Nissan could go for an electric Land Speed Record with its ZEOD RC experimental Le Mans 24 Hours racer after next year’s endurance classic. The Japanese manufacturer has admitted that it is eyeing the new electric LSR set by Lord Paul Drayson in June for vehicles weighing under 1000kg. ZEOD designer Ben Bowlby, whose title at Nissan is director of motorsport innovation, believes that the car will be capable in electric form of beating the 204.2mph average set by Drayson in his Lola B12/69 EV at RAF Elvington in Yorkshire

Pastor Maldonado’s car suffered a KERS failure in the garage two-and-a-half hours before the start of Saturday morning practice for the German Grand Prix. The Williams Formula 1 team has confirmed that fire marshals attended the scene and contained the situation, which did not cause any injuries. It is as yet unclear what damage the KERS problem has done to the car, with Williams currently investigating the incident

Daniel Ricciardo does not believe qualifying sixth for the British Grand Prix will make a significant difference to his chances of landing a Red Bull seat. The Australian is on Red Bull’s shortlist to replace Porsche-bound Mark Webber, along with Scuderia Toro Rosso team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne and Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen. While he is sure that his qualifying performance will have been noticed, he insists that a strong race result will be more important to his hopes of succeeding Webber

Nissan will unveil a mock-up of its Garage 56 experimental racer for the 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours next week. The Japanese manufacturer will reveal details of the Garage 56 project, which was announced in February , on Friday ahead of this year’s 24 Hours.

Paul di Resta has blamed Force India’s decision to change a gearbox setting during Q1 for his disastrous qualifying performance in the Canadian Grand Prix. The problem was detected during his first run in Q1, leading to him being held in the garage before he returned to the track on new intermediate rubber.
