Kimi Raikkonen is not the key to the driver market, reckons Nico Hulkenberg, who believes he can secure his Formula 1 future without waiting to see where the 2007 world champion ends up. While Raikkonen is at the centre of 2014 driver move speculation – even if, as AUTOSPORT revealed on Wednesday, staying put at Lotus is his favoured option – the highly-rated Hulkenberg is one of the hottest properties available. Currently at Sauber, Hulkenberg has been linked to both Ferrari and Lotus and has not ruled out staying with his current team

Nico Hulkenberg says he is using his tough 2013 Formula 1 season with Sauber as a chance to prove his character, rather than bemoaning his team choice. When Hulkenberg left Force India for Sauber at the end of last year, the Swiss team had just scored four podium finishes over the season and challenged for several race wins, while Force India’s limit was fourth places.

Nico Hulkenberg will line up alongside Robin Frijns and Kimiya Sato for Sauber in Formula 1′s Silverstone young driver test next week. With race drivers allowed to participate in order to work on Pirelli’s new tyres, Sauber has elected to run the German in the afternoon of the second day. He will take over from reigning Formula Renault 3.5 champion and Sauber reserve driver Frijns, who will be charged with driving duties for the first day and a half

Nico Hulkenberg believes Force India has the potential to beat race-winners Williams in constructors’ championship this year – and has not ruled out overhauling Sauber either. Although Force India had a slow start to the season, the team has made good progress with its VJM05 car since then – with both Hulkenberg and team-mate Paul di Resta showing strong potential at numerous races. Force India is only seven points behind Williams in the team standings and Hulkenberg thinks that further development progress can help lift it past its Grove-based rivals

ABU DHABI — Team Williams has dumped Nico Hulkenberg despite the promising talent he displayed in his rookie season. Rubens Barrichello has been retained and will compete in a record 19th season in F-1. In recent years the sport has seen wonder kids like Kimi Raikkonen, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel soar to stardom and championships.
