandvoort. The Swede converted pole position into the lead of the race aboard his Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes and had little trouble pulling away from the pack led by Prema driver Alex Lynn. Rosenqvist, who won the race in 2011, was more than two seconds ahead in the space of four laps and was more than four seconds clear of Lynn when he lost over a second and a half on the 16th lap.

HRT Formula 1 refugee Narain Karthikeyan is set to continue his career in single-seater racing after securing a late deal to contest the Auto GP series opener with Austrian team Zele Racing. AUTOSPORT understands the former Jordan and HRT grand prix driver could expand his deal and race in the full eight rounds of this year’s series.

INDIANAPOLIS — Double-wide restarts will begin with the Indianapolis 500 on May 29 – the first oval race of the season. The race director will instruct drivers to line up according to running order on the final caution lap, with the race leader taking the inside position of row one.
