Hyundai team principal Michel Nandan insists the i20 WRC remains on target as it moves into its final six months of development before it’s January debut on the Monte Carlo Rally. The German-based team ramped up its test programme last month, with two significant gravel tests in the south of France. All three drivers – Chris Atkinson, Juho Hanninen and Bryan Bouffier – were testing the i20 at both rough and smooth dirt venues in Chateau Lastours and Mazamet.

Citroen dropped its firmest hint yet that Yvan Muller is in line for a 2014 World Touring Car Championship drive after releasing a promotional video showing him testing the new C-Elysee. The French firm is yet to announce who will partner nine-time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb when it moves into the WTCC next year.

Rally Finland stewards have decided Evgeny Novikov did block Kris Meeke on the Palsankyla stage on Friday morning. The British driver has been credited with the time he posted on the second run through the stage – which was 23.7 seconds faster than in the morning, so has had 23.7s deducted from his overall time. The new time does not alter his position in the classificiation, but it does mean he starts the final day just eight seconds behind his team-mate and Citroen team leader Mikko Hirvonen and more than a minute ahead of sixth-placed Jarkko Nikara.

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has no doubts that the new Concorde Agreement will be signed, following the progress made with the FIA in Hungary. The Formula One Group and the FIA announced on Saturday that they had agreed the process by which the document that governs F1 will be implemented.

Former Le Mans 24 Hours winner Timo Bernhard will contest the Spa 24 Hours later this month as part of a concerted pushed by Porsche to win the race for the first time since 2010. Bernhard is one of seven factory drivers to have been placed with what are officially privateer entries for the blue-riband race of the Blancpain Endurance Series on July 27/28. The German will join fellow factory driver Jorg Bergmeister and Toyota World Endurance Championship driver Nicolas Lapierre in a 911 GT3-R entered by the French Almeras team

Kris Meeke could put himself into contention for a 2014 factory Citroen World Rally Championship drive if he impresses on Rally Finland next month. The Northern Irishman will replace Khalid Al-Qassimi in the Abu Dhabi-branded Citroen team on the next round of the championship and he is determined to try to turn what is, for now, a one-off opportunity into something longer-term

Toyota looks certain to field just one of its TS030 HYBRIDs in the remainder of this year’s World Endurance Championship. AUTOSPORT understands that the Toyota Motorsport GmbH team will slim down its WEC assault to the one car it initially planned for the full season in the remaining five rounds, starting at Interlagos in Brazil at the beginning of September.

Sauber boss Monisha Kaltenborn insists the loss of former chief designer Matt Morris is not a major setback to the team. It emerged at Silverstone that Morris had informed Sauber of his intention to move to McLaren, where he will take up the role of engineering director . Morris, who has yet to leave Sauber officially, has been replaced as chief designer by the promoted Eric Gandelin today

FIA president Jean Todt has invited Pirelli to attend next week’s Sporting Working Committee meeting at the Nurburgring to try to help Formula 1 find a long-term solution to its tyre problems. Citroen has confirmed its long-expected entry into next year’s World Touring Car Championship with Sebastien Loeb on the driver line-up. The French manufacturer, which first declared a formal interest in entering the series at last year’s Paris motor show , made the announcement at its motorsport headquarters in Versailles. “Citroen Racing has spent the last few months looking in detail at the opportunity of going ahead with this programme,” said Citroen CEO Frederic Banzet.

Matton confirmed a decision will be taken on the company’s 2014 plans before the end of the month. “The decision on the World Touring Car Championship is coming shortly, but I cannot say Monday because if I say Monday then you will call me and ask,” Matton said.

Kris Meeke will drive Peugeot’s 208 T16 on its first meaningful outing in Ypres later this month. The French firm has just completed a five-day test, with Craig Breen and Paolo Andreuccil driving the car. Breen is competing on the next round of the European Rally Championship, ruling him out of the non-competitive drive – the 208 T16 will run as a ‘VIP’ car between two course cars ahead of the main field.
