Brian Vickers says a full-time 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup seat with Michael Waltrip Racing is not a done deal despite his New Hampshire Motor Speedway victory. Vickers ended a four-year victory drought when he took his first win with MWR at the Loudon oval on Sunday. The 29-year-old is sharing MWR’s #55 Toyota with Mark Martin and Michael Waltrip this year, but has been tipped to join Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr as a full-time Waltrip driver next year

McLaren junior driver Stoffel Vandoorne believes this year’s Formula Renault 3.5 championship fight will be decided by how many errors the leading contenders make for the rest of the year. Championship leader Vandoorne, who on Thursday was announced as part of Jenson Button’s management stable (which includes Paul di Resta), currently leads his McLaren stablemate Kevin Magnussen by three points. Red Bull junior Antonio Felix da Costa, who was pre-season favourite after an explosive part-season in FR3.5 with Arden Caterham in 2012, sits 47 points back, but Vandoorne believes he can still be a factor in the title race.

Daniel Ricciardo says a spell of being beaten by Toro Rosso team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne was a bigger factor in his turnaround than the 2014 Red Bull chance. Ricciardo and Vergne are vying with Kimi Raikkonen for the Red Bull seat alongside Sebastian Vettel that Mark Webber will vacate after this year. Pirelli hopes that the controversy surrounding the Mercedes secret test will make Formula 1 realise its tyre supplier needs more help. Ahead of an FIA International Tribunal hearing to which both Pirelli and Mercedes have been summoned because of the three-day Barcelona run, there has been an increased focus on the fact that the tyre company has so little testing access. Paul Hembery, its motorsport director, says that it is vital the situation changes if Pirelli remains in F1 – and he hopes that the fallout from the Mercedes test situation will make people more open to assistance

Formula 3 Euro Series and European F3 champion Daniel Juncadella completed his Formula 1 test with Ferrari at the Vallelunga circuit on Friday. The Spaniard earned the outing after winning the FIA’s new European F3 crown this year. Juncadella drove Ferrari’s 2009 single seater, the F60, and completed six runs of eight laps each at the dry, but foggy Italian circuit.
