Jimmie Johnson kept his nose clean in a fractious race to claim his eighth NASCAR Sprint Cup win at Martinsville. Johnson and his Hendrick Motorsport team-mates Jeff Gordon and Kasey Kahne spent the whole race battling with the Joe Gibbs cars of Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth, but in the end it was Johnson who took the chequer for the 62nd time in his career. Clint Bowyer brought his battle-scarred Toyota home second after a strong finish, just ahead of Gordon.

Lewis Williamson set the pace on the final day of GP3 Series at Estoril on Friday. Driving for Bamboo Engineering, which only announced its series entry this week, the 23-year-old Briton went fastest in a time of 1m27.675s, almost a second slower than Carlos Sainz Jr’s mark from the opening day. A short spell of rain during the afternoon looked set to leave Toyota Racing Series Nick Cassidy, testing for Manor, as the pacesetter.

Kimi Raikkonen – 14th/11th: “It’s a nice circuit to drive; the sectors are quite different so there’s a good challenge there. Of course, like with any new track there was no grip at the start of the day which doesn’t give you a very good feeling, but as the grip improves it will be more fun to drive for sure. This morning was very slippery, this afternoon less so but you still can’t really push and it’s a bit tricky to find the limit.
